  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Shimmying/Shaking Over 60 MPH

Has anyone looked into draft shaft issues? Sounds like the Palisade and the Telluride (while completely different vehicles) are exhibiting some vibration and shimmying issues related to this and a TSB has been issued. The pool may be too small for them to issue a TSB for the g90. In my case, I can feel the vibration as soon as a let off the brake (not during idle), which makes me think that it is not the bushing or tire issue.
My 2018 5.0 Ultimate was just diagnosed as a faulty drivetrain & transfer case. It's been almost a month and no ETA for the parts.

Ok, back to my dealer inspection for the extended warranty. Another issue they found was pertaining to a TSB about the shimmy. Unfortunately I can't recall the exact verbiage told to me on the phone as I was away from home and in the middle of something when they called. But whatever it is, they said should repair the shimmy I feel driving. They are also going to do a 4 wheel balance. They are hoping the balance will be on Hyundai's dime. They're going to try to pin it to the TSB. Once I get the exact details on an email, I'll report. But in the meantime, if you know where to find TSBs on the Hyundai/Genesis site, you might want to check.

Here is the TSB that is being done to my car with regards to road vibrations. If you haven't had this done, you may want to ask your dealer service to check this out. It has something to do with incorrect markings for wheel balancing. TSB INFO

I lease a 2018 Genesis G90 5.0 HTRAC. I love the car. I leased it in July of 2018. I was childhood friends with the salesman and, because we knew each other and had previously discussed it, he knew that I absolutely cannot stand a vehicle that shakes or shimmies on the highway. Major, major issue for me. The day I took possession of the vehicle, he told me that he noticed the car shimmied/shook on the highway, even though it was brand new. It was a "demo" car, which apparently the dealership manager drove, and it had about 4,500 miles on the odometer when I leased it, but it will still deemed new. Anyway, they put a new set of tires on it at 4,500 miles just before I took possession of it.

Fast forward about eight months. It's shaking on the highway once I reach speeds of 60 m.p.h. or more, and it's driving me crazy. I take it back to the dealership, which is 2.5 hours away from where I live, and I'm told my rims are bent, presumably from hitting pot holes. I pay $250 to have a third party rim repair shop re-balance, or straighten out, my bent rims. Afterword, it drives much better. However, just a couple months later, I notice it's shaking again at highway speeds and it's driving me nuts. I take it back to the dealership (five hours of total drive time). I'm told my rear tires are below factory spec and the tread is worn down low, even though they only have 16,000 miles on them. I'm also told that the front two tires are cupped and have unevenly worn due to misalignment. I pay the dealership $607 for two new rear tires, and they cover the cost of the front two tires when I explain to them the history of the problem and the fact that they put four brand new tires on the car only one year ago. Now, it's still shaking above 60 m.p.h. It's not a jarring, crazy shaking, but it's enough to be extremely bothersome and frankly unacceptable for a $75,000 vehicle that carries a monthly payment that's about as much as my house payment.

What do I do now? Has anyone else experienced similar problems? When I had it in the shop this most recent time (earlier this month) I specifically asked if the rims were bent again and I was told no. I was also told that in order to totally fix the problem, I need four new tires. I now have four new tires and an alignment, and I still notice the shaking and it's driving my absolutely bonkers. Thoughts? Advice? Thanks in advance.
I too was having that problem,I kept bugging them till they did a steering wheel recalibration and it's now as smooth as silk ,u might wanna have them do that

Was wondering if there was anything new related to fixes on the steering wheel vibration issue at highway speeds. I will be providing dealer with the Technical Service Bulletin noted in post above - Wheel/Tire Vibration Genesis G90: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10183961-0001.pdf
Have had car road force balanced at solid shop twice - vibration issue has improved but remains. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Look up my 21 July 2020 comments. May help.

I had some strange noise coming from my steering. Genesis replaced my steering column. That seemed to fix the vibration issue. Still not near as smooth as my LS460, but way better than before.

Ron:
Comparing the LS460 and the G90, which do you prefer and why?

The LS460 has it's benefits. First and foremost is service. Lexus treats you like a Luxury car owner should be treated. They set an appointment, give you a loaner, and have the car back that day if not the next. The ride is second to none. Smooth as silk. Where I messed up was buying an F Sport which was loud, stiffer ride, and not my thing. But that was certainly my bad. Lexus though, has slacked on tech and quality in my opinion. I guess if you take an 18 vs 18 Lexus year (LS500), the Genesis is the overall better car. Since I have a 17 G90 which was the last year of the 460 series, then my Genesis is hands down the better car with respect to tech and luxury. I can easily tell you that I would buy a Genesis over a Lexus any day of the week.

I have a 17 5.0 and developed a horrible shake in the steering wheel. Both front rims were warped from potholes and repaired by a hydraulic machine then road forced balanced. The shaking went away. It is the opinion of Derrick ,the owner of The Wheel Doctor in Yonkers, that the Continental ProContact Tires are among the worst he has ever seen. I replaced the rear ones due to wear at 25000 miles and they are rated for 40000 miles of wear. He also said that on average one in ten tires comes from the manufacturer "out of round" and must be aligned with the rim to be true. I was hoping all the tire work would have cured a problem I have had since the start of summer but it hasn't. From a standing stop to a mild acceleration my car has a skipping sensation. Transmission?
HI... Did you get any answers? I have same problem at 17 to 19 mph from a dead stop. thanks

For me the issue seemed to be resolved when I got a new steering rack. Is it perfect? It's pretty close. Did a trip recently and the car drove nice. When I get new tires, I suspect it will be even better.

-New drivetrain made no improvement to the vibration. In all fairness, I think I got a lemon but Hyundai/Genesis has been diligently trying to fix the issue for 3 years without a penny out of pocket and I got a 3.5 G70 to tool around in while it was in the shop -great car - wish it were larger!

I rather enjoyed the G70 when I had it as a loaner. Not a car I'd own, but fun to drive.

I don’t think you got a lemon I have the same problem and professional reviewer felt the same vibration they couldn’t fix it either.

UPDATE - G90 Steering Wheel Vibrations at Highway Speeds: Had our 2018 5.0 G90 road forced balanced twice and had work done on the rotors. This seemed to fix the steering wheel vibration issue, but unfortunately VIBRATIONS HAVE RETURNED.

Has anyone fixed this issue and remained vibration free?

Thinking of swapping the Continental Tires for Michelins, but not confident that will fix the vibration issue. Have also considered going with high performance rotors.

Any additional input/suggestions/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I have had a new steering column installed, balanced etc. once I get around 60 it shimmies. I do believe it’s one of the ongoing G90 issues.

Please excuse my ignorance but how would the rotors have any effect on the vibrations?
