  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recommending the best synthetic oil

WOW! New member, and I have read this entire thread (including links) with interest. Gets a little contentious occasionally, but as long as it doesn't get out of hand and remains at least PG rated, I appreciate the passion. I am very grateful for all the research, and the depth of knowledge and commitment to sharing accurate information when you are presenting your opinions. Not really looking to resurrect this thread, but I do have a question/problem that I think is oil related.

My 2014 3.8 GDI has Constant Variable Valve Timing (CVVT), I think all Genesis engines do. It is operated by oil system pressure acting on cam actuators. When first starting car in the morning, it idles/runs rough for 30 - 60 seconds then smooths out. Won't do it again until it sits for several hours. Does anyone else experience this? Is it normal? Will the oil you use make a difference? Car is still under warranty, but dealer says they cannot duplicate...may try again when colder.

Thanks for input.
Update please. I have a 5.0 that does the same. It’s almost like a slight misfire but no check engine light no codes and other than that runs fine

Have you tried cleaning the throttle body and throttle plate?

I use Costco Kirkland Synthetic. It works great.
