  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Spyshots of 2021 G70 facelift

^ I thought the new G90 is the first to get the new Genesis treatment?
I think he means in terms of material/display. The new display will likely have its own type of graphics apart from Hyundai’s one. That’s what I think he’s saying. Also technically, the G90 is running on the chassis that was started when Genesis became itself if that makes sense.

By new, I'm taking you mean the F/L G90.

While it's the first to have gotten the new design language/sheetmetal, it's just a partial work-over and not a full implementation of the design language (can't fully implement the design language on a F/L typically, unless one is willing to pretty much start over - which increases the cost substantially).

Also, the interior/dash design for the F/L is largely unchanged; the next G90 will get the new interior/dash design.

But I'm talking about the total Genesis treatment, so a F/L doesn't count (whether it be for the G90 or the upcoming one for the G70).

Apparently, for the F/L G90, the graphics/font were changed for interface to differentiate it from Hyundai, but not sure the extent of the changes and if the GV80 and G80 will be getting a more comprehensive change when it comes to the UI.

While the current G90's platform was launched as a Genesis, it was in development well before Genesis became a separate brand; and technically, the G90's platform is just an extended version of the current G80's, which formerly was known as a Hyundai Genesis.

What I'm saying is that starting w/ the GV80 and next G80 - we're seeing the first truly Genesis models (where development started after Genesis was formed as a separate brand).

Agree 100%. There is no way a Sonata will drive like the G70 does and that was the main reason for this car to exist. Technology will come when facelift arrive in a couple of years. It came first to the Sonata because its facelift came first but it's an anticipation of what will come to the G70 and believe me, it will be better for sure.
Agree as well- I bought mine primarily for the awd and the 3.3 engine- I wanted a comfortable smaller car that was fun to drive. Next sonata doesn’t have either of those afaik. However... Wife (low interest level in cars) and I were watching tv a couple days ago and the sonata advert came on showing the parking spot “summon” feature. She turns to me and asks why my car doesn’t have that feature if it’s a 2020 and itsthe luxury arm of Hyundai. Fair question. To the avg non-motorist driver- tech means more than drivetrain.
Hyundai/Genesis just needs to be careful about blending the vehicle classes too much or letting genesis trail Hyundai in anything but price/value.

side note: love the headlight streaks on the new sonata hood though.

Oh man they fixed that hideous screen, thank you lord!!!

The best thing about this is that it looks like it won’t change dramatically. New Touchscreen possibly 14.5” that’s a plus and the steering wheel not having buttons is kinda a key down I’d like to see how they implement this. Also if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Probably a stupid question but do we know approximately when the facelift comes out? I am thinking about getting the existing G70 but I'd prefer to get the newer engines and updated interior. I'm in Canada FYI.

Should be either late this year or early next year. G80 and GV70 are now the main focus after the GV80.

Dammit! They are gonna make me upgrade at the end of the lease.

First, a new engine that promises an all around improvement. Second, better and nicer tech! I was hoping to coast for a while....

Well, honestly, most models have some upgrades... It's how they keep the interest. And I wonder if the new display will be in the 22's.. I predict 23's since NA doesn't have the 3d display yet.

Sure, but my guess the 2021 was just gonna be cosmetic - mostly design language. I could pass on that. I could even pass on the engine as I'm pretty happy with the 2.0. But the case for changing models is growing.....

I'm hoping to keep my lease at the end but if the face-lift looks good, with more power and tech, it might be hard to pass up.

Don't lie to yourself. You know you want that 2.5!! More power, better gas mileage, and port injection w/out any worry about carbon buildup in the intake valves. 👌

I know most are excited about the 3.5T but I’m more excited for the 2.5T. Here’s hoping they add the DCT.

I'm right there with you. The 2.5 is a big upgrade from the 2.0. Also, that new 8spd DCT seems awesome. .. The 3.5 vs the 3.3, on the other hand, is negligible. The only worthwhile thing is the addition of port injection.

If the aftermarket comes through for the 2.5, I'd actually trade in my 3.3 for it. But I really doubt that will happen, given the disparity between the 2.0 and 3.3 right now.

It is a big upgrade. The 2.0T is very old from what I know. 3.5T is an improvement still especially in fuel economy. I really hope aftermarket for 2.5T will be big.

Is it confirmed that the 21 will have a 3.5T? If so, boo. I really like my 3.3, but more power and better mpg is always welcomed.

Not that I'll trade up since I've already sunk a bunch of cash into mods and I dont foresee me getting another Genesis if the dealerships stay as they are. I'll go back to the German brands.

im sure there will be good aftermarket support for the 2.5T, keep in mind the sonata N will sport the same engine and there will be tons of support for that.
