  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rough Ride (rear)

All I know is there has been enough talk about it to have planted a sufficient amount of doubt in my mind to keep me from plopping down $40K until this matter is resolved one way or another.

Be sure to let the dealer you have been talking to know why you won't purchase a Genesis. The more input they receive about the ride, the more likely something will get done.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I understand - just pointing out nod denial here. The Dealer, however, that's another story.

Can someone tell me is there a way to e-mail an entire thread? My sevice manager and his district rep said they would be interested in all that is being said about the suspension issues here on this web site. Of course first I should ask is this permissable or is it a no no? Thanks!

I would just gather up links to the threads and send it to them. Or you could copy and paste them.

I haven't experienced the rough ride reported here in my 4.6 w/tech package. I am going to ask an odd question.

There have been a number complaints, so lets assume there is a problem. (just for this conversation).

There have been a number of "updates" to the model during the year. I wonder if some updates have included any suspension changes. With that in mind would anyone which has experienced a problem be willing to report the manufacture date of their car?

I am thinking of also trying to get information from the shocks and springs
(model info/ date of manufacture if included).

we could compare to those cars not reporting this problem.
We might know if this is related to "batch" of parts.......

If it were, parts swap might be the answer, and I think it could be easy to sell it as a warranted service if we had data to support it.

If others think this is worth it, I will pull the data from my car as a "good" reference.

John,

This has been covered before, but did you check the tire pressure? This is a MUST. All cars are shipped w/ the tires overinflated and many dealers don't adjust the pressure (even though they should). This made a huge difference in my Genesis. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give the suspension an 8. Before I deflated the tires to their proper (cold) pressure, I'd give it a 6.

What did you settle on for tire pressure? I'm loving everything about the Genesis (4.6, tech), but I do find the ride too harsh, although I haven't experienced the porpoising/undulating affect that others have noticed.

I've tried evrything from 30-33 - most often 33 psi

I think the harsh ride can have many different descriptions depending on what road surface one is driving on and who is trying to describe it. Another description I have heard is "bobble-head," which again would only be present on certain road conditions.

The suspension seems to handle one big defect on the road in a pleasantly firm manor, but when there are a lot of small undulations or defects in the road that are repeated with a certain frequency, the car seems to be a little jittery IMO.

I would concurr with that exactly, although I would go as far as to say VERY jittery to the point of Jarring, if the right bump/frequency combination is encountered.

For me the problem isn't a jittery or uncontrolled ride - my complaint is that you feel too many of the little bumps on less than perfect roads. It's almost jarring. I will lower the tire pressure today to see if that helps in any way and report back this weekend.

These are all accurate in my mind - bobble head, jittery - sometimes extreme - and you will feel every bump. Even though the car is so quiet and well isolated every bump causes an upward pitch or a sway. But then some people love it or have a different experience - go figure. I did notice today if you go really fast the bouncing is lessened.

I don't find that statement to be entirely accurate as far as my 4.6/tech is concerned. Every bump does not cause an upward pitch or sway on my car, it's just a little too harsh - you feel those bumps more than I think you should.

I understand - I wonder if different tires wold help

The Dunlap tires are not exceptional, but they generally rated in the middle of the pack of the high-performance tire reviews. They are not cheap tires.

I ran across this interview with Wendell Collins, Hyundai's suspension engineer for North America. It's not the best interview, but for those of you who have been discussing the suspension issues, you men find it of interest.

I posted an update on my drive with hyundai reps in the support for suspension issues thread

got my 4.6 w/new badge. traded in 03, G35. was looking at the coupe, but had a great deal and went for a sedan. yes, i do concur w/several folks here that ride in the backseat is bumpy. had my kids sit in both old G35 and LS430 b4. are the rear shocks and suspension too loose to cause this??? i hope Hyundai will address this issue soon as I like everthing else so far....pretty impressive mpg also..

V6 3.8
Date of MFG 4/19/09
Has the Premimum Plus package.
Changed the wheels from the 18 inch stock to the 17 inch stock (some improvement)
Tire pressure 32psi ( some help)
Considering change to the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity (hoping)

I have owned many new cars that ae lux riders:
Mercedes 2000 S
Infinity M35
Volkswagen Phaeton

They were al smooth compared to the Rough and Harse riding vehicle.
I am a Automotive engineer lots of experience riding and testing. This thing has an excessive stiff set of springs and Amplitude selective Dampers
both should be change but maybe just the damper will do it.

I am trying to get the new tires next and looking where to find the dampers.
By the way the V8 is worse Period.

Don't meand to sound uppity but I have comcludes an extensive set of driving test and put my money where my mouth is by buying the 17inchers anfter paying an extra grand for the 18 inchers just to get some improvement.

So I am a bit put out by all the trouble, I have an acceleramoter package that i plan on installing on the rear seat and sending the data to Hyundai. My experience is that we don't stand a chance of any free fix at best some ability to buy stuff from parts after the 2010 have been out for 6 months.
