  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Steering on Curves - Sticks

Is the steering rack considered part of the drive train and covered by the 10/100 drive train warranty? Probably not. This steering rack should be a recall or a TSB with an extended warranty period like the exploding sunroof.

Apparently not

I purchased a 2018 G80 ultimate on July 29th from Napleton Hyundai genesis in Indiana. Car had 13,900 miles at time of purchase. I drive it back to Michigan and didn't notice anything. I ride a motorcycle so I'm not in the car much, but I have noticed the wheel sticking occasionally. I had an appointment, but she told me the steering isn't part of the power train warranty. So I have to wait till I get money for repair.
Has anyone reported or read of a crash or incident due to not being able to recover the stuck steering?

A 2018 has a five year bumper to bumper warranty even if purchased used. So it is covered. The Power train warranty is for 10 years and it conveys if purchased new or if it is certified used.

Also the Steering Assembly is not part of the power train so what you were told is pure BS.

Thanks.. I dropped vehicle off and asked dealership about warranty.. She said "yes" bumper to bumper for first 5/60..I get nothing after that. I have a great aftermarket warranty company that I deal with.. So I'll get warranty at 40,000

I've owned my 2015 Genesis for 3 years. Over the past 6 months I'm having issues with my steering sticking when making turns. Most obvious when hwy driving at higher speeds. The wheel fails to return to the center position. If slightly turning right, it stays right, same with the left. Two dealerships and Hyundai Corporate are involved and no one can give me an answer. They say that I'm showing no codes with my power steering - tires are new Michelins - alignment is perfect. I'm beyond frustrated that no one's even making suggestions of things to check - the camber - tie rods - I just keep googling and hoping to come up with an answer. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
My 2017 GED did the same thing. They replace the Center link And it corrected the issue

I having the same problem of steering 'sticking' in left turns. It is especially prevalent at highway speeds. In addition, at highway speeds, I always wondered why the G90 seemed to be such more drive then my G70. The same steering problem which is so obvious in large turns creates a situation where it is hard to set a straight position on the highway. It is always just "a little off" dead center. We lived with this too long, but car is now at dealer, so we shall see wast we shall see.....

I received an email reply from Genesis of Southfield Michigan...

We have a case with Genesis of America, they have approved us to replace the rack and pinion and complete an alignment.

Parts are on order and are expected to arrive next week

When driving on a winding road (mainly left winding) the steering my Genesis will stick to the point you have to yank it back to center. Of course the dealer cannot figure it out. Has anyone experienced this issue?
Not to the degree of “Yank” but I can feel what I will describe as ghosting in the steering. I’ve only owned my G80 for about 1 month, just now hitting 30k miles however still a cause for concern.

Mine was kinda like a "Nudge", but it definitely didn't straighten out on its own. They replaced my rack and pinion so it feels great now. No steering issue anymore. What year is yours? Have you talked with a dealership? I emailed links to the steering videos from youtube and also emailed my own videos. I also sent links of some of these post to my service advisor when she said she had never heard of these problems.

I recently had my 2018 G80 in for maintenance and reported this very problem. They took the car out for a test drive and could not duplicate the problem. Of course they didn't take it on the highway which is where I notice it most. Right before they called me one of the tech's noticed a message put put by Gemesis about this very issue. There is a replacement part I'm waiting on. As soon as I have this part swapped out, I'll let you call know (1) if it fixes the issue and (2) what part they use to fix the problem so you can inform your Genesis/Hyundai dealership.

They replaced my entire rack assembly. Steering feels almost perfect now (going to have them recheck the alignment, very slight pull to right now). Now that motorcycle season is winding down in michigan, I'll get more seat time in G80.

I've the same problem with my g70 now and they are saying that the car is involved in an accident and wants me to claim my insurance which is of $8000. Geico is shocked looking at the car that there is not even a single scratch anywhere and how can they say that it was involved in an accident. They have a very bad customer service. Frustrated with Genesis. Never ever buy this car.

So it was like this when you purchased new from the dealer? How many miles are on it now? It’s under warranty so Genesis can’t try to pawn this off to your insurance company to deal with. Geico won’t touch it so would not even bother with them. Keep documentation of what Genesis does or does not do and attempted fixes in case you have to go down the lemon law path.

A fairly common problem has something to do with the variable assist power steering motors, at least that is what I was told. After finally duplicating the problem with hard s turns in a test drive, they replace the entire steering assembly. Problem fixed, no recurrence.

My 2018 G80 Sport has this issue also. It is currently at the dealer getting parts replaced to fix it. Here is a link to the Tech sheet from genesis addressing this issue, send it to your dealer and they should fix it.
