  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

Me too. I wonder if there is a way to order all options with 6 cylinder, but no sunroof. I live in Los Angeles and with temps running frequently over 100 I have no need for a sunroof especially if it will introduce rattles or squeaks. I have a 2001 Avalon (no sunroof), and a 2005 Maxima (sunroof). No rattles or squeaks. I would hate to get a new 50K car and have that issue.
I don't think anybody has a need for a sunroof.

Another way to jack prices up

But, the last time I could actually "custom order" a new car was in 1991 - now you take what you get.

I like my sunroof, especially when the weather is nice and I can keep it open.

My rattle has been fixed. They removed the sunroof and put down a felt liner. I love my car sooooo much more now. I drive around without the stereo on for the first time since I bought it and love listening to the engine. I even leave the liner open and no noise :)
Can you kindly let me know which Hyundai dealer fixed your car?
I would like to have my dealer contact your dealer, if they need, to fix the same problem of mine.
Thanks.

I had less of a rattle and more of a short, low pitched "groan", especially when I turned and went over bumps or slight changes in elevation. I took it in last week and the technician found it in the sunroof. The bolts securing it had to be tightened. Of course, he had to remove the entire headliner to get to it. But now the noise is GONE!

I would like to have my dealer to contact your dealer if necessary to fix the same problem of my car.
Thanks.

My genesis had a really annoying rattle from the roof as well. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't hear it. When I picked it up I couldn't hear it either. I wonder if it is more of a cold weather problems. How long would this be covered under the warranty in case it comes back? They did give me a free 7500 mile service and had the rear genesis wings for free. I had to purchase the wings myself.

I had been hearing a squeak and rattle from my sunroof and was going to have the dealer look at it last week (when I took my car in for head-unit replacement). As part of the process of prepping the car before service, I removed the toddler seats from the back a day before taking it in. Ironically, the noise went away when I took out the toddler seats and the car was a quiet as a mouse. Now the only thing making any noise is my stupid Passport Max2.

Do you think it could be related to the warmer weather instead? I also removed a car seat before I took it into the dealer but reinstalled it and do not hear it now but I think it is weather related as it was much worse in the freezing temperatures.

Purchased my '15 3.8 Ultimate 3 days ago and started hearing the rattle on the passenger side about mid-way in the sunroof (fore to aft) with it closed. I just hit 300 miles. I'll take it to my dealer (Carolina Hyundai) on Monday morning.

Don'cha hate when the Passport is all noisy? This car is really bad about that. Just went to Austin. Did it both ways.

I have the same rattle, creaks in the sunroof / interior./ headliner as well!!!! Extremely annoying. since it is intermittent the dealer said they cant hear anything during test drive. I hear it every 5 to 10 minutes. depending on the bumps. Dealer and mechanical service is far inferior to the USA, here in Canada especially in Calgary. This alone will make me never own a Hyundai again. My ten year old Audi a4 never ever rattles and creaks like this NEW genesis sedan that they are so proud of. apparently Hyundai and KIA have history of sunroof creaks, and rattles and even shattering panoramic sunroof.

Anyone have any suggestions? I am wanting to sell this car. I almost want to beat the sunroof with a baseball bat. Please help anyone in Canada or Calgary.

The tech and I took mine for a ride last week and he heard the rattle, so my car is in today for surgery. I'll let ya know what he finds and does.

+1, it is pretty annoying and noticeable when the sunroof is tilted up. Could be the #1 negative thing on my list about the Genesis after two months of ownership...

You would think that after a year of genesis owners complaining about this issue, there would have been a solution to the creaking noise so many of us hear from the pano roof.
To me, it's clearly the plastic trim pieces on either side of the sunroof. Hyundai engineers, come up with the fix, distribute it to the dealers, and put this issue to rest.

I'm assuming no one has gotten this issued resolved by the dealer yet.

This was one of the major reasons that almost prevented me from buying this vehicle.

The noise became more prevelant after my car was placed on the lift to receive the new tires.

P.s. Silicon spray did not resolve the creaking noise for me.

I would presume the issue for Hyundai is that this issue does not effect all the cars and are having a hard time narrowing down the real root cause to apply a corrective action to fix. I have zero rattle issues with my car. Not sure if it is narrowed down to an exact build date or not. My car was built in July 2014. What is your cars build date?

I think it would be very helpful when we post about problems to include the build date and/or part of the Vin#. We'd all know if it was an early issue or still going on.

Thoughts?

I have no owned my 3.8 for a month and I have ~3200 miles. I have not had any issues with noise from the sunroof. I think my build date was Jan of this year.

Add your build date to the bottom of your signature. See below. That way it is there whenever you post and those needing to know can see it.

My 2015 V6 AWD also had an annoying sunroof rattle. It was more of a ticking/clicking sound that occurred with the roof open or closed. The dealer heard it right away but couldn't fix it. They decided to replace (or have replaced at a certified body shop) the entire pano sunroof. Covered under warranty but this shouldn't occur on a $50K car 4 months old. This was 2 months ago (April, 2015) and no rattles yet!
