  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Speaker cover in the trunk

Just got my refund check from Hyundai. The trunk piece was super easy to install, just like everything else I've done so far (e.g. emblems, illuminated scuff plates, chrome V8 door trim, mud guards). I love cars w/ well-integrated OEM parts that are easy to replace/install. ;)

After reading this thread, I went to my dealership, to make it short, Hyundai paid for the part and installation. They also reprogramed the air bag system, seems there is a recall on that item. Any way, my trunk is now complete. Now change in the sound quality. I'm one Happy Genesis Owner.

Thanks for the information. I stopped by my dealer today. The service manager hadn't heard about this issue. He looked at my trunk, looked at one that was prepped for delivery (it had the cover). He called his Hyundai rep and asked whether he had heard of this. The rep asked whether I found out about this on the Internet :)

So the dealer is going to order the part and install it when it comes in.

Much props to everyone on this thread for info on this. It's the first negative thing that anyone has to say about the car: the ugly top of the trunk interior.

I just picked up my 3.8 premium plus. I didn't have the cover. Went to the service manager and he ordered the part and will be installed for free. The dealer also signed a "we Owe" note regarding this.
Thanks guys...

I bought my 3.8 in July, manufactured date was Oct 2008. I do not have the speaker cover in the trunk.
After reading the threads called the Genesis number and spoke with a nice enough young lady. Short, she didn't know about the trunk luggage partition and no one within asking distance didn't either. She's promising to "research" this and call me back. Will let you know how this comes out. I have no problem ordering from the dealer if Hyundai will reimburse cost. Maybe I will come out like some of you and the dealer will just throw it in as cust satisf....

My car purchased May doesn't have the cover either. It is going is for its first service on Thursday and an alignment. I have also asked for the cover to be installed, I pretty much made it sound to the service writer that it absolutely belongs there and is missing on my car. I'll post back my results. I don't see it being a problem.

You should go through proper channels. Do not be surprised if they refuse to pick up the tab for this. It's not the dealerships fault that Hyundai isn't installing these on V6 Genesis sedans. It's not something listed in the brochure, nor was it ever promised to you. Hopefully your dealer will call Hyundai for you, but don't bet on it.

If you really feel that strongly about it, I'd suggest calling Hyundai Customer Service yourself. I'd be willing to bet they'll reimburse you just like they have for so many other owners, myself included.

All Genesis are being supplied with the cover as per the dealer, my V6 produced in April 09 has cover. By the way what is a "Proper Channel" as compared to say an "In-proper Channel"

Have any Canadian V6 owners had any luck getting the trunk covers? I really think my dad needs one...

I had requested that my Service Advisor at the dealership talk to Hyundai Canada about this which he did. They agreed to supply the cover and cover the cost of having the dealership install it. It was done at my last Oil Change service.

Do you mean improper?

The Genesis V6 does not come w/ a speaker cover from the factory IIRC. Are you saying your dealer is personally installing them on vehicles or that it came this way from the factory?

If your Genesis does not have the cover and you would like one I'd suggest calling Hyundai Customer Service and see what they're willing to do for you.

The way I read that is that his dealer is implying that there was a running production change on the V6 sometime this calendar year and that all newly produced sedans coming out of the factory will have the covers.

I don't think dealers do anything unless they take credit it for it or they can mark something up because of it. The cover is a fairly expensive part, and obviously not very owner is going to notice or care that it's missing.

Maybe that's the case, but my Nov. built model did not, and the local HMA rep came out to the dealer when the part was installed to take a look. I can't see why he would have done that it was a known problem or a design change. But maybe it's a case of quick response to customer/press complaints.

I just dropped my car off for service and mentioned to the service advisor I would like the cover installed. I mentioned that the V6 in the showroom had the cover and mine should too.

Update...

The dealer is ordering and installing the cover for me. At first, the service writer said he couldn't do it, however, I requested that he call the regional rep and within an hour had an OK to do it.

Glad to hear that you were taken care of. I have to say, I had my doubts (some dealers suck and don't seem to go out of their way to make the customer happy if they don't benefit financially).

If it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have realized that my trunk wasn't complete.

I just printed out all the comments here (including the with and without pictures of the trunk) to my dealer. This was the first time they had heard of the problem but they promptly ordered the part and it is now in (took about a week to arrive). I will have it installed (no charge for the part or labour) under warranty some time next week.

Had to call Genesis office back, other rep forgot about me. Spoke with Kevin and got a case number. I have ordered speaker cover from dealer (Hyundai of St. Augustine, FL) Need to have oil changed among some other "WE OWE" items. Will see how the reimbursement goes, three weeks is not too bad.

My local dealer received part but were too busy to install it so I just asked them to give me part so I can install it. Now I need to few minutes to figure out and install speaker cover. Is there a guide?

There are clips that go under the rubber seal on the outer edge and the inner edge it should snap into place IIRC. I did mine in 5 minutes and it hasn't come off in 6+ months of use.

My Genesis came with the speaker cover alreadu installed from the factory.
