  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Steering on Curves - Sticks

When driving on a winding road (mainly left winding) the steering my Genesis will stick to the point you have to yank it back to center. Of course the dealer cannot figure it out. Has anyone experienced this issue?
Garak, please see my posts.

Thanks for this information! This is my first post here after searching about this issue for my 2018 G80 and finding the forum. I called my dealer and told them about the issue and TSB. I scheduled an appointment, took the car in and within a few hours called and told me that they are replacing the rack assembly. I had my car back in 4 days (including the weekend) and it drives great now! Great info.

Good to be safe.

Thanks to all who contributed to this post -- we are having this exact issue and will be contacting the dealership after the long weekend. Greatly appreciate all of the information!

Updating my own post -- the vehicle is currently undergoing warranty service to replace the steering assembly. Thanks again to all who shared on this post.

Yes, I have a 2018 3.8 G80 AWD and have the same problem.

If this is Scott from the FB Genesis Owners Group, you're on the right post. I posted the link to the TSB. Sounds like it's time to set up an appointment!

Thanks, you caught that

Is the car AWD, maybe your feeling the active corner control, I know the first couple times I felt it, it feels like your going into the corner faster than it should and you have to back of the steering input a bit.

This is basically torque vectoring by braking inside wheels when turning.
This. Happens to me on sweepers or freeway ramps. I thought it was slipping at first, but once you learn to deal with it, everything works out fine.

Yes and they had to replace my steering rack assembly. Thank God it was under warranty

Did you ever get this figured out? I have the EXACT SAME ISSUES and dealer cannot figure it out

Really great discussion and information on this. I just bought a 2018 G80 Sport on Thursday and took it on a road trip. I had to keep both hands on the wheel the entire time. Now I know you are not SUPPOSED TO drive with just two fingers on the steering wheel, but gripping the wheel for a full 3 hour drive is not right either. Unless the previous owner just went to the grocery store and back, I am not sure how they drove it. I have an appointment for the ABS recall so hope to get it fixed soon.

I also have a 2018 G80 sport and I have the same issue. It also sticks when cornering left I have to manual bring the wheel back to straight or the car will keep cornering. I have an appointment Monday to get this looked at. I believe it is rack and pinion or power steering related.
I am extremely disappointed in my car so far. It handles like absolute trash and should not be that way! I compare it to the Lexus’s I’ve owned and it’s terrible

I am interested to hear what they say with your vehicle. Let us know what they come back with.

I rarely use the lane keeper.

What I mean by stick is this: While driving on the road curves to the left, when it starts to straighten back out, you have to yank the wheel to the right to get the car straight again. This does not happen all the time, but enough that it is troublesome.
I have the same problem in my 2018 g80 sport model. Dod you figure anything out?
Thanks!

This is the Technical Service Bulletin for the steering issue you describe experiencing. It's not anything you need to learn to "deal" with. Priint this out and take it to your dealer. Hopefully you are still under warranty. It should not be difficult to reproduce. If you can, have a passenger take video of you coming out of a curve and the steering wheel sticks after the curve ends. Show that to the service writer.

Mine does the exact same thing, it started happening about a year ago. It doesn't happen all the time, but it will happen when going into a curve or coming out. I'll have to kind of jolt the steering wheel a bit to actually move with the curve. I explained this to the dealer during an oil change and of course they couldn't replicate the issue.
2016 genesis. Same thing. Also vibration when cold between 28-30 mph. Goes away when warm.

Do you really mean YANK? First, it's not a Tesla. I've had my '18 G80 Sport for over 40 months and leave LKS engaged nearly 100% of the time. Yes, on curves, especially over 60 mph, LKS mostly doesn't keep up with the turn and needs a little steering wheel help (a bit of pressure). Fine with me and it keeps me in the loop as well.

I suppose not keeping up with the LKS might require YANKING the steering wheel back to center.

I would argue that it's safer my way and it lets me scan more of the road ahead than with LKS disengaged. And I believe it's totally disengaged below 40 mph. Is it better than my '16 Acura RDX? I would say both vehicles were about the same re LKS.
