  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This car cries out to be lowered

Has anyone put rims higher then 20's? It seems like that will make the gap become smaller....just a thought.

It actually won't because then you'll need to run a lower profile tire.

Lowering is the best way to go to get that look.

I think anything over 20' is creeping to the gaudy side of things

Your idea will change the overall diameter of the wheels, changing your transmission ratios and throwing your speedometer out of calibration. Increasing the size of the rim means you have to subtract the size of the tire. Overall wheel diameter has to be as close to stock as possible.

Especially if you have AWD!

In addition to what has been mentioned above, 22s will simply not look good, at least in my opinion. Making the car appear lower is not as simple as cramming big wheels in the wheel well. You may think that it will look better or decrease the fender gap but it won't. Please don't go with 22s. The Genesis is not a Dodge Charger or crown Vic.

Donk! Mike Jones!

Bigger wheels could also give you a harsher ride and more vulnerability to road hazards.

Thanks for the info. I wanted to know if there was a difference in getting bigger rims and same tire thread. Now that i am more knowledgeable after getting some insight on this forum, I can make a better decision.

P.S. I find it kind of funny that talking BIGGER rims gets a "Not a dodge" or "Mike Jones!" reaction but when the car is lowered nobody seems to think about "South of the border" and "Low Riders". Are we one side minded that it's ok to make changes on a Genesis based on what the majority of the people posting on this forum "Think" looks good on the Genni?

^ good point! Especially since I wish I had the budget for airbags and a spark plate. That's a legit observation.

While I agree with the premise... there is a difference between lowering the car slightly and going with a slammed or lowrider appearance. If the car is on bags that's great - it can be raised and driven comfortably with no issues.

At the end of the day its your car so do as you please - but the other side of that is that people are entitled to their opinion about your car, especially if you post it on a public forum.

In my years of modifying cars I have learned that anyone can modify a car - but not everyone should.

Use good taste for the mods that are both functional and aesthetic, and when changing parts or upgrading components always buy quality parts - don't go cheap just to get it sooner.

I've seen a good amount in my years modifying various brands and being involved in the communities for each car. People never cease to amaze.

Bags would be sweet, there is always the custom route :-)

Nobody here is lowering their Genesis to that extent... and, yes - the "slammed" look usually gets slammed here as most folks don't like it!

In general the demographic here is a bit older when compared to most forums, so keep that in mind.

I am just glad there are some other owners that are looking into modifying these cars slightly - they sure do look great!

You can put 22's on a Genesis. 2013 Hyundai Genesis R Spec at stock ride height equipped with 22" Lexani LSS 10 black machine chrome lip. Wheel and tire set up is 22x9 & 22x10 wrapped with 245-30-22 & 265-30-22 Lexani Tires.

30 Series tires provide almost no protection for the wheel.
