  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rear-View Camera Quality

...and in your rush to be a smart _ss, you highlight a valid issue with these cameras systems that some auto manufacturers recognize is a real world issue and create innovative solutions to address... Hmmm... so automakers realize this is beneficial technology with shortcomings that need to be fixed versus just making fun of consumers who appreciate the technology... Lol

Naw, I don't rush, I take my time and relish the process. :-p

Interesting links, though...

I think some people love to see how many posts they can make....It might be a new OLYMPIC sport :=)

First: It's not the destination, it's all about the journey!

Second: Might also boil down to a lack of discipline, self-control and willpower as some people obviously can't help themselves but click on this crucial thread for their daily dose of serenity and enlightenment!!

no, but what i do find annoying is that my damn radio defaults to sxm and doesnt remember my last selection which is always bluetooth. And because it takes like 5 seconds for it to connect after the car is turned on it always goes back to sxm thinking there is no bluetooth which is retarded.

Yeah, that is another annoyance for me. Not what you described, though that isfrustrating too, but that the system doesn't remember your shuffle setting. It resets every time you turn the car off. The devil is in the details...

Resolution seems adequate to me. It also seems brighter than in my 2012. This morning it showed an inch of water along the bottom of the screen, maybe because it rains heavy here at times.

I would be happy if I could make the climate screen a default.

I don't need:

1. A nanny screen

2. A back up camera

3. My cell phones stay in a shoebox

4. Lastly, I've lived in the same area for 50 years - I certainly don't need any AV/NAV stuff.

I have had a 2009 Genesis, 2011 Equus, and am now driving 2015 Manhattan Brown Genesis. The rearview camera clarity does not compare to my wifes 2011 Maxima rear view camera for clarity and definition.

You noticed, huh? Well, it's important to some people and not others - that's where this discussion went...

And did you also notice that your 2009 had a more clear camera, as well? Just curious as to your take on that, as I drive a 2009.

It may be that what some people are complaining about is the slow frame rate--I find the resolution or "clarity" is sufficient for the task. With a slow frame rate, some fast moving objects, usually coinciding with the rear cross traffic audio warning, appear to "jump" across the screen. A small animal, pet, or child could be completely missed.
The only safety it provides the driver in an absolute sense is avoiding backing over stationary objects directly behind the car. Despite this I managed to bang into my trash bin.

To add one more comment to a rather long thread:

When I start my car - the "nanny screen" dominates.

Sometimes I back out of my driveway - guess what? I see a nanny screen

And then, when I'm driving down the road a ways, I still see a nanny screen.

So, I really can't complain about camera quality. I rarely see that sucker!

I always found it puzzling that the nanny screen inhibits the backup camera. In my other vehicles this is not the case.

As far as camera clarity and framerate- yeah it is probably inferior to my other vehicles. That said, I couldn't care less about this.

Did your parking sensor alert you before hitting the trash bin? As for the rear camera - it's actually the resolution people are talking about in this discussion. At least most of it. The resolution/clarity is DEFINITELY sufficient for the task. Then again, so is a lever to manually roll up/down windows...

Yeah, that's something that needs to be fixed. The rear camera should display over anything else when it's needed. And most people are perfectly fine with the rear camera resolution. I gather most people who haven't already had a high resolution rear camera would never even think about it...

My back-up camera always overrides the nanny screen when I put the car in reverse. Sometimes the nanny screen reappears after I put it back in drive - but it never prevents the back up camera from displaying.

I would imagine swapping out the rear camera with an HD would be a rather simple process. I'm surprised by the amount of dialogue this thread has generated, that somebody hasn't already done it?

I'm personally blown away by this discussion, but everybody has things more important to them than others and I can respect that.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you don't squeak... No grease for you!

I think the camera on my 2015 Gennie is better in daylight than my 2013 I find it lacking in the dark and in rain, however. The camera seems 'hazy' at night.

I think the camera quality is horrible. Kind of like mistakenly tuning into a non-HD channel on your TV when you're used to HD. The quality was better on every car I've owned since 2006.

Camera quality is fine on my car...The only problem at night time is the tail light red color tend to overpower the camera when braking. also in winter driving the lens gets covered with road slush ....got to keep cleaning the lens if you want a good picture :=)
As a habit I clean the lens daily.....

Just picked up my 2016 3.8L yesterday, I noticed that the rearview cam in my Veloster Turbo was better than this. At night it's so dark too..
Anyway to make it better?
