  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tilt Telescopic Steering Wheel

For those of you, like me, that are still having problems with the Tilt & Telscoping on you Genesis, there is a new "Campaign" that my dealer just advised me of. It is number 12-01-001-1 and it is dated February 2012. It appears that they want to replace the Steering column tilt & telescope unit as well as the switch. My parts are ordered. I'll let you know if it works.

BTW, my Genesis also developed a problem with the driver's seat not willing to adjust. Its been happening off and on (like the steering adjust) for several months. I finally got it to the dealer when it was not working and they are going to replace the switch while they are doing the above.

I really hope they get these two issues resolved because I really like the car and its handling much better since I replaced the Dunlops with Continental DWS tires!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I have already had that campaign item updated on my Genesis and it still gives the same problem - steering wheel doesn't telescope in or go up.

I have had multiple sensors and steering columns replaced. It's amazing, I have a 2008 Veracruz Limited with the same type of tilt & telescoping and never had this issue.

I think they are just pulling fixes out of their ass at this point.

I posted earlier in this thread about our issues and figured it's time for an update. We've had problems with the tilt and drivers seat on our 2010 Genesis and have started the lemon law process. The dealership has tried to fix our seat 6 different times. They've replaced the switch multiple times, the seat pan twice, and now the seat module. We are waiting to see if the module change solves the problem but I have little faith in them that it will. I asked the dealership to have the regional repair rep from Hyundai call me the last time it was in and was told he would, when we picked up the car I was told the regional rep refused to speak to me. While we love the car, Hyundai service is a joke. Incompetent, unfriendly, and downright inconsiderate especially when you consider our vehicle has been in the shop no less than TEN times between these two problems.

Time for an update!
Well the steering wheel moves fine but now the memory will not re-adjust. Additionally the front tilt on the driver's seat is not working! Back to the dealer and I may just look into the Lemon Law in CT!

I had the tilt go dead. Telescope still worked. Not a switch this time; the dealer replaced the control module and now all is well.

The last time I had it in, they installed the campaign (not at my urging). Now the tilt adjustment works flawlessly, but whatever they did competely killed the memory function.

When 'things fix themselves', they often 'unfix themselves'. People in that thread report the problem as 'flaky'. May come and go.

I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't accept this as a 'reason'.

Sorry for 'helping'.
The switch on my eleectronic Tilt/Steering quit working altogether January 2012. I had them order the switch to replace it under Warranty. Supposedly they replaced it for when I got the car back from a service appt. for this it was working fine. Fast forward 9 months later and it's not working. I called for an appt. and they said they had on my record that the tilt/steering switch that had been ordered for me had been returned to stock because it had never been used. Hmmm. Interesting~~~ No wonder it is now not working ...again. I am suspecting they never replaced it the first time.

Hyundai Motor America policy is to tell dealers to not replace any parts under warranty unless the dealer can verify it is defective. So you may want to make sure you can demo the problem to the service writer when you bring it in.

make a video of it not working, then they cannot dispute it.

The Tilt/Steering was not working when I took it to them the first time and they received it for replacement (not repair). I had the part ordered. I suspect while working on it it suddenly worked.... I don't know. My paperwork shows it was replaced. Anyway, 9 months later I am having twins I guess because we're doing it all over for the same issue. Just happy it's still under warranty. Let all the kinks play out now.

Tech contacted Hyundai Tech Line and was instructed to replace both seat and tilt wheel modules. All seems to be working fine and now I have a little extra. When I shut off the car, not only does the steering wheel go up but now the driver's seat goes back a bit to help you exit.

We'll see what happens now.

I have been following this thread, and searched many others. I seem to have a slightly different issue than most, in the fact that my steering wheel quit going down all the way, thus making my driving position uncomfortable.

I have tried the reset procedure, and it did not help. I guess I will have the Dealer look at it during the first oil change.

I have been following this thread for awhile. Have had my 2010 3.8 in twice for same problem over the last 4 months. First time the wheel wouldn't lower all the way and they replaced a module. Second time the auto reset stopped working and I don't know what they did to fix it. This time it has stopped going down the entire way again. Took it into the sercvice manager to look at because I couldn't remember the exact bottom position but it just felt a little high. He said it was normal, so I left. The next day I came out from work, got in and it went down all the way- about 2 inches lower. Next day - limited motion again. I am waiting ti take it in again for the third time and am getting a little frustrated. Obviously, Hyundai has a problem and the service folks are in the dark.

Any update SullyC? Is it still functioning properly and saving both seat and steering wheel settings? What year, engine, and packages?

My 10' 3.8 had the tilt telescope module replaced at 18k. Previous owner had this done. Ever since I have owned it the steering wheel settings will not save like many others. Had it in for oil change and told them about the problem. Said they had seen this before but didn't know how to fix it.

For those above that have a 10' with new module and are able to save settings what engine / package do you have? I'm thinking it might have to do with the software between tech and non tech.

The dealer BS'd you. There is a TSB on the fix and its a switch and module replacement which fixes it for good.

Looks like there are two TSB's for the tilt telescope wheel problem.

First in 2011 - Hyundai: steering wheel power tilt repair procedure. 2009-2011 genesis. *rm
Second dated Jan 2012 - Summary: Steering column tilt and telesope switch removal and unit replacement. *kb

I will have to check and see which on or if both had been corrected on my car.

Just had mine done this week under warranty. Tech was able to reproduce my intermittent problem. Otherwise they would have accepted a cell-phone video of the problem.

Well I don’t want to jinx it but everything seems to be working fine. I had vowed that no matter what, I was going to keep bringing it in as soon as it happen and it must have been scared away!
My Genesis is a 2010 with the 4.6 w/o Tech.
Hope this helps!

Dealer called and said they had to update the software when the switch was installed. Taking it in on Saturday to get this done. Post results afterwards.

Software update fixed the memory settings. Now I feel like some other members that the range has been reduced. Before when you extended all the way out it would make a small popping sound and do the same when retracting after shutting car off. This sound did bug me but the range was larger in up and down positions. I can not extend the column out or down as far as I could before the software update.
