If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

I test drove a July build, and purposely bought an October build date to avoid an issues with the roof, didn't work out for me. The roof was relatively quiet up until two weeks ago, 6200 miles.

Soffmore, ugh! I thought the sunroof rattle was a thing of the past. Any others with relatively new builds still having a problem? I would be mighty unhappy to pull the trigger on a car that I do not even want a sunroof on, but do want the electronic and safety goodies, if my sweet new ride rattled. Especially living with a 10 year old Nissan Maxima and a 15 year old Avalon that do not rattle.

I had the sunroof rattle as I drove home to Baton Rouge from Houston January 30. I assume my car had an early build date because I bought it right after the new Genesis debuted. (My dealer here didn't have the car I wanted, and a dealer in Houston did. I was driving there anyway, so that's where I bought it. Because of other issues regarding the dealership's honesty, I would not recommend North Freeway Hyundai; but it wasn't their fault the sunroof rattled.) I took it in here in BR and, fortunately, the rattle was so constant that running over a couple of speed humps at the dealership did the trick. The technician told me he tightened the hell out of the screws (or bolts) that hold the sunroof in place. It hasn't rattled since.
However, after I left the dealership I noticed three things: My HUD was so dim I couldn't see it in the daytime at all, my rain-sensing wipers didn't sense rain, and my front proximity warning worked only sporadically. After replacing some part for the wipers (at Hyundai's expense, I assume) didn't work, the technician figured out that he had somehow squeezed one of the wires when he tightened up the sunroof. He freed the wire, and everything works! Further evidence that we have passed the point where we can work on our own cars.

Oops. I just noticed I haven't updated my profile. I now drive a 2015 5.0 Ultimate and that's the car that had the rattle. I'm changing my profile now.

I first noticed what sounded like shifting noises in February. The dealer said there was a TSB which instructed them to lube the tracks and this worked for a bit but then rattled over bumps and even normal driving.

Since then my car has been in the shop for this three times and the issues continue. The issues are different depending on the weather - cracking, popping and shifting noises when it is hotter and rattling and shifting noises when it is cooler/colder. This is obviously a chronic unsolvable problem that is either the result of poor engineering or structural damage or both.

Of course i have a case # with the useless customer service and they have escalated the case. This means i have a useless local case manager who never returns phone calls or her voicemail is always full.

Has anyone else had suspension issues either front or back?

Without trying to argue, I will question whether this is "unsolvable."

Whether it is solvable without financial impact to Hyundai, that I am uncertain of ...

On the surface, this doesn't seem like it should be that difficult.

The question remains, how common is this with recent builds? I certainly understand nfluxx concern. If this is a 1% problem, that is one thing, if it is 10% or greater, might want to look elsewhere.

Since it is the second most viewed thread regarding mechanical issues for the vehicle (Other than the tire recall), I'm assuming it might be an issue with many vehicles. If anyone has additional information, please share.

Today after 4200 miles, I noticed a slight rattle with the roof closed. I opened the roof and it went away . I kept closing the roof until almost closed. No rattle. However, when fully closed the rattle began. Started playing with the pop up wind deflector. With roof closed and just enough room for my hand to get in, if I pushed it up and down it made a lot of noise!
I think what is happening is with the roof in the closed position, the wind deflector sits in a well and can move up and down. This may be the cause of the problem for many of us. I have not reported this to the dealer yet and have been trying to come up with a fix. Unfortuneatly, there is no way to secure the wind deflector in a down position in a permanent way.

After leaving the car in the shop for a week and thorough review from both engineers and dealership techs a new roof has been ordered!!! They obviously could not solve the problem with out doing so.

We shall see what happens next but I will be starting the Better Business Bureau process right away as the car has been in the shop for this approx. 6 weeks for this issue alone as well as others.

Best of luck to others!

Don't know if what I am experiencing is a rattle or a creak. Just started happening as the weather got warmer. When I leave work (car sitting in sun all day) the roof seems to creak for the first mile but then I dont hear it anymore. I park in my garage every night so I never hear it in the morning.

Anyone had any luck on getting this fixed? I have noticed it over the past couple of weeks and meant to mention when I brough it in for my first servicing, but completely forgot. It is now driving me nuts every time I drive the car, which is sad, since I love everything else about it. Is this the kind of thing that gets fixed at no cost to me? I've only had it for 3 months...

Mine is in for service right now and parts have been ordered for the sunroof. I'll let you know what they replaced and whether it worked in a few days.

My 2015 V6 AWD also had an annoying sunroof rattle. It was more of a ticking/clicking sound that occurred with the roof open or closed. The dealer heard it right away but couldn't fix it. They decided to replace (or have replaced at a certified body shop) the entire pano sunroof. Covered under warranty but this shouldn't occur on a $50K car 4 months old. This was April, 2015 and no rattles yet!

I had the same problem. Going over bumps or sometimes just turning the car often produced a rattle which seemed to come from the drivers side by the sun roof. it didn't matter if the sun roof was open or closed. The dealer found the problem when they dropped the head liner. It was a loose bolt (or nut) that was rattling. It had worked loose over time. I was afraid that they might not be able to find the cause but they did and I have no more problems now.

I have been experiencing the same problem as most of you- Tried the 3m spray just about everywhere I can get it- No dice- However this AM when I was cleaning the outside Roof glass I noticed that when applying pressure and cleaning I was hearing that same annoying "creaking" noise! I'm sure someone has covered it here in all these pages but I have not seen anyone mention the actual exterior "side" strips on either side of the roof possibly being the problem. I'm putting money on it that this is the creaking sound that I'm experiencing- The interesting thing is it's happening on both sides of the Roof- Anyone else notice this when applying pressure / cleaning the roof?

Thoughts on this theory?

If this is in fact where the creaking problem is coming from I'm not certain how the dealership will be able to correct the problem??

I just got my car back from another one-week-plus visit to the dealer for fixing the vibration and the sunroof rattle. They made my vibration worse and a Hyundai field rep admitted they don't know how to fix my sunroof.

My car has been out of service for a month and a half for NOTHING! I'm fit to be tied and am totally out of patience. Two letters to the prez of HMA have resulted in quick responses, but no fixes!! The only other thing is that I now have a loose rear view mirror.

I was HMA's best customer, but no more.

Have they offered anything in compensation? I love my Genesis, but the fact I paid 40k for a car that has issues 3 months after buying it has me incredibly frustrated.

I was wondering the same thing. My noise doesnt sound like a rattle so much as a creak, almost like plastic being bent the wrong way. I haven't had a chance to test it out but plan on doing so this weekend.
