If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rear-View Camera Quality

my goodness...i dont think you guys get it...no one is saying that the backup camera is not adequate...but I didnt really buy this car because it was just adequate.

the camera works as it should, but for literally couple $10 bills they could have had a much higher resolution camera...hell they might have been able to upgrade for free lol because ive bought webcam a couple years ago for under $20 that looked much better than this on a screen that was 3 times larger.

it seriously would have cost hyundai nothing to upgrade a camera, but maybe they just had like 200k of these crap cameras laying around and instead of throwing them away they put them on this car instead lol.

but again i am not arguing the fact that this camera does exactly what it is suppose to do...just saying that it could have been a little better with resolution and the slight lag.

Exactly. They talked up the fact that the 9.2" screen was HD and then included nothing that actually utilizes that resolution. It's not a real problem but definitely an opportunity to improve.

I couldn't agree more from what you said.

I have always thought that the backup camera was in fact pretty good….. but that really doesn’t mean much given that my previous car was a 1999 Mercury Cougar!! :D

A few months back, a friend let me test drive his 2015 (or 2016) Cadillac ATS and I was quite impressed, not by the picture quality of the rear view camera, but by the fact that the two side guide lines actually bend/curve based on steering input rather than staying straight out. I thought that was way cool and quite classy/upscale. I wanted that, and I still do.

Anyway, I have never paid too much attention to the image quality (I simply think the camera does its job, no more no less), but I fully agree that if it can be improved for a few bucks more then Hyundai should do so. (While they are at it, they should also throw a few bucks at a new jack – this thing is absolutely dreadful to use, unless you enjoy rubbing your knuckles on the asphalt at every turn and for the rod to disengage at every few turns. I once owned a 1972 Renault 12 – a car that is put together backwards, believe me - and I’m pretty certain the jack was a lot more user friendly.)

In the same vein, my vehicle is in fact a 3.8 AWD with the Technology package and I found it extremely annoying that Hyundai Canada decided not to deck it all out. I would have gladly paid more for the 17 speakers, the power operated rear window sunshade and the 9.2” screen. To get these, though, I would have had to pay Cad $9,000 more and move one up to the 5.0 AWD Ultimate, something that I couldn’t rationalize doing given that we seem to always be stuck in traffic on HWY 400 or 401 (Toronto). A case of missed opportunity for Hyundai Canada, if you ask me.

In the US, the guidelines on the G2 do curve with steering input - at least on the 9.2" system that I have.

3.8L also curves :) (all models)

My 2015 guidelines "turn" to assist parking. The lines are straight, but they point in the direction the rear of the car will travel.
EDIT - Actually they do curve a bit if you turn the wheels almost to the limit in either direction..

According to the 2015 specs "guidelines" were added to signature and above.
I had a loaner a few weeks ago that was a base model. IIRC, there were lines, but they did not turn as the steering wheel turned. The base model also did not have the tops down view option. EDIT one other change- base models seem to have slightly narrower lines, and the rear most section is Green. My lines are only yellow and red.

The poster above has an ultimate that was jealous about not having "curved lines".
Is it possible that his lines move, but are not curved? I have seen some cars where the lines actually form a curve, but I have not seen that on a Genesis (see edit above... a bit of curve near the limits.)

To hopefully clarify, the 2 side guide lines will angle out but they will both remain straight regardless of the angle achieved (as opposed to the 2015/16 ATS where they will curve or bend - ever so gracefully - towards the chosen destination). This is on my 8" inch screen (build date was July 21, 2014).

To further clarify, the Canadian 3.8 comes in 3 flavours: Premium, Luxury or Technology and they are all AWD - I have in fact the Tech package (unfortunately, in Canada you have to move to the 5.0 AWD, which is called the Ultimate, to have the 9.2" screen). I'm quite surprised that the comparably equipped US cars would behave differently [ref. xsolara: "3.8L also curves :) (all models)]".

Curving backup lines make no difference. Just stay in the green and yellow zones and you won't hit anything.

There we go! Somebody else who gets it.

On another note, as I haven't driven one in a bit now - Do the guidelines really not turn with the steering wheel, on the G2 Genesis in Canada? I can't recall. They certainly don't on my G1, and I know for certain that the do on the US spec cars.

Totally agree - it's just that the curving backup lines, to me, look more natural, hence more upscale. Simply a matter of personal preference.:)

As I mentioned earlier today: "To hopefully clarify, the 2 side guide lines will angle out (pivot based on steering input) but they will both remain straight regardless of the angle achieved (as opposed to the 2015/16 ATS where they will curve or bend - ever so gracefully - towards the chosen destination)."

I find they do a better job of showing you the projected path of where the car is headed - especially in tight/crowded spaces - so I find they guide you a little more precisely. Had non-curving on my wife's last company car and the curving guides are more natural/intuitive to follow.

Is this on a Canadian vehicle, or US?

Not having really tested the curving lines system, I was primarily commenting on the aesthetics of it.

I find it interesting that from a practical standpoint, though, you find it not only more natural but also more intuitive and a little more precise, especially in tight corners. Thanks for your feedback.

To recap, I should therefore be looking for a high definition picture with curving lines at the time of my next purchase!!:D

It's subtle but, for me, the curving lines provide a better sense of the actual path the car will be moving in - great when backing into a parking spot from the perpendicular direction.

Yes - you want high definition with curving lines - don't forget a high refresh rate too. ;)
