  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Our 2022 GV70 with 10,100 miles (purchased in Dec 2021 - now it's Aug 2022) has been at the local dealership's service center for 2 weeks now and they have no idea what is wrong with it.

How it started: Driving on the highway back home from work ALL my guages suddenly went to 0 (zero), the collision detection system started pinging, CEL came on, & i lost both power-steering and power-braking. I could not tell my speed either since my speedometer went to 0 as well. I pulled over and called the emergency support through the in-car s.o.s button. The support member couldn't do much more than tell me she saw the CEL/etc warning lights as well. I managed to drive slowly back home then call support to get it towed to my local dealership (Genesis of South Richmond in Virginia).

Now: 2 weeks have passed and not only is the communication from the service center at the dealership completely non-existent, no one knows what is wrong with the car. The service manager (Josh) stated that there are 3 pages composed of 50 codes that the car is throwing. They ordered and replaced the CAN bus & under-dash fuse box but that did not fix anything. At this point in time they are running 1 or 2 tests a day and sending to Genesis Engineering supposedly all the way back to Korea.
Side Note - I have been forced to RENT on my own with the promise of reimbursement despite NO ETA on a fix on my GV70. The dealership also refused to give me a loaner despite originally stating they will; apparently Genesis themselves told them to tell customers to rent on their own for reimbursement, etc, whatever bs.

Has anyone else experienced an unexplainable issue like this in their Genesis GV70 or other model?

Yikes, that seriously sucks. They definitely should have supplied you with a loaner. I don't believe I've seen another report of this same issue so hopefully it's a one off. Hope you get it resolved soon.

Yeah not sure where Genesis of South Richmond gets off giving me the 180 on the loaner. Take a look at the text message they sent me, ridiculous.

This is terrifying. They should have towed your car on the spot and given you a loaner until the issue resolved. Ridiculous that you had to drive it yourself afterward and had to find your own replacement vehicle.

I suggest you take your communication directly to the top!

Have you had any communication with the owner or managing partner of the dealership?

Additionally… I assume this dealership has a Facebook and Google review page…

As a last ditch effort… I’d write a truthful and informative posting on their social media pages…

Social media is a strong consumer satisfaction tool…

Only the service manager & the Genesis customer support so far. I'll look into seeing how to contact those you mentioned.

The owner and or managing partner have the ability to get your situation back on track!

Stay professional but yet firm during your communication with them…

Additionally… make sure you document all your concerns via email so there’s a paperwork record of your situation…

Thanks for the advice, definitely keeping record of all the texts and will certainly be professional. Nothing is personal here, I just want to have the situation resolved so everyone ends up for the better.

Spoke with the store manager (Joe) today and have emailed him all the info. Hoping to hear back tomorrow & hopefully the dealership takes responsibility regarding at least the loaner. There are certainly great employees there and the service manager Josh was courteous enough to speak in person with me when I showed up yesterday, but it is just the severe lack of communication and misinformation that causes problems for everyone. I really expected better support from Genesis.

UPDATE: Aug 21, 2022 (Sunday)

After getting in contact with the dealership's manager, emailing him everything including text screenshots, etc...the dealership FINALLY offered me a loaner vehicle. I picked it up Friday, the 19th. Regardless, my GV70 is still not fixed and no ETA. I am supposed to hear back sometime next week, will update this posting at that time.
Thanks Willow for the recommendation.

I’m glad you were able to make some progress…

Hope the dealership finds a solution to your GV70 issues..

Any update with regards to diagnosing the electrical problem with your GV70?

….

Maybe it's a similar case, but I've had a few gv80s do something like that. Connections on the back of the instrument cluster not secure. Car does a bunch of funky stuff because it can't send info to the cluster. Just an idea.

Negative as of Saturday, Aug 27th. I'm supposed to get a check in once a week from the escalation team (Genesis Support) but even that I still had to call in; the dude just said he's reaching out to the store to get an update. It is pretty ridiculous at this point. I'm waiting until the coming monday (Aug 29) to hear any kind of progress. And if there isn't any worthy update, since it would have been a month since dropping the car off, I'm going to formally request the buy-back. However long that takes idk but in a couple of days I'll know whether I'm still going to be a Genesis owner or not.

Buyback means they can depreciate your vehicle based on mileage....
If you go after them through your state's Lemon Law (check your state), I don't believe they can.... In California, I had a buyback and was able to the value of my coating, clear mask, tint and other non-invasive accessories with no depreciation for mileage.

If the car is defective, it's a little unethical to try and short you on it's replacement.....

YMMV

Wow, alright i didn't realize that. I'll look into my state's lemon law then before requesting that buy back through Genesis.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Some people have reported that dealers have been direct billed rentals . Of course you lose your CC points but it’s nice to know you don‘t have to worry about payment .

I didn't mind renting for two weeks. But after that i need at least an ETA on my car being fixed to continue. It's wild these imbeciles thought i would rent forever with no idea on when it'll end.

Have they replaced the computer yet? Document exact dates and times it's been out of commission and look up your lemon law in your state you could make them replaced yours with a new one.

What constitutes a lemon car in Virginia?

In general, a lemon car in Virginia is a vehicle which has a defect or condition that has not been repaired by the auto manufacturer after three repeated attempts. Also, a car can be considered a lemon if the problem is a life-threatening defect that was not successfully repaired after the first attempt.
