If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Figure that I already know the answer, but was wondering if anyone has been able to get their Iphone to work with the car via bluetooth as opposed to the cable? Didn't know if the new stereo bluetooth capability provided some new connection options. I can't see to get it to work.

Thanks!

I did the upgrade Saturday and have no problem using Bluetooth with the phone in my pocket or console (no cable). Works fine with the cable too. But I admit that I may be missing your question because I can't figure out why you'd need stereo for a phone call?

Probably for the same reason why you would want Bluetooth connectivity between your phone and your car rather than plugging it into a jack. You can leave your device in your pocket or bag without having to dock it. Auto-pairing would connect the audio device (which might be a music player--and not just an Apple iPod but anything with A2DP support) to the car system.

Bluetooth devices with Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) support are capable of transmitting high-fidelity stereo audio, compared to the monophonic low-bandwidth audio that's associated with the normal headset pairing.

Another possible advantage would be that you could connect other passengers' music devices to the head-end unit without having to physically connect them.

Dataguy is exactly right. Was hoping we could finally connect to the iPHone/iPod without the cable via using the new A2PD functionality.

Wouldn't streaming your iPhone/iPod music that way eat up much of your battery? And if you're in your car anyway, what's the objection to plugging it in?
Not arguing, just trying to understand.
Thx.

Did you already know this? I'm assuming you did, but this thread has made me curious:

One of the new audio-related features of the 3.0 update is support for Bluetooth's Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). This lets you stream stereo audio over Bluetooth to other devices, such as wireless headphones, a speaker system, or a car stereo. Pairing an iPhone 3G with an A2DP speaker system and a set of A2DP headphones is simple, and the devices stay paired even when the phone goes in and out of range. However, you have to control volume on the audio device; the iPhone's volume buttons are disabled when streaming audio over Bluetooth.

When a phone call comes in, A2DP streaming works just like the iPhone's headphones or built-in speakers: If media is playing, the media audio fades out and the media pauses so you can take the call. After hanging up, playback resumes.

However, there are some issues. For example, to switch audio output to and from the Bluetooth accessory, you have to use the iPod app, even if you're not playing music, and if you turn off the stereo Bluetooth accessory before switching the audio output back to the iPhone itself, sometimes you can't restore audio on the phone. Also, Wi-Fi signal strength sometimes drops while streaming audio over Bluetooth on an iPhone 3G.

Update - Re: Stereo Bluetooth with new Iphone 3.0 upgrade?

So I was able to easily get the Voice Recorder system to stream over the bluetooth connection pretty easily. Of course Voice Recorder has a bluetooth button in the app which switches the audio to the Genesis. Will try it again on the iPod app per the topic above. We'll see!

Has anyone got music to play through Bluetooth? I need to know before I buy a certain product....basically it plays music via bluetooth.

Hey "BacktoHyundaibychoice"...you say you got your headset to work, but did you get music to play through your iphone to your car? Please let me know and don't ask me "why?" in twenty different ways like you did the last person :)
