  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.
Have they replaced the computer yet? Document exact dates and times it's been out of commission and look up your lemon law in your state you could make them replaced yours with a new one.

What constitutes a lemon car in Virginia?

In general, a lemon car in Virginia is a vehicle which has a defect or condition that has not been repaired by the auto manufacturer after three repeated attempts. Also, a car can be considered a lemon if the problem is a life-threatening defect that was not successfully repaired after the first attempt.
Just got an update from them. Finally diagnosed after 4 weeks. Electrical issue (already knew that) and the part has been ordered & set to arrive September 26th. These clowns really think that's an acceptable time frame to fix but whatever; the rep said they'll expedite the shipping and it'll be here to fix sooner than that date.

Regardless, I'm looking into my state's lemon law as well. Although, i think the fastest way for me to get my money back would be to sell or trade in this garbage vehicle as soon as it comes back to me in working condition. I'm seeing the lowest value in KBB (trade in) around $48-53k and that's exactly what i paid out the door.

As great as our 2022 Tucson is & as fun as the GV70 has been until this issue, think I'm going to jump ship to BMW/etc.

Probably sent via the slow boat from Korea. When it gets to Long Beach, they'll put it on FedEx or UPS next day.
While I know prices are very reasonable to sell it, is that really what you want to do? I don't think BMW is any better.

I've been an BMW owner for longer than any other brand (had a 335 in high school - to the new supra and an f82 M4). I'm more than familiar with them.

Changed it up on the daily/mommy-mobile since i saw the $ to features value in Hyundai/Genesis but it seems i drew the short stick. We've still got the Tucson from this year that's been running fine but I'm going to wait another year or so before getting back into a Genesis SUV. Honestly, the lack of communion + customer service issues have ruined the image at this point than the car being in limbo for a month.

I can respect that. Are you going to replace it with an X3? I'm sure you could have one built and delivered within 12 weeks.

Very likely. And after my buddy showed me footage of his performance delivery experience event in South Carolina with the whole track day + X5 off-road challenge... Might even go X5. They all seem pretty capable as the new Jeep counterparts (I'm a Mopar guy too 😅). Plenty of options.

Meanwhile, let's see how soon i can get my GV70 back. I'll post another update on the matter soon.

If you don't need the extra space, the X3 is the better option. It has better driving dynamics. Just make sure to get the Six.

FINAL UPDATE: The GV70 has been finished & returned today, Friday, September 2nd.
I've attached the invoice sheet that Josh the service manager gave me.
Feel free to ask me any questions.

Glad they got it fixed for you! That's very useful information if anybody else has that issue! Thanks.

how does it drive now?

Pretty normal/as expected. Glad to have the vehicle back but I'm definitely getting offers ready to sell it in a month or so once I find a replacement.

Good luck to everyone else.

That's wonderful to hear it's fixed and you got it back. Hope you can get back to enjoying a great experience with the vehicle. Appreciated reading your post and letting us know what was going on but in the nicest way possible hope to not that hear about another follow up to this post. Enjoy once again and thank for everything.

Well, this adventure has talked me out of getting the Genesis. As nice as these cars seem, being able to service them and service the customer doesn't seem to be Hyundai's strong point. I can see this future to other car makers as well, as technology goes at warp speed. Technicians not be caught up on training to properly diagnose and correct problems in a timely manner. Sad my 1st post was one of departure.
Good luck to all of us.

Can't blame you a single bit. I'd say wait maybe a year or so to see if there's more experiences like mine, then get into one of these. When the concierge + support teams work, they work AMAZINGLY. But this was def a concrete experience for me that's affected me purchasing any daily driver from Genesis.

Having a dedicated Service Advisor and a waiting area away from Hyundai customers would be nice. As I told my local dealer, all they had to do was set up an area in the back of the Sales area and use porters to take cars back to the Service bays. As it stands, they don't have enough mechanics let alone enough parts. This whole just in time model isn't working.

Considering this WAS indeed a Genesis only dealership & they managed to epically fail, I highly doubt having their own space or not was the biggest issue. I'd say it's the lack of a proper support system & protocols. I've never seen this kind of thing playout in about 8 years of BMW ownership.

BMW has been around a lot longer than Genesis. Plus, they have a surplus of parts suppliers. Hyundai doesn't have that luxury. They progressed too quickly and have staff under or un-prepared. Depends on how you look at it. Either way, there needs to be some leadership from Corporate and the dealer networks. I don't think they want to be known as the FIAT of Korea.

That has absolutely no relevance. Hyundai's been around long enough to understand how to treat customers... Especially considering their past reputation. They have had more than enough time to create a system with maximum support. Hell, they could've even copied what the Germans are doing for their luxury make. No excuse.

Yes, they need to do better...I just don't know how they grow and build in the middle of such restrictions in availability of all resources. I'm waiting months for parts from GM as well, so not just a Hyundai/Genesis issue, but I do think Genesis was premature in launching these new models, thinking they were ready. The relationship with Hyundai seems a bit tenuous at best...like arguing siblings over a shortage of candy.

Is there any update to this issue? my 2023 just did the exact same thing and its been at the dealer for over a week with no update
