  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Proud owner of a 2009 3.8. Only problem i have relates to the steering column memory. i.e. after setting the preferred position and entering it in the memory, the next time i restart it rarely goes back to the position.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

My Hyundai mechanic couldn't replicate the problem (typical)

There is a TSB for the steering column. Check the section of this forum for service bulletins.

First off, if for any reason you changed the position, while driving, and did not set it into memory, the next time you get into the car, it will return to the last setting from when you shut the car off. It will only go back to the memory setting if you touch the #1 or #2 button.

Example: When I drive my car wearing normal shoes, and no jacket, or a very light jacket, I have my seat and wheel set to a comfortable position (pushed Set and #1 while in Park). OK, but if I wear boots, and a heavier jacket, like I do these colder days, I change the position of both the seat and wheel further back, but I DO NOT push the Set and #1 button. When I shut car off, the next time I get in car and start it, the seat goes to the last position used, I.E. the position I had when I wore my boots and heavy jacket. If I want the seat and wheel to go back to the position where I wear shoes and no jacket, I just touch the #1 button while in Park, and it goes back to that position.

I had one issue - I had my seat set, and wanted to change the steering while slightly. I changed it, hit the M and 2 button, and it stuck, but after restarting the car and hitting 2, it went to the old position.

My fix was to set it how I wanted it, press the M and 2 button, then hit the 1 button, and as the config changed, hit the 2 button, and it went to how I wanted it. Been fine ever since.

According to the owner's manual, these are the steps to locking in the settings for a memory setting:

1) Press the "M" button; you should hear a beep.
2) Press the desired memory button until it beeps twice.

Your seat and steering column setting should now be locked in.

I think you are supposed to be sitting still with the car in "P" or the Park positionalso.

i have the same issue with my 2010 4.6 where the steering wheel does not return to the memory location. I have to push the saved number to actually have it return to the preset location. Does anyone have this same problem with 2010? It annoys the heck out of me and the hyundai tech guys does not know what's #@$!@# .

is it just me having issue with 2010 steering column problem where it does resume back to the saved position?

Mine returns OK, but over time (weeks) it drifts a bit low so that I can't see the headlight indicators and I have to manually run it up a bit. It is again good for a few weeks.

I suspect that there is a slight error in counting that adds up over time.

No big thing.

I have the same problem with my 2010 Genesis. I plan on taking it in when I have a list of things to fix.

Not seeing that annoying headlight indicator is a good thing, IMO. The gauges, not so good.

The low wheel position is better than like in a bus. That's where mine gets stuck most of the time.

Mine reached a point to where the telescopic action of the steering column no longer operated. I took it to the dealer, they ID'd the problem, told me it was one of the microswitches that had gone bad, and they'd have to order the part. They did so--took only a few days. I set up a 2nd appt--they changed the part out in slightly more than an hour. They offered a loaner while working on the car, but I declined--easier just to wait the short time. Since they corrected it, no further problems.

Oddly, my brother's BMW 535i is experiencing the same problem--but the "tilt" mechanism isn't working--the telescoping part is fine! Go figure! I suppose the parts are from the same manufacturer! The service tech implied he'd seen this problem before w/other Genny's.

BTW, I should note that I have about 35K miles on the car (V6, PP+)--and that's the first warranty issue I've had!

Still lovin' the ride!

I have had this problem consistently. I even took in the TSB to the dealer to show them how to fix it. It stayed fixed for a week or so then began again to "forget" what position the steering wheel was supposed to be in. Basically, I reset every time it happens and the steering wheel position stays right for a few days then suddenly I get in and the steering wheel is too low - so I reset yet again. And so it goes.

Sounds like maybe there are a couple of different problems going on here. Some report the wheel failing to return to the last driving position following the "easy access" repositioning, some report that the preset switches don't recapture the driving position.

I have both of these occurring intermittently, plus, when it happens, the wheel (tilt only; my telescoping function works fine) will not respond to the manual switch either --- which of course leads to the other two symptoms.

I'm taking her in for the first servicing in a week or two and will hopefully have it taken care of then. Thanks Dan for the advance warning about the parts availability. I'll give them a heads-up about the problem when I schedule the appointment so maybe I won't need a second visit.

Exactly what I have. Stays ok for a few days, then I find the steering wheel low and have to reset. Also when my wife uses the car, she hits her button, and sometimes the steering is down in her lap (low) and she has to reset it back to her position. (The seat does not forget its preset position).

The only major probelm I've had with the steering column memory is that didn't seem to work at times in very cold weather, especially if the car had been sitting out in the cold for a long time.
