    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I wanted to share the reset fix that has been discovered. I did not figure it out but I think MikeC did. Anyway the below proceedure seems to work for many that have the tilt wheel memory/reduced motion problem.

As mentioned above, with the car not running, I moved the steering wheel down as far as it would go holding the switch down for around 10 seconds. Then I moved the wheel in towards the dash, also holding that down for around 10 seconds after it stopped moving. Then when I pressed 'up', it went all the way!

After starting and stopping the engine, the memory system seems to be back again. Although this is annoying, it is a lot better than needing the dealership to do it each time.

Posted by Homeofstone..I had noticed in the last week that my steering wheel was not going up as far as it use to on the exit function. Tried this and presto! all is back to normal with full motion. Thanks for this reset fix, it is soooo easy.

Posted by GenesisV8tech.....Yes, the reset procedure did the trick and the steering column now has a full range of motion. I left "easy access" feature on and the steering wheel does not seem to be creeping down the dashboard so far(one day) every time I start the vehicle. The previously remembered positions of seat and wheel are getting where they were before I pushed the stop button.

Yep! I had this problem and the reset works...What does Hyundai say about this reset? Anything else in the car "re-setable"?

By "car not running", do you mean that;

1. Everything is off, or;
2. Car is set to Acc position, or;
3. Ignition is on, even though engine is not running?

To reset do not turn on anything. Just get in car and do the reset adjustment with the steering wheel adjustment knob. as mentioned in other post. Do not push start, Do not press brake.

Thanks.

I have noticed that this reset fix works for most everyone that has tried it. Does anyone know if Hyundai has notified its dealers?

The short answer is no - Hyundai has not notified their dealers because it is not a permanent fix nor is it approved by them.

Second I have spent considerable time in correspondence, telephone, and in-person with Hyundai Executive Offices and North-East Region with no success.

My suggestion for a permanent fix is to file an official complain with National Traffic Highway Safety Administration (NTHSA) since it is a safety issue. First, the steering wheel when it drops blocks the instruments and second it hinders exiting the car which can be a serious problem in case of an accident especially for those who are restricted in agility and movement for any reason. Yes I have filed an official complaint.

California told me they have no fix and no idea of what is causing the problem, and have no timetable for developing a fix. But they recognize the problem exists and could be a safety related issue.

Here is the link to NHTSA: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/online.cfm

BTW be aware that the Regional Reps are members of this forum and post information. Some have multiple screen names so they can influence a thread. This was told to me by a Rep.

After 5 trips back to dealership maybe this can help us all and indicate to Hyundai that they need to be more responsive.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Thanks to whoever discovered this. I had the same problem and this reset worked like a charm! :D

Last night my 2012 v6 with 490 miles had the same issue where the steering wheel would not go up all the way. Just did this reset trick and it fixed it. Thanks!!

I have been reading about this since purchasing my Genesis last fall, but was hoping I would not fall prey to it......although deep down knew it was highly improbable given the pervasive nature of the problem.

I had begun to notice a reduction in range of motion and employed the fix and it worked wonderfully........much better than the alternative where the dealer replaces the steering column/module only to learn it does not solve the problem.

Almost seems tantamount to cache that has to be cleared occasionally.
For those that have been impacted, is this something you have had to employ with regularity? If so, I am curious as to the frequency......I absolutely love the car, but am surprised Hyundai has not been able to locate the "genesis" of the problem. ;-)

Again though, curious to hear from those having experienced this issue and if the fix is a continual process.

This is a temporary fix as the steering wheel will begin to creep lower after a few weeks.

I have had the car in the dealership for multiple sensor replacements, full steering column replacement, etc.

Bringing in the car again on Tuesday to see what the latest fix they have available.

Just did the reset to my 2011 4.6 with 1800 miles. Worked like a charm. Thanks to those fellow members who discovered this.

Thanks for confirming nykerk11.......if I need to reset the module every few weeks I can live with that......the alternative is as you affirm to have mulitple visits to the dealer for module and steering column replacements without any success. :eek:

I have not read anywhere in this forum where the dealer "fixes" have solved this problem, so will continue with the manual reset until confirmed otherwise. ;)

I just did this reset to my 3.8 2011 Tech/Nav and it worked, but deleted both the seating memory entries.

Since I have my wheel up kinda high normally, I forgot how far up it really travels in the Easy Access mode!

Just did the "fix" to my '11 4.6 as well and it did in fact work. To avoid resetting your seat memory, be sure the seat is in the position you prefer. Do the wheel reset then save your settings.

Just went to the dealer last week and had the latest module update for the steering wheel on my '11 4.6 sedan. So far it's holding.

I'll let you know in a week or two as this is when it typically faulters...

Just did the reset on my 2010. I was going to bring it to the dealer and decided to look here. Thanks so much.

Well, here I am again trying to reset the steering wheel to go all the way up and it will not reset. Guess the fix only works for a while. Reset worked a few times but not any more.
