  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Subwoofer under front seats?

Bumping this thread since I was waiting for SD card update to be sure that was not my issue. Certainly the same with no sound from the subs under the seats. I defaulted and reset and changed all other settings with zero results. I can see the membrane just under the grill if I use a flashlight. It is dark under there. The membrane never moves with sound set at 18. I feel the speaker grill and no vibration, and there is certainly no sound.
I found this at a Kia site with same questions:

I tried it on mine and of course there was no dancing currency.

I have appointment at dealer Friday and will update the forum.

What year is your car?

Last bump on this issue. I took my car to selling dealer. Service advisor was unaware of under seat speakers. I showed him the sales brochure from the showroom that had the Lexicon system detailed. He assigned it to one of the two Genesis techs. He looked all around, located the fan under seat, could not determine the purpose or actions of the speaker. Changed lots of settings and some things I did and maybe others I had not. He finally ramped the sound and decided the subwoofers were subtle. A new G70 on lot had same response so no identifiable issue. He said he was reluctant to pull the front seat to go fishing and I agreed with him.
I increased the bass and drove home satisfied that what it is is what it must be.
As an aside, the service area treated me as a special customer, manager gave me his card and said call, do not use Genesis Connect, to make appointment. He set his shop as my preferred service location. Offered loaner if time for diagnosis was longer than expected and overall it was a pleasant experience. We all learned something today.

Edit: This dealer, my selling dealer, is 15 miles farther from my home than the closest dealer, a larger higher volume location. This was a test and they passed the audition.

With a sub you gotta know what the low filter pass is set to. It could be something like 40Hz and if your music source doesn't have something at 40Hz you may hear zip.

Best bet is to download a frequency generator and run through the low end and monitor the subs and not use a music source.

Just don't hit the brown note too hard ;) :hitfan:

Or Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys.

I would have to agree that the subs under the seat don't do anything. I put my hand under there with the system blasting high quality music with zero coming from those speaker grills. I honestly think they aren't hooked up.

I am also going to try the reset and see if it resolves the issue.

Update:
I tried all the reset options, but could not get the subwoofers under each sheet to even move a tissue around.

Ditto: playing Bobby Brown deep bass cuts. Nothing from the subs under the seat in terms of feeling or hearing.

I think this is a proper response. The subs are for the very lowest Hz response and felt as much as heard, is how one online source mentioned. The music source must be precise for the subs to operate. A tone generator could be the test device. To expect an auto mechanic to understand, diagnose and repair an advanced sound system is an expectation too far, as I know now. The new car on the lot had the same (non) response as my car so how do I tell the service department what the issue is? Certainly the factory may have installed incorrectly or something like that. But at this point I go with what I have and focus my worries elsewhere.

+1 on the tone generator or sample track. I find the sub very picky as well on the source, must be how the processing splits the signal amongst the speakers.

I connected my phone to car via Bluetooth, searched YouTube for bass tracks, whole car shaking. Mine must be working I assume.

Bluetooth is crap quality; you’ll get even more pronounced bass if you plug your phone in or use a USB. Just FYI

Newer android phones can actually achieve CD quality via bluetooth if they're using the right codecs (and if the car/receiver is equipped for it too).
How applicable this is to the G70, no clue. Wouldn't work with my phone running those Sony codecs and too many variables for me to figure it out

I tried this last night with a bass test tone track. I think the crossover is set down around 70hz, that's where I noticed the paper I was using start to move. Not sure why they set it that low,100-150 would have made more sense, and I was disappointed with the output as well. Plus the woofers in the door were crossed over that low as well, down to 50ish so they were still handling the majority of the bass duties and putting out a lot more than these supposedly more powerful 10" underseat subs. Overall, not impressed with the underseats and will be installing a box in the back.

Thanks for looking into that for us.. Kind of feeling like the under seat subs are useless right now.

Your test results help to explain why some music really seems to have hard hitting bass in this system while other music has very little. The speakers and subs in the system seem to be capable enough but this idiotic tuning really holds the system back overall. I really miss my aftermarket head unit from my previous car, it had the ability to set crossover levels for each speaker in the system, had a multi band graphic equalizer and the ability to adjust individual speaker volumes. This system in comparison only gives you a volume knob and bass/mid/high sliders which seem to affect each speaker equally. If we had the ability to adjust the crossover frequency for the subs as well as the subwoofer volume level, I would likely be completely satisfied with this system, but like yourself I will eventually install one or two subwoofers into the trunk. I won't likely go the extreme level my previous car had with dual 12 in subs, but one or two 10 inch subs would round this system out nicely, and likely protect my door speakers as I wouldn't feel the need to adjust the bass setting in the system to high levels.
