  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

RPM Limit Cut Off

I'm resurecting this old thread with an update. I hit my rev limiter at about 7000 RPM.

It was I guess one of those everything matched up perfect and I wound up hitting the rev limiter before it shifted. Here's what happened.

Was taking off from a red light. I hit about half throttle and teh car took off and shifted into second. I then had floored it and teh car was a bit confused as to which gear to be in, so it downshifted which caused it to het teh rev limiter before it realisd that was a bad choice and so it up shifted once again.

When it hits the limitter, it acts liek any otehr limiter in that it pulss power from teh engine and will not allow teh RPM's to go up anymore. When I realised what was going on, I took a quick glance at the tach and saw the needle around 7000 RPM.

So yes, the car does have a typical rev limiter, it's just hard to get to it under "normal" driving.

Good info. Were you in sport mode when this occurred? When I make an abrupt gas pedal action or under hard driving the transmission or computer does some really slow unexpected things before it figures out what gear to shift.. Basically I think the transmission does not know how to act and is very slow to react? Also, when driving between 90 and 100 and I plaster the gas pedal the transmission reallllllly lags behind. And I talking when I'm on a flat wide open desert road with no load. I guess I just need to learn how to drive this thing? Have you experienced any of these types of behaviors? Thanks

I was in normal driving mode, not in sport mode.

I'm not sure if my car may be a little different or it's learned and adapted to my driving style. But I've noticed that when I start playing around in the car, i.e. more spirited driving, it seems to shift quicker and the throttle is more responsive. But when I drive her in a normal cilivised manner, then she seems to have the long shifts and a bit slower throttle response.

I have had several instances where I've floored it to down shift and accelerate and had the "lag" that everyone talks about. But this is usually after a long section of just cruising in a "normal" driving fashion.

Hyundai has some work to do when it comes to refining the transmission's programming.

And he's proud of that? I'll bet that will change after he gets the bill for replacement!!

I bet he is one of the forums now bitching that Hyundia won't honor their warranty.
