If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

Wonder if this has anything to do with build date? Most here have first run cars produced in early 2014. Anyone feel like making a poll with build dates to see if we can find a common denominator?

For the record my build date is July 10 2014. This info can be found on a sticker when opening the drivers door.

Great idea Midnightsun. Start up a post for it. When I pick up my car up on Monday I will be sure to post up my build date. Thank You for letting us know where it is located. Much appreciated.

Was visiting the dealership today and sat in a loaded sonata and I must say they really raised the quality and to some extent it feels like you are sitting in the genesis's little brother. Although I tried a Base sonata after that and I was not impressed.

i've started noticing a noise as well, closed the headliner and the noise disappeared

So has anyone had this issue successfully resolved by their dealer yet? I'm dropping off my car this evening for them to look at it tomorrow, but I'm not overly optimistic. At the same time, this definitely needs to be resolved. Not an acceptable issue for a new car at any price point, but especially at the $52K price point.

2650 miles on my 3.8 Ultimate here, I just today began to notice a very random, barely perceptible "popping" noise coming from the direction of the passenger side front corner of the glass roof, when going over various road imperfections... This car is so quiet that I probably would have never noticed this in my former VW CC! I'm not going to worry yet, its very subtle and hardly noticeable, it may even be something rolling about in the glove box, or possibly a result of the shade being always open as is usually the case with my preference for the car.

I'm going to check these and any other potential simple causes before reporting it at my first oil change, as it is now, unless its a simple fix I am hesitating to mention it at all as I don't want anyone messing around inside the headliner trying to determine the cause! I'll report if I can find a simple solution of this behavior in my case.

I agree - I don't want anyone "learning" on mine, either. :) Just for grins, try opening or closing the shade or roof just an inch or so to see if it alters or eliminates the noise.

I occasionally get a very slight noise from the rear of the roof/shade and if I close the shade even an inch it seems to stop the noise. Of course, YMMV.

I understand where you guys are coming from with not wanting the techs to be "learning" on your vehicle. I guess I have a couple of reasons why I'm taking mine in to get checked:

1. I want to start officially documenting this with Hyundai. I feel if it's not documented, once you finally report the problem is, to them, when it started.

2. For a while I could open and close the sun roof to make the sound go away for a while. Now that is no longer the case. But then I thought to myself as I was doing that: this is a $52,000 car - this is ridiculous. What would passengers think as I did that while driving them around to make the noise go away?

I agree that the car is so quiet that it probably makes the problem sound even worse, but my rattle is actually getting worse - it's now constant on all but the smoothest pavement and keeps getting louder to where you can hear it over the 17 speaker stereo. I will probably tell them to check it out, but until they have a service bulletin on how to address this problem, they shouldn't be taking apart headliners and such. I'm concerned about what issues that could cause.

I only have 1,600 miles on my 3.8 Ultimate, and I'm already taking it in for an issue, which started at about 500 miles or so.

Actually you're probably in pretty good shape since the noise has gotten worse and should be pretty easy to find. Hope they fix it quick for you - keep us posted.

One thing that really impresses me about the 2g is that this sunroof problem seems to be the ONLY problem that pops up in them. I don't recall seeing any other complaint happen more than once and I think that's AMAZING for a brand spanking new platform!

Thanks. That is my hope. I drop it off tonight and pick up the loaner. They do their diagnosis on my car tomorrow. I will definitely update here. Hopefully I will have some info that will benefit others with this issue.

I feel the same way. Other than the rattle, I feel this car is amazing. But one of the reasons I bought it was that it's so quiet... or was.

I am seriously considering this car. However I would be terribly disappointed to spend the most I ever had on a car to find a rattle. I am still driving a 2001 Avalon XLS (no sunroof), no rattles, comfortable seats, and suspension. But, I figure once every 14 years, what the heck, plus I like some of the new safety features. Good luck with the repair. I am awaiting your response. Thanks, Steve

Well I received a voice mail that my car is all set - apparently they found the issue and fixed it already. I have not spoken to them directly yet (I missed their call while in a meeting) but will get the details from the service manager tonight when I pick it up. Even if they looked at my car first thing this morning the entire diagnosis and fix couldn't have taken more than 2 hours. So I'll find out the details and post them. And we'll see if the rattle is actually gone and if so that it stays away. I'm hopeful this is it. I'm confident that the rattle was present for them to diagnose, as it was nice and loud the entire ride from work to the dealership last night. I will keep you all posted on what the resolution was.

Hi all,

While doing a search for sunroof rattles I ran across this forum and this thread. I have a 2015 3.8 AWD which I got about 4 weeks ago and started noticing a distinct thump coming from what I thought was the rear sunshade or trunk about a week or so after taking delivery. Upon closer inspection and tests, I realized it was coming from the sunroof area, but only when it was closed and only when going over a bump or dip in the road.

I took the car in to the dealer yesterday and told them about it. They called me back yesterday afternoon and said they found the cause but would have to order the part for it (a new sunroof seal). They will let me know when the part is in and I will update this thread if that indeed resolves the issue.

Welcome to the forum ceebee. Your gonna like this place. We all help each other out when it comes down to issues, ideas, fixes and all things Genesis. I pick up my car this afternoon and the first thing I am going to listen for on the way home is this sunroof rattle that has been discussed here. What Is the build date on your car? Someone on here stated it was noted inside the door jam on the drivers side.

Again, Thank You for posting and keep us posted on your fix.

Thanks for the welcome! I will look for the build date this evening when I get home and post it.

So the service department acknowledged the noise and determined that the sunroof track needed to be cleaned and lubricated. I asked how often that will need to be done since apparently it was necessary after only 500 miles and minimal use of the sunroof. They said I shouldn't need it again. We will see but I'm hopeful. The noise was completely gone on my ride from the dealership to my home. There is a little smell in the car from the lubricant they applied but that should air out quickly. I will definitely report back here if the noise comes back, but so far I'm very happy with the results. I was very happy to have my car back - I definitely love this vehicle.

Thanks - do keep us posted if it is truly gone. I have not had time to get mine back in to the dealer to assess the sunroof rattle - but have 1st scheduled service in mid October.

I left the windows open in the garage last night, and the smell from the lubricant was gone this morning. Also, still no rattle this morning on my 30 minute drive into work, which includes some really horrible roads in the city.

Picked my car up yesterday and have no Sunroof rattle... Knock on wood... ;)
