  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Took my 2010 4.6 in today for an oil change.

Returned to pick it up and got told that I have a small leak from the rear main seal.

Cost given was $400+ to repair as it requires taking out the tranny.

1.) Do any of these "rear main seal" sealer solutions that you mix in with oil work?

2.) How quickly do I need to get it fixed? (if need be)... I go back to school after Easter and do not know when I would be able to find time to go without a car due to class, baseball, work, etc.

Thanks for any advice:)

Are the original owner? If not, was it CPO (certified pre-owned)? Either of these would involve the 10 year - 100K mile drivetrain warranty.

I would get a second opinion if not under warranty.

If the seal needs to be replaced then get it replaced. 400.00 is very reasonable and two good tires cost that much. I agree with Mark 888 above regarding warranty.

Define "small" leak. If you don't have time to get it fixed now and the leak can be managed by adding oil every week or so then the only downside is parking it where it won't drip on something important.

Personally, I'd stay away from aftermarket products in the oil.
