  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

While driving today, suddenly a caution light lit up on the lower part of the dash, for about 3-5 seconds. I was not going fast and the road was wet after a rain, and this red alert lit up. Does anyone happen to know what caused this to happen and what it was for ?

Check section 4 of your owner's manual. The dash warning lights and locations are in that section.

Just re-read the whole Section 4 again, and still cannot find anything with reference to the caution light that came on. Only possible explanation could be it was something to due to the wet pavement and was just alerting me to be cautious, cannot think of anything else.

That light is orange, isn't it? Probably the ESC warning.

Not sure, it could have been, as it was not on that long, or I just happened to notice it at the end. As I stated the roads were wet and it could have been alerting me to that fact, maybe a little slippage. Will see if it happens again when the road is wet.

Was it in the center screen that displays MPG, cruise control info, etc? If so, I've experienced this as well. I can't seem to pin point it down to what actually causes it and it's super intermittent. Doesn't seem to affect operation of the car from what I can see, so I haven't bothered to bring it in to the dealer. I suspect it is something to do with the radar of the cruise control.

Right under the middle screen that has miles to, eco, mpg., etc

yes i have experienced the same for 2 times, in both the cases one common thing was car was on auto cruse and just cancelled it and the my car went very close to the front car, may be radar related.

I've had this happen with auto cruise on also. It was a scary warning even though I had it covered ;)

I'm not sure if this is related, but driving one day, a car in front of me slowed to turn into a parking lot. I estimated I had plenty of space so I did not brake behind him. As I crept up on the car a warning logo (red with a triangle, exclamation mark, and a car) popped up on my multi-function display between my gauges for maybe 2 seconds. It startled me until I was able to recreate the circumstances and saw it again. Is this possibly what you saw?

It sounds like what the OP is describing...is surely what I have seen in my car. The thing is that when the caution comes on in my car, there isn't anything in front of my car. Just seems to come and go as it pleases.

No, what I saw was a red or orange "caution" notice.

If it was it in the lower center of your instrument panel and red, you probably bumped your parking brake pedal.

The red "(!) (P) BRAKE" light on my Genny will illuminate after only 1/8th inch of pedal travel, so you may have accidentally nudged the pedal on your car, or perhaps it's out of rig.

Did you used to drive a manual and have a habit of leaving your foot resting lightly on the clutch pedal? If so, it could have been an old habit coming back.

If the light was orange, it was probaby the ESC light (which is right next to the BRAKE light). If your wheels slip, it will blink to show that ESC has been engaged. It will stop blinking when the low traction condition no longer exists.

My 2012 doesn't have a parking brake pedal.

It happens in any car..i dunno what it's called but usually when it's a rainy day and lets say you're stopped at a red light...and suddenly step on the gas, because its slippery the transmission will kind of go up and down....i believe it's that?

I beleive it's the same as what DK 337 is describing except you didn't get the display in the center screen.

I had a similar situation as DK337 and the red light on the lower left of the dash came on for just a few sec. It reads caution. Mine also momentarily applied the brakes. It scared me at first until I realized what was happening and why.

Seems our cars may have a undocumented accident avoidance feature. ;)

I've had this happen twice. Both times I was coming up behind a car waiting to turn left and could time that he would be out of my lane before I got there so did not slow up as much as I normally would. It flashes for a second or two then the turning car is gone and the caution light is out.

Just reporting what I saw:
Happened to me twice this month. Never before. Not sure what triggered it, both times, I was driving normally in the freeway. It is not bright red, more like a little faded red. Definitely, the caution warning light was not described in the manual.

Looking for answers, still.

I think what you are referring to is something I have mentioned on another thread
