  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was using the Hyundai iphone/ipod cable with by iPhone 4, and it got fried. DOA at the Apple genius bar. I took it to a small cell phone repair guy and he is pretty sure that it was fried by an aftermarket cable or charger. The only one I have ever used is the Hyundai cable. He was able to replace the part of the phone that connects to the charging port, and put in a new battery. Alas, the wifi and 3G portions are not repairable, so now I have a 32GB, non wifi ipod!

Has this happened to anyone else? Maybe I have a bad cable?

I realize now (from this forum) that you are supposed to disconnect any devices from the cable before starting or stopping the engine. I guess that info is buried in the manual somewhere. So, my bad there, but it still seems pretty extreme that it would fry my phone.

I guess I should have RTFM - however, my iPOD is constantly plugged into the Hyundai cable - stop - start - switch mode - the works, without a single issue. My iPhone has been plugged in for extended periods also without issues.

Think it was just a bad iPhone- my 2 iPhones are always plugged in and out with the Hyundai plug. Never an issue (iPhone 3. 4, 4S)

You could possibly have a bad cable as well.

My new 2012 Gen 3.8 tech prem just blitzed my iPhone 4S dock connector. Now it thinks it's always docked. No volume controls. No speaker. The cable runs hot as ****. I smelled the burn when the circuit went. Off to the Apple store...
