  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tested a 4.6 sedan today. I came away pretty impressed! Lots of power with the V8 and a really nice interior. For the last four years (lease is up soon) I have really enjoyed my Infiniti M35X. Today I found the Genesis much faster (VS my 3.5L) than my car and very tight steering. I did not get a chance to try any hard cornering but it really drove nice.

The interior was VERY impressive and different. Most companies have the shiny wood across the dash and doors. Hyundai chooses to use leather instead. Unusual in a cool way.
Certainly more of a sport sedan than a MB E-class. I think the E-class is the most beautiful sedan out there right now but the 6 cylinder is pretty gutless around town. The 8 cylinder (loaded) is $79,000.00 VS $51,00.00 for the Genesis. As a guy I am attracted to pretty. But not to the tune of $30,000.00.:D
(All prices in Canadian dollars)
Only bad experience was that my ipod wouldn't initiate? I had Hyundai logo on my ipod but it wouldn't hook up and play?

I am testing driving every car in my town between $50,000.00 and $70,000.00. Your genesis was very impressive and is high on my list!

PS: Four years ago I went looking to buy (lease) a BMW 5 series. I got an Infiniti which did it all the same for $15,000.00 less. No status or cachet, but a HELL of a deal! Maybe the Hyundai will end up doing the same thing this time to Infiniti. Only downside (to me) is no AWD, living in the great white north.

How did come up with $51K? You should be able to get a Genesis V8 for around $41K. Was it a 2010 or 2009 model?

Edit: Just noticed that you mentioned $51K is Canadian Dollars.

Regarding the iPod, when I first bought mine, I connected my iPod, it had the logo, and I think I could see some information on the screen. After playing with the cables (taking them out, pushing them in, making sure they were in the right holes, etc.) it started to work.

True, make sure you ipod cord is plugged securely into the connector.

After I got back to my shop the salesman called to say a girl at the dealership went out and hers' worked. She just said that you really had to jam it in. I am always leery being too hard on USB ports.

It's a great car. It doesn't have the cache, but if you're looking for your car to give off some type of image you're barking up the wrong tree. The money you save on this car, buy a few Armani suits and a Rolex. You'll get more out of those things, than something that sits next to a snow plow.

You don't have to preach to me. I bought my Infiniti for exactly those reasons four years. Ten percent of me would LOVE to have an image car! But 90% of me says don't be an idiot!
My only real concern is lack of AWD. It's funny but rear wheel drive (with winter tires) was good enough for me for 25 years and now all of sudden not having AWD feels like some great loss.:)

It's funny how fast you can get used to ventilated seats, keyless entry/start, back-up camera, killer stereo, AWD, etc.

Since you live in a place that effectively has 6 months of winter, it may be worth getting AWD, but as you are well aware, it's a trade off. You're carrying around more weight and it's gonna cost more than a normal car. I think snow tires are more than adequte. The ideal is to drive a AWD with snow tires, but I've done it many different ways and when I had an AWD I left the all seasons on there out of laziness.

The last three winters I had AWD and put Blizzak winter tires on it. And for the ten or so real bad days we had last winter I was king of the road!:p
However for the other 355 days of the year it seemed like overkill.

Remember when you had to crank up the windows?

That feels like a lifetime ago to me. It has been close on 20 years since I had a car that you cranked the windows on. Feels like it was back before cable.:D

I have a relative who bought a new Corolla without power windows or power door locks a few years ago. ;)

Probably the Accent would have manual windows? I can't believe how cheap you can buy a new car for!
Of course you could do it back in the 80's too. Unfortunately it was a Pony.:p

I took 2010 V6, tech package alone for a long ride today. It was awesome. To me, the 2009 steering was too light, no feedback, like my Camry. The 2010 steering is much better. Also, when I test drove a 2009 V6 it seemed really bouncy on bad roads, like a much lighter car might behave. At the tme i attributed it to probably too much air in the tires, though I didn't check. Anyway, the 2010 is much improved in this area too. Loved the smart cruise control -- driving in varying traffic was fun! The smart cruise control will bring the car up to a complete stop if th car in front stops. Also loved the "auto hold" feature in stop and go traffic.

Now if I could only find titanium grey with black interior...

Amazing how it's all perception isn't it? I found the steering really tight (like my Infiniti) and I found the road feel/suspension very nice.
Colour wise, I like the blue but couldn't live with a cashmere interior. Salesman says the blue are VERY hard to get.

I would like to check out cabernet red in person.

Unfortunately (for me) my two favourite colours come with the cashmere interior.

When you say "my two favourite colours come with the cashmere interior" are you referring to the blue and red you mention? If so, I'm pretty sure both of those are also available with black interior (I own a Sterling Blue with black interior).

You must be an American. :)

In Canada, each exterior colour is available with only ONE interior colour choice.

So, red and the dark blue get cashmere interior. The white gets black, IIRC. Etc.

(And our V6 cars don't get the leather dash, etc. Our 2009 V8s, at least, didn't get the ultra premium leather. Our premium V6s without tech get the base sound system instead of the 14 speaker Lexicon. etc.)

Similar situation to mine at purchase time....I wanted Black exterior, but everything was cashmere, which would work great for an older generation (imo), but for myself I wanted either black or saddle. My dealership had a Genesis shipped almost 200 miles which had black on black. Glad they were willing to go the distance and get what I wanted, even if the car was not from their dealership.

You own one very pretty car! As the other poster said, not in Canada.
