  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tire recall V6 only

FYI:

After being told by customer care my VIN wasn't on the list for new tires, today I received a letter stating that I can exchange my Hankook tires for Michelin Primacy MXM4 tires and that the Michelins have a 50,000 mile tread life warranty.

The letter says that "a small number of customers had complained about slight tire noise and vibration which may be amplified by road conditions".

Any thoughts about the Michelins?

The letter does not say how long I can wait to exchange the tires. Someone mentioned up to 3 years.

I received my letter to get the Michelins today. Purchased my 3.8 Unlimited in early September, 2014.

I purchased my 3.8 AWD on 4/15/15. My salesman claimed to know nothing about the tire recall. I have not been sent anything from Hyundai regarding any recall.

In fairness to my dealer, he was primarily a Volvo salesman, who got assigned to me, due to the dealership being busy. He was really helpful, but not overly knowledgable about the car.

Is there a place to check on our VINs with the recalls?

thanks

Folks my suggestion would be to give it a little time. If you haven't gotten your letter yet, it's likely a logistics issue, and you will. The letters are likely going out on a schedule because it takes time to roll the tires out to the dealers nationwide. If you get a letter and you call the dealer doesn't have tires, then that isn't going to make you happy. Enjoy your Hankooks a bit longer, and your letter will be arriving soon.

Although my letter did not mention the 3 year period, this is part of the response I received after contacting customer care:

"We are happy to inform you that the offer is valid for three years (through March of 2018). Once you are ready to have the tires on your Genesis replaced you may then schedule an appointment with your preferred Hyundai dealership at your earliest convenience to redeem this offer. If you do not already have a preferred Hyundai dealership, you may locate one by using either of the following methods: "

I called the customer care number and they said that as the tires become available I will get my letter. She said the tires flatten out and cause vibration and rode noise. I haven't really noticed an issue.

My dealer has ordered mine. With almost 22k on my original tires I consider the new replacements a nice gift. Hats off to Hyundai! :)

I received the letter yesterday regarding the tire replacement. I have the 2015 AWD. The two pertinent parts of the letter are 1)Hyundai will replace the Hankook tires with Michelin Primacy MXM4.

AND, 2)"...These tires are speed rated for 130 miles per hour...Please note that because the maximum speed rating is slight lower (20 miles per hour) than the original Hankook tires, we will also perform a minor update to your engine control computer, changing maximum speed of your Genesis from 150 to 130 miles per hour."

Any thoughts on the potential problems when they start messing with the computer? :(

My V6 AWD is coming in a few weeks and I'm curious to see what is coming on new cars from the factory...

Mine is leased and I just got the letter. So, yes.

I got my letter two days ago from Hyundai notifying me they are replacing the Hankook with Michelin MXM4 Tires. They did point out the maximum speed rating on the Michelins is lower than the Hankooks so at the same time they replace the tires they will adjust the engine computer so that the top speed is lowered from 150 mph to 130 mph.

I just got my letter as well. Are a lot of you doing this. I looked up reviews on the Michelin's and they are not the best tire. Was hoping Hyundai would have picked a better tire. I have not had many issues with the Hankooks and can live with the little flat spotting for the first few miles if the car sits.

with about 2k miles on mine and summer weather nearing, I am not sure I will be rushing out to do this. Not thrilled with the adjustments being done to the engine either. Just seems like more potential issues. I haven't gotten a letter yet FYI.

I plan to do it. The suspension on the Genesis is so good that the flat-spotting vibration is minimized, but even my wife notices it (her car), and she is not a car aficionado in any way.

The TireRack test (admittedly old) had the tire as #1 of the 4 tires tested. That's good enough for me. And they are great in the wet, which is a requirement for me in Houston.
It's an optional switch offered by Hyundai, which makes it nice. Each can make his or her own decision.

if this was for safety reasons then all sizes of the tire would be recalled, I have this same exact tire for my spring/summer wheels, I've received nothing from tirerack or hankook saying the 20' size is being recalled, also looked on hankook website, nothing
