Took my car to the dealer last Friday and they kept it all day. During that time all 4 Surround Sound settings were checked (AM, FM, XM and AUX) they said they checked them throughout the day and the settings remained. I reminded them that this was happening in at least an 8 hour period to my observation. I called the Customer Connect people at Hyundai and they suggested that the car be left overnight because Service should be open on Saturday. Went to dealer and Service had closed for the night and was not open on Saturday. I talked to the sales manager and the salesman that sold me the car. They went with me and we set the 4 settings and locked the car and left it overnight. I went back first thing Saturday morning and we unlocked the car and checked the settings. 3 of the 4 were unchecked. Verification.. Vindication!!
Called Monday and informed the Service manager and he said they would have their Tech guy work on it and give me a call back. I emailed him this thread, so they could see I was not the only one. I called again Tuesday and got my answer.
Wait for it.........
Wait for it.........
Working as designed.
They explained that they talked to Hyundai Engineering and confirmed the behavior on the other two 2012 Genesis on their lot. Following is an explanation of the design as told to me by the Service manager.
The stereo is designed to hold the last selected Surround Sound setting that was listened to as the car was shutoff. When you return to your car and start it, the last listened to component should reflect the Surround setting as selected, if it was selected before the car was shutoff. All other Surround settings will uncheck.
If you are listening to FM and you select Surround setting and then as you are driving you switch to XM and do not select Surround, you can expect all Surround settings to have unchecked.
Make sense? I hope this helps some of you. BY DESIGN and a crappy design at that. Should be 1 Setting for Surround Sound just like my BMW 525i that I traded in. Not so impressed with the Tech so far in Hyundai, compared to my old BMW and my wife's 2010 Lexus RX 450.
