If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,
I have a 2009 Genesis non-tech package. I am having a very weird issue with my car. I get TPMS sign come on multiple occasions in the panel even if the tire pressures are good>33lbs. It happens only when the car lights are on( driving in dark or in early morning). Its not related to weather as it happens on both warm and cool days. I have started noticing few months after I replaced the lights with aftermarket HIDS at my dealership. The TPMS come on after about 20-25 mins of driving the car with the lights on. It never...never...happens with the lights off.
I took it to the dealership 3 times for this reason and they always reset the sensor and assure me that it will not happen again.... but it keeps coming back.
I am thinking this gotta be some TPMS frequency problem with the HID lights.
Any techie or electrical guru would help me...I want to take it to the dealer soon and will ask him to do what you guys tell me here as the dealer has no clue....

I think there is a TSB for this issue. It is related to the lights as I recall.

What is a TSB? Where can I find it?
Thanks

All manufacturers issue TSBs , Technical Service Bulletins, your dealer will have the detail information or you can sign up on line here http://www.hmaservice.com/

Eureka! This happened to my 09 Genesis Non-tech package after I installed a set of HID headlights. TPMS light came on. . . hence I suspected the new HID assembly emitting unwanted Radio Frequency (RFI) and being picked-up and interfering with the TPMS sensors. I removed the HID ballasts and because I did not have an electromagnetic Interference (EMI) copper tape at the time, I used a food grade aluminum foil folded five times, I inserted a bare wire between the layers and grounded it. Re-installed the whole HID ballast and VOILA! no more TPMS light. . . . You can buy the copper foil tape on ebay or try the aluminum foil trick. I can not guarantee the result since there are many brands of HID kits out there. Give it a try and let us know Good Luck!

HID ballasts may put out a radio frequency interference that the vehicle's TPMS system detects. If the TPMS system receives a continual radio frequency interference for 20 minutes of driving, the 'TPMS' light will turn on. The 'TPMS' light is the TPMS malfunction indicator. It is not the low pressure light that comes on when you have a low tire.

As Solano stated you can eliminate/reduce the RFI by shielding the ballast. A metal or foil shield around the ballast which is grounded. This is very simple, cheap and effective. After wrapping the ballast in foil with a ground wire inserted you can cover it with black electrical tape to clean it up and the ballast can be mounted wherever you want.

You can also purchase an EMC filter and plug it inline with the power to the ballast. The EMC filter is sold/marketed as a noise reduction filter if you have a buzzing noise in your radio because of HIDs or to solve some vehicle's flickering problems. Some HIDs come with an EMC filter attached.

Another option is to mount the ballast in a different location. I noticed the further forward you mount the ballast away from the wheel, the less likely you will have this issue.

I also noticed the left side ballast seems to be the primary cause that the TPMS malfunction indicator illuminates.

I hope this information helps someone who may be experiencing this issue.

That explains a lot. Thank you

Just installed a HID kit and came across this per user scottdk. I will try the copper foil technique.

Edit... Noticed the TPMS light only comes on after 20 min of driving with cruise control on.

Too funny. I just installed my HID kit and had the TPMS light on my way to work this morning. Googled "Genesis sedan TPMS light" and this is the first hit that appears. Gotta love search engines.

Have you figured our a way to successfully make the TPMS light go away?

It could just be coincidence, the TPMS might be a separate issue..
Have your TPMS electronics tested by your dealer.....;)

I am having this same issue.
Do we all have 35W ballasts too?
did the foil wrapping and grounding fix the problem?

Try inflating your tires to 40psi then back down to 1 or 2 lbs. over cold pressure for the tires. Do this when tires are cold and have only been driven for 2 miles or so. Make sure you use an accurate tire pressure gauge.
