  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Subwoofer under front seats?

And I was asking my Genesis mechanic to give an opinion about repairing this...
In fairness to him he said he would pull the seat to "look at it" and I declined.
Thanks to those with more knowledge about acoustics, sound reproduction, and so on for tracking on this.

I dont think the g70 and g80 amps are same.
starters g80 has more speakers and a single SUB. and a 12 channel amp like KIA.

Kia Rates amp at 750 watts
g70 amp wattage is not known
g80 is 900 watts

Would be odd if a factory system was adjustable for crossover frequencies? They are built in based on head unit or amp design is my hunch, but could be wrong? What would be interesting is if a Stinger amp would install where ours does and would it make any difference? Even a G80, is it the same amp or different? Commonality among parts saves inventory and design time where it can be accomplished. Would think Hyundai would use as much common stuff as possible?

I agree that the G70 and G80 are probably different systems. On a side note, the cut out of the G70 in the graphic makes a good looking convertible.

I agree. Anyone willing to chop off the Top ?? 😅

I have reached out to Genesis and Lexicon on friday. Lexicon said that Genesis is the one to be contacted. Genesis is yet to reach back to me sometime this week. My main question is how to adjust the volume of the subwoofer and also why is the system so powerless. I dont hope for much, but let's see what they have to say.
also i asked why doesnt any place say the power wattage of the system? the G80 and G90 say they are 900 watts..
The 15 speaker system is 660 Watts.

Update: including link.

I almost would bet that the Harmon Kardon Amp and lexicon amp are exactly the same thing, with a different enclosure around them. ie why lexicon no longer promotes the g70 on its site under genesis and there is no information about our lexicon system anywhere on the web.

Both cars are 15 speakers and have the same features. I think Hyundai is throwing us a fast one to make it seem more premium.

What do you guys thinks?

Okay so i found Kia stingers Factory Service Manual and was going through the pages. Is it just me or does the writing on it says Lexicon by Harman?

Harman makes a bunch of stuff. JBL, Harmon/Kardon, Initfity, Mark Levinson. They are like the luxottica of audio.

Edit: Nvm, I see what you mean. I think we need to see what the amp in a stinger looks like.

If we compare the stingers service manual documentation(linked below), to this listing linked below, which has the correct genesis part number, I think we can confirm they use the same amp. Look at the connectors and layout in the attached photos. The first photo is the G70 Amp. The 3rd photo is the stinger amp.

Well, as you already know (obviously) the part numbers are different, and the mounting brackets look different as well. Unfortunately we can't see it to make sure, but I bet those harness connectors are the same.

I wonder if we could pin this to an aftermarket amp...

We can, they have already done it on the stinger forum.
Also they have different mounting brackets, but look exactly the same, with the same connectors and both say lexicon.

Installed pictures of 2020 G70 amp. Small size amp for claimed power output. In my younger days of removing and reinstalling head units and installing separate amps, to a get 600+ watt system, amp sizing was much bigger. Also strange none of the amp wires appeared shielded. I also used shielded low level RCA style cables between amps and head unit. Last in case anyone has a wiring diagram, you will see a stubbed out unused connector. Wonder what it does?

Any Idea on the wattage of the Sub woofers? If we think the amp is not powerful enough, we can use an after market amp and get some decent sound from the same subwoofers under the seat..

I think it could be a challenge hooking in a separate amp. I think I’ve seen pin out wire diagrams from our factory amps, but quality amps use low level RCA inputs. If the factory amp is a line level or speaker level hookup, you don’t get the best distortion free sound quality in my opinion from those types. We would need to know ohms of the subs for they could be 2, 4, or 8 ohm speakers and ohms directly affects power ability and load on the amp. A lot of unknowns here. A Car Toys or similar car stereo shop might be of use if someone trust a high schooler to tear into our cars for an aftermarket install. I busted several push-on clips that held the quarter panel interior panel in place and I was really careful. Genesis has way more attach points than should be needed for a trunk interior panel.

Has anyone notified the Stinger forum of what is happening here on this thread from their sibling?

Yaiiks.. I am not taking it off. But yes i am slowly starting to adjust to the sound of this car. found a sweet spot and just staying in it.. using Qobuz for lossless music streaming.

The scoop on our subs. Was bored today so removed my front seat and the sub. The seat was the easy part, the torx screws holding the sub down not so much fun to get at. The sub does not move much air upward as expected on a normal woofer, but it moves the air downward toward the floor. The magnet is not in the back of the woofer like traditional, but it sits on top of the cone it appears. That allows the sub to not have to be so deep. I played several songs and it thumped fairly decent. Shot some video from my iPad of the bottom/back side of the voice coil movement and its very noticeable at times. Tried to upload the videos and this site does not seem to like .MOV videos for I got an error with the file extension. I only have Apple products so everything I do will be with an Apple. Anyone interested in seeing a video of the speaker movement, tell me how to convert a .MOV into something this sight allows for I’m not sure we can even do a video or not? Or somewhere I can upload them to for members to get at? I am not the most tech savvy either so could be something I’m doing wrong?

This may be a dumb question on my part, as I don't know how to use Apple products - but have you tried uploading the .MOV file to YouTube? Or maybe you could email it to somebody and they can convert it for you...?

No dumb questions. My 25yr old son comes up from San Antonio and will be over tomorrow or the day after and he probably knows how to help? Have no idea how to upload to you tube, but that is a good idea and I can just post a link. Give me a day or two and I’ll report back to the group.
