  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Samsung Galaxy S4 bluetooth connectivity

Tmobile S4 (MDL rooted wicked ROM) + 2009 tech = disconnects.

It has to do with how bluetooth power saving modes are implemented the radio code on the phone, so it makes sense that different carrier radio versions may act differently.

I am not able to pair my new Samsung Galaxy S4 with my 2010 Genesis 4.6. I sought help from the Costco rep where I bought the phone, from the local T-Mobile store (my carrier), and from a Hyundai dealership. In each case one of the techs helped my and concluded that the phone and car do not pair. A demo S4 did not pair. However, an IPhone and an S3 paired easily as did the Blackberry Bold that I used before my S4. My S4 does pair easily with my Jabra earphone.
When I have phoned T-Mobile and Samsung to alert them and to look for help, I am not able to get past the lower level tech support to people who can help beyond reading what's on their monitors. They don't seem to be able to or thinking about passing the issue up the line so that we customers can be served.
I hope a patch or upgrade from Samsung and T-Mobile is in the works, but it looks like I will probably have to trade in the phone before my return option. Please let me know if you have a solution for pairing a Samsung Galaxy S4 with a 2010 Genesis 4.6.
Thanks and Blessings!

Waiting for a patch or an update to fix something like the bluetooth issue usually is a terrible idea. Those particular updates may or may not ever come. Most of us have about 14 days to decide whether to keep a phone or not. If you can't get the bluetooth to work within that time frame, return the phone. The S3 is a good phone too.

The S4 is the top selling phone in Korea. What irks me is that a bunch of the guys working at Hyundai headquarters and factory drive home every day in their Genesis and use an S4. You would think they would have some sympathy for those of us with the connection issues. My guess is the S4s work fine with the Korean version of the S4.

I'm lucky. My ATT brand S4 works fine with my G. I'd like to hear from some other ATT S4 owners. Based on my experience, I'm guessing the ATT version of this phone does not have a problem.

I believe I have found a work around of my connectivity issues. I have been able to talk with bluetooth for 15 minutes without issues. I am going to just post the fix that I found on Samsung's developer forum that was taken from another forum. I am curious to see if this helps others.

I tried what was suggested in the following post
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/722149-samsung-galaxy-s4-bluetooth-issue.html#post5885565
And it worked for me straight away.

Here is the quote from the other thread.

- Go to settings;
- Select application manager;
- Scroll down to S Voice; and
- Click on S voice and disable it (note that i also killed the task);

The phone will then use the google app which is for hands free bluetooth.
Works great!
This ended the problem of not hearing anything on your vehicles speakers during hands free calling.
Samsung I noticed that the S Voice application is still a beta. I think it would be a good idea for you to remove it for now by default or at least have it fixed very quickly.

Guess again. I use AT&T and mine disconnects and reconnects just about every time I'm on the phone. Wish I had taken it back in the beginning but I figured Samsung would fix it. I figured wrong.

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having. I've been watching this thread and you are the first that said they had ATT and has the disconnect problem.

Unfortunately I guessed incorrectly and some ATT S4s have the problem.
Unfortunately I guessed correctly about it being a good idea to wait for a fix from Hyundai or Samsung.

I finally gave up, at least temporarily. Due to my purchase of my Galaxy S4 phone from Costco, I have a total of 90 days before my final keep or return decision. I finally decided to purchase another phone, an HTC One, due to the lack of pairing between my 2010 Genesis and my previous Galaxy S4. The HTC One pairs quickly with my Genesis and has not suffered any breaks in conversations, etc. The longer I have the HTC One, the more I like it, even though I had grown attached to the Galaxy S4, expect for its pairing deficiency. If Samsung provides a fix before Nov 7 (my deadline), I might return the HTC One for a Galaxy S4, but the likelihood of Samsung's fix and of my giving up the HTC One is decreasing.

HTC one works and the Samsung Galaxy S4 doesn't...interesting. Not to drone on BUT my S4 has worked without exception with my 2012 3.8 with updated NAV. If the reviews are accurate, the HTC one is a very good phone and you'll probably find yourself happy enough to skip the S4 bandwagon.

Another thing to try is to search through the Play store. One had luck with GS3's with this app, another said it didn't work for GS4... but it's free so it's probably worth a shot:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect&hl=en

This worked for me! I have a 2012 3.8 Premium (touchscreen nav) and a new Verizon Galaxy S4 (Android 4.2.2). Was getting the unable to communicate error message. After installing this app with the default settings, the S4 paired flawlessly. It even asked to download my contacts which also worked flawlessly. Checked voice dialing and music streaming, and they worked too. Made a long call and no drops. Also have been in and out of the car several times, and the S4 is automatically pairing each time. Not sure what this app does, but it sure saved the day for me.

As a side note, I tried to pair the S4 with my wife's 2010 Nissan Murano LE with nav, and it paired the first try with absolutely no problem.

I just got the 4.3 update on my Galaxy S4 and it fixed the Bluetooth cutting off & coming back on in the middle of a call.

Couldn't get S4 to pair and connect with 2010 Genesis Sedan. So I change the passkey code to 0000 and pairing and connection went through without a problem. Hope this helps.

It worked! I was about to bring my new S4 back to Costco when I tried this suggestion. Samsung, Hyundai, my Dealer, MapNSoft and Verizon were clueless and all blamed each other. Any ideas why this fix would work? Hopefully it will continue.

@ eray.......wow u are a genius and a life saver...After months and months of trying to pair sgs4 with my Gen 2011 sedan with no luck, i did what u suggested and changed the passcode to 0000...oh did it work like a charm? I couldn't believe it. Hopefully it stays working. Thanks a Lot!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Could someone explain how they changed the passcode to 0000? The vehicle displays only 1234 to be input from the phone and it does not seem to be changeable. I do not know how to start the pairing process from the phone as it does not seem to see the car.

Make sure you are following directions on about pages 142 to 146 of the DIS manual.

You need to go to Phone Settings --> Advanced Setup which gives you the option to change your passcode. Make sure your engine isn't running or else this feature is disabled. I had the same exact issue with my brand new S4 phone and updating to 0000 definitely fixes the issue without any software updates. It looks like that basically disables the passcode so that it allows the pairing. Huge kudos to eray figuring this out for all of us!! :welcome:

Works like a charm. Successfully paired my 2012 Genesis with my Samsung S4 by changing the passkey to 0000 instead of the factory default of 1234.

I actually was close as I changed the passkey to something different. Then read this last post and said Carumba !!!! Works like a charm, easy peasy.

I am going to respond to Hyundai Canada who gave me their lame response. Maybe they can now inform others havingthe same frustrations and issues.

Hyundai Canada Response.

Thank you for contacting our offices with regards to the pairing of your Samsung Galaxy S4 phone with your vehicle. We apologize for the delay in our response.

Hyundai Auto Canada strives to ensure that our vehicle's Bluetooth systems are compatible with as wide a range of devices as possible. Given the wide variety of hardware and software configurations on the market, however, it is impossible for us to guarantee compatibility with every device.
Bluetooth is a protocol or an instrument that simply downloads information from a wireless device. Not all wireless devices are compatible with Bluetooth technology. One of the most common causes for devices not working together is when two devices do not support the same profile. Unfortunately, support on both ends is a requirement. Usually the answer to this question is to look in the manual where information about supported profiles is documented.

Most phones require that the address book sharing be set on the device after it pairs. Below are basic steps that could apply to your phone. Please note that the steps may vary depending on the different devices.

1. Delete the Bluetooth pairing on the vehicle and the phone to start from scratch.
2. Tell the vehicle to add a phone, and the phone to search for devices.
3. Enter the pass code key and quickly go to your notification area on your phone.
4. A message should pop up asking for permission to load the phonebook.
5. Click the checkmark "always allow" and OK (sometimes ok first then "always allow")

There are no current updates to the Bluetooth system and based on your email, the BlackBerry Z10 phone paired properly; this would confirm that the Bluetooth is functioning as expected.

We strongly recommend that you discuss this matter with your local Hyundai dealership that can inspect your vehicle to determine whether there is a defect in the Bluetooth system or whether the particular phone you have is not compatible with the system. As we are unfortunately not able to diagnose issues over email, we invite you to contact the service department at Peterborough Hyundai to make an appointment for your vehicle.

We wish to assure you that Hyundai Auto Canada is committed to customer satisfaction through quality design, workmanship and customer service.

Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us again.

Does anyone know if we can change the Bluetooth pass code on a 2009 with Nav? I don't see an option in any of the menus. Thanks!

I've got a 2009 4.6 with Nav. I have an at&t Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, which finally got the upgrade to OS 4.3 yesterday. That didn't fix the Bluetooth connectivity problem with my Genesis. After updating the phone I paired with my Genesis again and had no audio through Bluetooth.

If anyone has found a solution for a 2009 Genesis please post. Thanks!

Code 0000 worked for me too !!! THANKS
