I was using the Hyundai iphone/ipod cable with by iPhone 4, and it got fried. DOA at the Apple genius bar. I took it to a small cell phone repair guy and he is pretty sure that it was fried by an aftermarket cable or charger. The only one I have ever used is the Hyundai cable. He was able to replace the part of the phone that connects to the charging port, and put in a new battery. Alas, the wifi and 3G portions are not repairable, so now I have a 32GB, non wifi ipod!
Has this happened to anyone else? Maybe I have a bad cable?
I realize now (from this forum) that you are supposed to disconnect any devices from the cable before starting or stopping the engine. I guess that info is buried in the manual somewhere. So, my bad there, but it still seems pretty extreme that it would fry my phone.
