  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Test Drive Impression

I think you need to settle down a bit...LOL. It is NOT a 4 second car. The Stinger is ~4.7 seconds to 60 mph. I gather the G70 will be between 4.4 and 4.5. With the RaceChip...we are looking at 4 seconds.

We just need to wait for the notable mags to get a hold of one and do what they do.

I believe car and driver got a 4.4 0 to 60 in the stinger so i am sure that would be 4.2 territory for the g70 i reckon just from how it feels while i drive that it is very close to 4.2 just comparing it to the M240 i drove as well as the cla45 i tested. The g70 feels just as fast as these lighter cars

Pretty difficult to make tenth-of-second judgments just by the seat of our pants. You may well be right but I think we'll really have to wait until we get some formal road tests. And it will be helpful to get several. For almost every car I've owned, there's been an early road test that was just ridiculously quick and that nobody was ever able to replicate thereafter. When three or four tests are in, we should get a more realistic impression of what the car can do. I'm confident it will be plenty quick but we won't know exactly how quick for a while yet. I assume US automotive press will get access to very early cars, perhaps even before dealers see them. Although there's the risk that those cars are cherry picked for best performance, if we se road tests of cars that at least aren't all the same color, we can have some confidence in the modal test times across publications.

I said near 4 second car, meaning 4.1 to 4.2 seconds. 4 seconds is easily possible in a dragstrip. The 4.7 second figure you got on the Stinger is for marketing. The manufacturers put very conservative number for other reasons. Like what Buckdes said the Stinger got 4.4 sec from a car review. This means you can get 4.3 sec on a dragstrip with good idea condtions. The G70 puts down way more power than the Stinger shown in the dyno. I am not too worried about 0-60 runs anyway as I look at pulls from the rolling starts and highway speeds.

I agree here.. when i roll at about 10 to 20 kmh and then punch it the G70 takes off and i Perviosly owned a bmw 335xi which has a 4.7 to 5.0 0 to 60 and this G70 feels much quicker than that car.. rolling or from a stop... launch control for some reason feels slower than just smashing the gas, weird ??

I think you need to stop talking out your arse. You know nothing...not more than anyone else does. There are no real world tests by any American or Canadian legit sources.

Also...say what you mean. Near 4 seconds could also mean 3.8 or 3.9...right? The G70 and the Stinger have the same engine....what are you even talking about way more power.

The dynos performed by the car review in Korea shows the G70 putting out a lot more power to the ground. There has already been real world comparison between these cars at the road course track and the G70 being largely faster despite their similarity in the engine.

It is the same engine. The G70 is faster because it is smaller thus lighter. Not sure about the transmission...I think the 8-speed slush-box is the same in both though.

So...if you are claiming the 2 cars have "similar" engines...that means you are saying they are different. You simply have to post a link to prove that...sorry. We all know it's not true.

It will likely be similar to the Audi S5.

Genesis G70 is near 4 second car from 0 - 60mph. It puts considerably more power to the ground than the Stinger. What's scary is that this car will do even better at the quarter mile and high triple digits in the highways. This car will take out Infiniti Q50 RS400 all the way to the top end including Mustang GT, E92 M3s, E60 M5, Lexus IS-F and RC-F, Audi S5 and the list goes on.. One of the Korean review/test drivers made a comment not to go take your car and try to race against one of these G70 3.3tt models because you will get humilated. This car is severely underrated on paper. Many people on the road will underestimate this car because it only has 365hp but performs way beyond 400hp. It will surprise many people when this car starts to hit the street.

but isn't this the same engine as the g80? Is this just a weight difference?

Quick question; Would you consider the G70 a good daily driver? Or do you think it is kind of harsh on average roads. You mentioned the C43,I heard that one is very firm suspensionwise, how does it compare>? Thanks!

I just had my first taste of it, definitely a fine daily driver. I can't get over how planted it feels without being bone crushingly firm. A seriously well balanced, fun to drive car with character that I wouldn't mind taking another couple out to dinner in. Honestly, they have hit a home run with this car.

There is no doubt that the G70 will be quicker,it's just a matter of physics.Weighing 500 lbs less that the Stinger ,it will be faster with the same engine, the question is by how much.

The Stinger does not weigh 500lbs more than the G70... This was already discussed in a previous thread: https://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?22414-G70-Curb-Weight

For quicker viewing....

Stinger GT Limited: 4165 lb.
G70 3.3T Sport: 3913 lb.

The above are AWD, top of the line models. The difference is 250lbs. You can watch Korean YouTube videos drag racing both the G70 and Stinger. You're looking at a ~4.5s vs ~4.7s 0-60mph, respectively. Also, on a side note, Car and Driver are notorious for posting incredibly optimistic 0-60 times.....4.4 seconds is pretty damn rare for the Stinger, if at all possible on street tires and without any weight loss or mods.

Good points all. We won't know exactly how fast it is until we've seen multiple road tests from credible sources. It's pretty hard to extrapolate from one model to another, even when they have the same drive train. How everything is put together does make a difference. Tires, for one thing, make a quite substantial difference -- not only the brand and model but the condition. Brand new tires may not perform as well as ones that have been worn in a bit. If a road test involves "breaking in" the tires more thoroughly, the results can be quite different from what you'd get on brand-spanking-new rubber. After we have multiple road tests, we'll have a better feel for what's real. No doubt, it's a quick car. But we really have to wait to determine exactly how quick.

How's throttle response in non-sport modes? Any lag or dead spots?

Hey guys,

I had my test drive yesterday and wanted to share my thoughts. I tested a G70 3.3t Sport (Canadian spec). I drove a Kia Stinger prior to it.

First of all, this is a very fast car. It definitely feels more agile and planted than the bigger Stinger. I would say that it is also tuned a bit more agressively than the Stinger. The ride can be quite harsh, especially in sport mode. Keep in mind that the roads here are still quite dusty from the winter, but I was surprised to feel the back wheels slip a bit when accelerating from a stand still. I never experienced that with similarly powered Mercs, BMWs or Audis. While I am on the subject of power, I think that this 3.3l engine is very good. Feels like there's always plenty of torque. My biggest complaint with this car though is probably the engine sound. It is very disappointing, very far behind what you would get in a Merc C43, BMW 340 and even Audi S4/5.

The interior is gorgeous. The leather is very soft and the brushed aluminium looks expensive. The suede like headliner is a very nice touch that you don't see in cars in this price range. I have to say that the hard plastics in the lower part of the cabin are a bit disappointing.

Finally, I think that it is very pretty in the metal. More so than in pictures. While the style is less eccentric than the Stinger's, I believe it will age better. My tester was red with titanium wheels and it caused some heads to turn.

I would say that, in Canada, this car is a really good deal when compared to the german big three. Sure it's a tad below in most aspects, but no where near the ~15 000$ difference suggests.

^ thanks for the review. i am keenly awaiting my crack at a test in Vancity.

question: which wheels came on the sport that you tested?

this?

or this?

the 3.3 Sport i saw at the auto show had the first ones, and that was what was shown on the Genesis configurator until recently. the wheels in the second are what shows up now. i'm not sure if i like the darker wheels as much as the multi-spoke lighter ones. darker would help hide brake dust, but still...

Kind of sucks regarding the exhaust note. With that engine...I expected a nice crackle and pop.

Now...from the outside it might not sound it...but what about on the inside where the engine/exhaust sound is artificially enhanced?

Also...I assume that an aftermarket exhaust would help it sound much better...right?

Even with the "enhanced sound mode" I find it very lackluster. I actually drove a BMW 430 (i4 engine) right after the G70 and there wasn't much difference sound wise from the inside.

You might be right that an aftermarket exhaust would help. There are a couple of videos out there of Stingers with aftermarket exhausts that sound cool.

I agree with almost everything Forch34 has said except the interior active engine sound. I put the sound on enhanced at all times except for eco mode and i think it is great !! Obviously not as good as the straight 6 from BMW and Biturbo from Merc but I was very impressed but everybody has their own opinion. I also thought that in comfort mode and eco mode this car is the smoothest i have tested but yes the steering and suspension change DRASTICALY when put into sport which i love because it definitly feels sporty.

Like Forch34 said for $15000 less on the list price and lower interest rate and lower insureance and warranty and maintenance this seems like a no brainer over the Germans.

I just hope the resale value holds up in 3 years haha thats my only fear...
