  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What the heck!!

Picking up the Genesis from a friends body shop today. I had hit a disc brake that was in the middle of the freeway with the front left tire. Part of the repair was a full wheel alignment which my insurance paid for. After hitting the disc brake the car still seemed to drive just fine. I actually was going to tell him to skip the alignment. Then he sent me this....

The rear was way out of spec. I have no idea why either, the rear tires did not hit anything. If anything I could see the front left being a little out of whack. Anyone else experience this on their Genesis?

I'm glad it was fixed because I just put new tires on a few months ago and don't want unusual wear patterns.

Before and after pics...

whoah! That is really bad. That is naked eye bad. How in the word did that happen??

I have NO idea. I do drive aggressive through the canyons sometimes but nothing super crazy. I don't kick the rear end out, do donuts or tons of burnouts and I've never taken it over a jump ala dukes of hazard. I'm just baffled how it could be that badly out of spec.

Maybe a pothole or something? I really don't know.

:(:(:(

Yes... My 2012 was way off.. Front and rear.. Back then others experienced same thing. When I say way off, couple of wheels were "in spec" range according to Hyundai specs. But any top allignment shop that knows cars and this type of suspension, will argue the wide range in that spec.. Way beyond typical norms. Anyway, the rear was out too. Car drove a bit better.. Eliminated slight pull. However, it would coast longer. No more tire scrub. Enough that could be seen in coasting. I will find the paper and shoot an image too. These guys align restomods, and high end cars. Sharp folks.

I suggest the rigid collars. More I read about them in here, convinced they help. Which if put on will call for one more alignment.

Good to know I'm not the only one. I'll be interested to compare your results to mine. The tire place my buddy sent the car to is very highly rated and uses good equipment. Probably does a better job than the dealership if the Hyundai spec is so loose.

Yea, get that. Oh, I corrected couple iPad typos in my comment. If you notice, there is a very wide range of camber, toe, and caster that is accepted as "norm". Way too broad. As an example, the toe can be "in spec" on one wheel with large (to me) toe angle, and close to ideal on the other, and still be in spec. Yet the car will not want to drive straight on one wheel. Also the camber is very wide. They allow close to 2 degree negative..unloaded in the rear.. When loaded the wheels will splay way beyond that as the geometry of this suspension design settles with added weight. I need to take one of mine to a autocross and get good close up pictures as it goes through cone turns... Will be loaded heavy with side loads.. If the bushings are soft, maybe the wheel tends to roll over positive camber under side load.. That is why they have 1 to 2 degree negative camber as good at rest (front and rear)? If the bushings and suspension design is not the wide camber angle change (during suspension travel up and down) lazy European design, I am wondering why such a large range of camber supported at rest.. The caster should be positive. And it is called for.

There is another post about Addco coming up with solid bushings to replace the rubber ones (nylon, PLC, Teflon, or some other plastic design that has some high frequency absorption for smoother ride than metal, yet stiffer than rubber). That would be real good especially if the suspension deflects from its spec under cornering load (or more up/down G force while driving aggressive on hills and whoop-t-do roller coaster hills. The car should be aligned again to tighten up the max out of ideal spec. And likely reduce the negative camber.

Problem is, I have not seen anyone who really knows the suspension attributes of this car in the forum... Deep at a top flight racing level engineering. I have some experience with this. Not like what is needed.

Also, Hyundai is said to monitor this forum. Yet, they are silent about the various posts on this issue, the air flapper in the filter issue, and other things. They could shed light on why they do what they do.. They are quiet,or have their reasons.. Would be nice to know. Would, be nice to know why so many sedans come from factory with reported allignment all messed up. So far... Crickets.

Interesting. You'd think Hyundai would be more on top of stuff like this.
