Suggestions for tire recommondations for my 2018 G80.

In January,a blowout of inside sidewall of passenger rear tire on a shallow pothole at 33 mph in a 15 ultimate package 5.0 with cdc suspension. This after reading here the stock Conti tires are not to be trusted because of soft side walls. Car had only 19k miles and tires had 75 percent tread life. I knew I would be replacing with something else more sporty after they wore out. The blowout hastened my decision. Stock Contis we're also 334 dollars a tire for the rear to replace so I got Goodyear eagle exhilirate UHP All seasons. Wanted Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 but they were just really rolling out in January and I couldn't get the two different widths. Got a g80 5.0 '18 now, and the Michelin's are going on with a new set of wheels probably from Vossen in the spring, if the Contis last that long
Sometimes you don't have to spend a fortune on name brand tires to enjoy a smooth ride You will be surprised I have an 18 G80 5.0 and a 15 Genesis(actually another G80 to me) 5.0 I purchased and installed some inexpensive Chinese Tires called Delinte I feel like I am cloud 9 now everytime I am rolling

Yes, I have them and are working out well.
Thx EdP, I finally decided to get the Nitto which are doing well, maybe not as quiet as the Conti's which had some "noise reducing foam" inside the tire, but are great handling, etc. for the mostly dry, some wet/snow conditions when traveling.

I want to say thx for your posting because I was in your same position (19k mi waiting for 20kmi) waiting to change tires, but decided to just purchase now and be able to relax a bit more for my road trips. Happy and feeling a little safer with my new Nitto's.

I have Genesis 2018 G80 and having serious vibration issues, I have read all the post about this topic so guess its time to replace my tires, Right now I have a set of Michelin's on the car. I bought it from Carvana and know the car came out of Florida, not sure how long it sat there before I bought it.

Not looking for a high-performance tire but a good smooooth tire! :)
Do you still have vibration issues??

I have been watching this thread for a minute...I will be in the market for new tires, myself and I am much more in the Summer/Performance category.

Being a new owner, I traded in my Corvette for my 2018 G80 sport. First 4-door car and first car with an automatic. Taken me awhile to adjust to the size and not shifting anymore. Kinda miss the shifting.

I have always had performance tires on my past vehicles.

I am looking at Hankook tires. Had them on my Vette and they are decent tires and very reasonably priced. Otherwise, I will look at the Conti and/or Bridgestone.

Right now, the car came with Michelins all-seasons and they are "okay" but they are NOT a summer tire.

Well the Pirelli P Zeros that I thought were so great (did relly ride and grip well) for about 8000 miles and then started getting a vibration in the front left side. Had everything checked out on them and found that the front tires were cupping. Both of them. Not too happy about having to replace these expensive tires at 8000 miles. Not sure if this is related to a suspension problem or not.
Hi egg, here I will copy and paste a discussion I started in another thread but so far no feedback from anyone about my concern, I see you talked about the P Zero and wondering if you remember something like I mentions below you can provide me with your experience . Not sure if your P Zeros were same specifications like mines where label in the tire besides dimensions has W102 M+S as well. I know M+S stand for Mud and Snow capabilities but considering I have the OEM winter set as I mention in the thread they are way more quiet than the Pirellys. My G80 is 2023 Sport Plus here in Canada. Here is the original thread:

"Hi,
I got my G80 last November and got it out of dealership with the winter set installed on Continental VikingContact 7 which btw extremely quite rides with this tires during winter season and impressive performance on contaminated roads with freezing temperatures especially with snow, but maybe the review for this tires will be on another discussion.
Reason here now is about the Pirelli PZero just got installed for the summer season by the dealership on April 01. I do feel this tires which are performance types but all season instead the ride IMO is not that smooth as I was expected, is hard at least for me to says if is vibration or just not quite tires because the patterns. The suspension in this car is amazing and as said before started ridding it with the Continentals where I was expecting the opposite. I feel something in the pedals and steering wheel which I will say is not vibration, maybe?. Could be not properly balanced or by design this is these Pirellis expected behaviour?
I would like to hear some feedback with similar owners about experience so far with this tires on the G80 Sport Plus which is the model here in Canada and US which not quite sure what is their version".

Am I reading that you removed the 19" wheels and tires that came with the car and replaced them with 18"? If so, how long ago and how's it going?

Recently put a set of Mich Crossclimate all seasons on my G80, to replace the OEM MXM's mainly because of their outstanding cold weather/snow ratings for an A/S tire. We get snow in winters...

Anybody have any experience with Continental ControlContact Sport SRS+???

They look to be exclusive to discount tire .. They're supposedly better than the CONTINENTAL EXTREME CONTACT DWS06...
Replying to a 3 year old post - but I've have these on my 3.8 G80 for a year now, and love them. Quiet, grips great, and smooth.

Would you buy them again the control contact sport srs?
Yes, I would. I was looking for a Michelin but these had about equal specs and slightly lower cost. If I recall, they had a higher mileage warranty, but one notch lower in snow performance - like a 3 instead of a 4. I live in Texas so this was not a big concern.

I bought my 2016 G80 3.6l 2.5 years ago, it came with the Yokohama YK740 (discontinued in favor of the YK-GTX). Wondering if I should stick the YK-GTX or go for the Continental Control Contact Sport SRS+? I drive the car 8-10k miles per year.

edit: I could also consider the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus? My main concerns are ride comfort and ride quality, sticking with the reputable tire brands. I am already satisfied with what I got from the Yokohama YK740, so unsure if it's worth switching.

I think the DWS06 Plus may have improved on the weak sidewall issue with the older DWS06. I decided on the Pirelli Cinturato WeatherActive for my G90. Wanted an all weather tire for the occasional snow fall, the CrossClimate 2 is now a 4 year old tire that doesn't have rim protection so I decided to try out the newer Pirelli tire.

After some looking at past service records the YK740 GTX didn't last as long as I expected. The tread depth at time of purchase (51,147 mi) wasn't measured, but eyeballing it, there was a surprising amount of meat on the tire.

In October 2022, at 60,204 miles, the tires were measured at 9/32" with the Left-Rear being the only one at 8/32".

In October 2024, at 74,769 miles, the tires were measured at 4/32" in the front and 5/32" in the back.

In simplistic terms, with my various driving styles across those thousands of miles, that's an average of 3,641 miles per 1/32". The tires brand new come with 12/32" depth, so it's possible they saw 7-8k miles before I bought the car, and able to go nearly 33k miles before reaching 3/32" from new.

With the 60k mile warranty, I'm left wondering if the tires being unable to do more than 40k miles is due to the weight of the car and RWD. I'm now curious to go for the YK-GTX and their new 70k mile warranty to see what that does overtime. The YK740s rode well enough to my liking as well as staying quiet, while providing plenty of grip for my driving styles.

edit: To add, unsure if it's a very slightly minor detail or significant enough worth mentioning, the tires are production dated for 2019, making them 6 years old soon.

I swore by and bought the Yokohama YK7xx series tires from Discount for may years, and convinced friends and family to do so as well. Just took a set off my wife's Infiniti QX50 a few weeks ago. They are great tires and did good for all.

My G80 came with the Michelin MXM4s and they were very quiet. Whole car was super quiet. I figured I'd stick with those or buy another type of Michelin when it came time to replace the OEM set, which I did at 23k miles.

Looking back, the YK780 and it's replacement was a great tire, but not as quiet as the higher end Michelin and Continental tires - especially near the end of their life.

Maybe I should have gotten the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06+ but so far the Continental ControlContact Sport SRS+ is quiet and doing just fine.

Just wish Continental would shorten their product names...

My enthusiasm on researching these various options seems to be high...so I did some research. I found this comment on a Reddit thread:

I reached out to Continental via email and they stated the following:

"Thank you for contacting Customer Relations at Continental Tire the Americas. This tire is manufactured in Sumter, SC and Camacari, Brazil. As for the tire, it is an all season, UHP tire. The letters SRS stands for Sun, Rain, Snow, and symbols representing the letters are molded in the tread marking the tire as suitable for use in those conditions.

The SRS+ is comparable in performance to the DWS06+, while the original SRS was comparable to the DWS06. As for the SRS+, vs the SRS, the SRS+ offers improved wet breaking, and snow transaction compared to the SRS."

I followed up asking what the difference between the DWS06+ and the SRS+ is and they stated: "The only difference between the tires, the SRS+ is exclusive to America's Tire, Discount Tire and Discounttiredirect.com."

So, to me that reads...for $10 less per tire, the SRS+ is just an exclusive re-brand of the DWS06+ for Discount Tire. Weird! Although, the tread design is different on each tire and the DWS06+ weighs 1lb. less. So I am not sure how they can be "comparable in performance."

edit: One thing I do like more about the SRS+ is Discount Tire (along with the YK-GTX) displays scales rating the ride quality and rolling resistance. Unfortunately on a refresh of those product listings I don't see them anymore, but the SRS+ was rated 4 out of 5 over the YK-GTXs 3.5.

edit2: It seems it can be pulled up by going through the Treadwell Finder.

SRS+ ride quality: 1733119271177.webp

YK-GTX ride quality: 1733119302038.webp

So there is still yet a chance I pick the SRS+.

Nice write-up, blunion05. I appreciate you pulling the stats and data together on the tires I've used, and now using.

Thanks! I wound up going with the Yokohama YK-GTX. The median estimated tread life of the YK-GTX was eons ahead of the rest of the tires offered by Discount Tire for the car. The YK-GTX at 10k miles per year was estimated to last 57.5k miles and/or 5 years and 9 months. All the other tires (Continental SRS+, Bridgestone, General, and Sentury - wtf is Sentury) were rated to give up within 3 years and 10 months or less, or a little over 38k miles.

Time will tell if I picked a winner for tread life without sacrificing decent performance. Fitted around 77,280 miles! Hopefully I remember to come back to update overtime the treadwear

I may need tires for my 2019 G80 3.8 with Staggerd 19" rims. Current tires are Continental ProContact RX. I don't drive aggressively and mostly commute with highway driving. Looking for viable options. Considering Khumo Majesty 9 solus since they are about $100 less/tire. Also Considering Pirelli P Zero AS+3 and Michelin Pilot Sport, which are slightly less expensive than stock. I live in the northeast, so wet traction and very occasional light snow are to be considered. I've been happy with khumos on my wife's santa fe, but this is a totally different type of vehicle.

Suggestions on these or other recommended options? Thanks.
