  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

SPYSHOTS: The next generation of the Genesis G80 is here

Nice to see that they managed to keep the same wheelbase while making the overall length of the car even longer. This thing must be around the same size as a the new 8-Series Gran Coupe. The current G80 is already the largest vehicle in its E segment, but this is new one might as well be considered full-size.

Nothing on the Sport? I just went thru the Korean Genesis website and there's a configurator there. But no Sport.

All the showroom vehicles had 5-spoke wheels. There were no vehicles with the G-matrix rims. Perhaps they were just a rumor? Or perhaps wheel style is tied to engine selection?

It was an honour coming in and helping with spy shot and some info along side the greats @Aura and @Abdullah0637

You 3 did a great job keeping everyone up to date on the latest images/spy-shots.

Which makes reducing the WB for the GV80 more puzzling.

Going to call it and say that the G80 will outsell the current G70.

If they are going to do a Sport or other higher performance variant, wouldn't be for another year or 2.

The G-Matrix wheels are the 19 inch ones in the online configurator.

I wonder if Genesis is planning a tweener vehicle between the two, something like the Stinger. Technically, they don't have an actual midsize sedan, only one compact (G70) and two full-size now (G80 and G90).

If there isn’t a Sport model, for now, why do you think they would offer 2 different wheel size options: 19’s or 20’s?

...because that's what is on the website? Go build one yourself:

Korean market models get more customization options than North American.

The "G80 Sport" powertrain successor is going to be the one with 3.5TT. If you want a G80 Sport as an appearance package, that doesn't exist and likely won't until the next refresh. Too bad.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
We should all expect a sport model to be shown within a year or 2. Normally Genesis has waited until the refreshed version to debut the sport model but with Albert Biermann at the helm I believe the it will debut sooner. With BMW, the M performance models would be released within a year or 2 of the regular vehicles.

Also I bet money that the new Genesis with 3.5TT will out accelerate and out handle the old G80 Sport simply because it's lighter more powerful and has a much more advanced suspension set up and it should also have a much more luxurious ride and feel.

I expect the G80 3.5TT to clock a 0-60 of around 4.7-4.8 sec.

I'm sure it'll be better than the old G80 Sport, but I don't think it'll be enough match the likes of the 5-Series or Jaguar XF in handling because it's still a significantly larger vehicle and weighs a couple hundred pounds more still even with the aluminum usage. This looks like it'll compete with the Panamera and 840i Gran Coupe, with the coupe roofline to match.

If we do get a "Sport" version of the G80, I expect it'll get a more powerfully tuned TT V6 with a mild hybrid system and supercharger like what is found in Volvos and the Mercedes CLS 53 AMG, since Genesis is supposedly done with V8's. And Hyundai already has a working mild hybrid system.

Love the looks of the car and I think they did an amazing job.

I wish it were smaller, as this is basically a full size sedan that is not terribly practical for city driving. It's also a shame Genesis isn't focusing its efforts on hybrid / electric cars. I want to buy a new Genesis, but I hesitate to to invest in an ICE vehicle for the long-term.

I will still strongly consider this for a lease.

The refreshed G70 will have a similar aesthetic inside and out. Also EVERY Genesis model will have an EV variant. The G80’s EV debuts next year.

Here are the CarandDriver specs for a 2018 Genesis G80 Sport AWD and a 2017 Jaguar XF S AWD.

Based on the outstanding work Albert Biermann has done with the G70 and Veloster N I have no doubt this fat ballerina will be able to handle just as well if not better than the XF. Every generation the Genesis G80s suspension is leaps and bounds better than the prior

^keyword: "in handling" ;)

The G80 Sport has mountains more torque than the Jag so those numbers are no surprise. But on a curvy lap, the Jaguar would destroy the G80. If there's any Jag the new G80 should be compared to, it's the SWB Jaguar XJ. Which also has a swooping roofline.

But yes, let's wait and see. But I am realistic in my expectations. Biermann is good, but even he can't beat physics. Even BMW themselves can't get their 8-Series Gran Coupe to outhandle the 5-Series.

FYI, the U.S. website, genesis.com, is now accepting reservations for the 2021 G80 and as part of the reservation process, you can “build” your G80 by selecting your preferred engine, and then choose from several “levels” of equipment (the packages), as well as interior/exterior colors. It’s a simple & streamlined process. However, there is no price information yet. As a result, a submitted reservation doesn’t obligate you.

I'm curious when this whole reservation thing became popular? Is that Tesla influence? Why would I want to "reserve" a car that, as history shows, will be freely available sitting on the lots around the country?

You can be first on your block to have one! Remember the lines waiting for midnight when Windows95 came out? The latest iPhone? Same idea at a higher price. Dealers will love it for markups. I'll wait.

I like the reservation concept because, as I understand it, the dealer will then order the exact car you want as part of its initial allocation - otherwise, with limited inventory on the lot, you are in the position of potentially having to settle for a car that wasn't entirely what you wanted in terms of exterior/interior color combo, features or packages, etc. Considering that you are buying & paying for a pricey, luxury class auto, not just basic transportation, I feel that as a customer you are entitled to get exactly what you want.
