  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Subwoofer under front seats?

Your test results help to explain why some music really seems to have hard hitting bass in this system while other music has very little. The speakers and subs in the system seem to be capable enough but this idiotic tuning really holds the system back overall. I really miss my aftermarket head unit from my previous car, it had the ability to set crossover levels for each speaker in the system, had a multi band graphic equalizer and the ability to adjust individual speaker volumes. This system in comparison only gives you a volume knob and bass/mid/high sliders which seem to affect each speaker equally. If we had the ability to adjust the crossover frequency for the subs as well as the subwoofer volume level, I would likely be completely satisfied with this system, but like yourself I will eventually install one or two subwoofers into the trunk. I won't likely go the extreme level my previous car had with dual 12 in subs, but one or two 10 inch subs would round this system out nicely, and likely protect my door speakers as I wouldn't feel the need to adjust the bass setting in the system to high levels.
I wonder if the secret Engineering Menu allows for tweaking of the speakers.

Yeah, that's why I'm looking for a wiring diagram for this system. I can always tap a rear speaker for a line out converter but I'd rather come directly out of the amp, which I've heard is somewhere in the left in the trunk, for a cleaner signal.

I'm wondering is the crossover is set so low because they also use the sub to reduce any external sounds. Many cars use a 180-degree phase shifted audio signal to cancel engine sounds.......

I did the subwoofer test using an app called ultra-low bass tester. The sub under the driver seat buzzes the dollar bill I placed on it at 50hz and below. When I played a few tunes that I thought were low bass sounds like Bobby Brown or blondie (Rapture), it doesn't appear that the subs turned on. Not many songs I can think of that are much lower than those two songs, except maybe, The Funky Cole Medina. I'll have to try that one as a test.,

Yeah, I agree with everyone who said a crossover below 150 Hz is a waste. But at least we know it works just isn't that useful for music.

How hard is it to get the sub out for inspection? I only ask for if the amp does not have the crossover built in, it’s possible the crossover is located at the sub woofer. In my younger days when I installed subs, Kenwood head units, and independent fully adjustable electronic crossover with separate amps for tweets, mids and bass in my cars, I would remove the crossover from the sub enclosure so I could use my own crossover and dial the sub in for my taste. If this is the case with the Genesis, removing the cross over which is typically a coil and capacitor and replacing with something else will allow you to alter the crossover frequency to the desired range.

When I took mine to the dealer I spoke with the technician and he said he was willing to pull the front seat to go deeper into the situation, and necessary to remove the speaker. He also admitted he was not a sound system developer. I said no, thanks. I have adapted myself to the conditions.

Like @tarhoosier stated above about his encounter at his dealer, you would have to remove the front seats to get to the sub.

I tested the subwoofer by putting my hand on it before and after the rest and there was barely any vibration or any noticeable difference.

It's hard to tell if If there was any improvement so it would be much appreciated if someone who can feel the subwoofer working could post their sound settings.

...I would remove the crossover from the sub enclosure ...

Assuming the crossover is external to the speaker and external to the firmware of the radio. My guess is that the under-seat subs are used for other stuff and not solely for music, e.g. engine sound isolation.

I will test this today and see. I had a 12 inch kicker in my previous car and that sounded amazing. I feel the absence of bass in my 2020 g70.

Okay as weird as it sounds. I am no audiophile but someone who has a trained ear in listening to music.

I did a hard reset with the pinhole as well as from system information. The bass response has definitely changed. I use Carplay to play music. There is still no movement in terms of vibrations from the subs under the seat.

I will disconnect the battery and try this again once I get a chance.

My CarPlay, on certain songs rocks with decent thumping bass. Not window rattling but I’m not 20 anymore and don't want that. I think I have sound effects turned off. I need to move the seat one direction or the other to verify what my sub is doing. I need to rip a instrumental song from a Mannheim Steamroller CD I have that will test the bass limits.

The bass sounds great in my car, but I'm not seeing or feeling any response from the under seat subwoofers.

To be honest, even with a frequency sweeper, I think the same thing. I don't think it does anything.

I am going to look into how complicated it is to remove the front driver seat and possible test this over the weekend.
