  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

SMH- Low oil light

Is this the only shop in your area that will work on a Genesis? Is it the dealership shop (I'm guessing not since they had you picking up parts for them).. It seems the car goes to the shop with one issue and returns with two new issues. Repeat and rinse sort of thing. Continuing to do the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome - well - Einstein said it was idiocy. I won't say that, but I do wonder why you're continuing to let them at your car...

I never had to deal with a situation like that. My best guess is that the insurance will offer you a check for the estimated cost to replace the engine new or re-manufactured. The problem is that it may take forever to find a re-manufactured 3.8 Genesis sedan engine or for a new back-ordered engine to be shipped.

In your case I would just ask for a check for the estimated cost of a new(or re-manufactured) engine including labor cost and just cut your losses by buying a different car if they offer $15k or more. Sell the Genesis as is. If they only offer $12k(value of the car) then you have to decide if that will be enough money to settle with.

Note: I personally would take the insurance check and drop in a used low mileage 3.8 engine myself. You can find a used engine for sale with similar mileage for about $2500 on Ebay.

Hi. Sorry to bother you. Cant find a way to send you a message on here. I had a question on installing an EQ on my 2012 Genesis and I see you have worked on your own Genesis stereo. Are you able to let me know where you got your wiring diagram or provide a link? All I need to know is which pin numbers on the lexicon amplifier are carrying the signal IN from the head unit so I can install the EQ Between the head unit and the amplifier. Thanks in advance.

Finally got a call from their insurance guy (Farmers). He was a total di*k, had attitude, barely listened to what I had to say, and just blew me off for most part. Said "is what it is" when I asked for options I'm being given.

Talked to local store manager and he was very apologetic. We had a good long discussion about plan etc and at this point, even though they sent insurance costs of new engine, I'd probably only be allowed the salvaged engine option. They replace all fluids, belts, hoses, timing kit etc. I told them I wouldn't accept a 90 day warranty and he said max would be 2 year parts/labor. He said I could have rental car after insurance signs off. But told him once insurance calls them with plan, I want to sit in person and get EVERYTHING in writing about what they are doing, what I'm getting, warranty etc.
Farmer's is the worst! I once had one of their policyholders do an illegal left turn in front of me & total my Acura TL.... They completely lowballed me from the start. I had to fight them tooth & nail to get a decent settlement out of them. Even though the police report stated that it was completely their driver's fault....

Car still in shop. :)

Yeah, I'm at the point that I wish they would fail on their mission of getting the replacement engine put back together and just tell me they will have to just buy me out and I can walk away from it all. Doubt that option will happen, but I can dream. LOL

Just got a text from the Genesis service center that my car had a 3:30 appt, so it looks like the mechanics at original shop got engine loaded into car. Now we'll see if I get a call today or tomorrow saying car is ready.

Ok folks. They day has arrived!

Just got the call that the car has passed inspection by Genesis service and has been car washed and inside cleaned.

Car is now in my possession. :)

Guys at shop were very nice and gave me rundown of what all they did and replaced etc. He noted to me that they washed the vehicle inside and out and cleaned engine bay. Great I thought and thanked him and went on my way.

I get to car and its covered in dirt, engine bay is as dirty as it always has been, and when I started car, there was maybe 1-2 gallons of gas left in it. Sheesh.

It does seem to run much quieter and feels smooth. No weird noises as of yet.

Did you let him know that he was describing the wrong vehicle? Heh. Hopefully this takes care of your problems. Good luck! Keep us posted.
