  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The GV70 Trailer Hitch Discussion

Thanks for the pics. While I really like how integrated it is, I would be getting close to max towing weight when occasionally pulling a potentially loaded 4 x 10 utility trailer. That bar past the integrated reverse lights looks rather thin, and without a certified rating/capacity, I would always be concerned that it could bend or worse, fail and cause damage or injury. It's not a risk I am willing take for aesthetics. If it had a tested rating, or if I was using it for bikes like you or a small trailer, I would be all over it.
Yeah, I plan to put some pretty heavy tongue weight on it just to test it out and I've pulled a 6'x8' utility trailer carrying concrete bags without an issue, but I wouldn't want to make any statements about it's strength without someone certifying it, which I'm not interested in doing. I certainly understand your valid thought process

I'm still in and would be willing to sign liability waver. thanks again for your assistance.

I'll check into say a run of 10 of them. Mine is just for bikes too, but I included the plate in case I pull a utility trailer. It's pretty far back and not very visible as I took that pic from like 18" off the ground. Here's a few pics showing the hitch before installation, OEM mounting points, and the backup light (with the sticker on it) which required the cutout In the hitch. And yes, it's powder coated a satin black to match the fascia instead of th usual gloss black.

What did you use to cut the plastic? It looks like a very smooth, clean cut. thanks again for your assistance with this hitch

I’ll double check whether it was a dremel or electric saw as I can’t remember right now. I filed it a little after it was cut; it was easy.

I was just quoted by my Genesis dealer $479 for the hitch $369 for labor to install the hitch, 3 hours.
Does that seem expensive?

You should consider getting an installation quote from U-Haul. Also, if you don't need the hitch right away, you can wait until the dealer has a parts coupon on their website. These pop up every once in a while. My local dealer has a 15% off coupon on their website right now, good through 3/28.

My son has done many other hitches. Says this one is "super easy. No holes need drilling"
Said he'd do it for me for 150 😁

WOW, if your son is going to charge you, you should consider getting a new kid, ha ha

Just asked my dealer. They want $600 install. "3 1/2 hours"
LOL
My son used to do this for a job. Holes are pre-drilled. 60 minutes max.
I was in the wrong profession.

Did it as Uhaul for $64 lol

I picked up my GV70 today fresh off the truck with the tow hitch installed and wired from factory. Was a nice surprise as I thought I was going to have to find one on my own after I found the vehicle.

That's great! Can you post pics from different angles, and one from a distance behind your GV? Curious to see how noticeable it is from back and sides. Thanks.

There’s pics posted at the beginning of this post ! It looks horrible !

Yes, it does look awful. You can tell minimum effort went into the design which I get, this is not a tow rig. But I needed it for my bike rack so I will just try to pretend it isn’t there.

Just ordered one (please remove me from custom interest list)
With attached and folded single One Up USA rack, hitch is invisible.
Will install myself.
$75 supplies. $50/hr garage lift rental. Dealer wanted $600 install 😂

My dealership quoted me "around $1000.-" for the labor alone to install the hitch and wiring harness... so, I installed them myself (about an hour for the hitch itself and a couple of hours for the wiring harness, at a leisurely pace). The instructions (available online) were pretty good.

Thanks for the head up. I checked it out and noticed it is the exactly the same price as the OEM hitch. The third party hitches for the GV80 are about half the price of the factory hitch.
Maybe when some other manufacturers come on line the price will come down. I have used Curt hitches for the GV and Palisaids, and SanteFe, they are well made and much lower cost than factory.
