If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. My local Hyundai service manager called me today to follow up with a reoccurring problem with the amber TPMS light illuminating randomly on my 09 V8 base model (which many of you have stated happens to you as well). It's been a electrical Gremlin that the company has been aware of but could not figure out. He told me that they may have found a solution. He stated that according to the Genesis technicians, they think there is interference from the headlight assembly and the TPMS receiver. He stated that the company has approved replacement of the headlight assembly, and to bring the car in. He said he needs the car for 3 days. An afternoon to change the headlight assembly and 2 days to run diagnostics on the car. I'm not really keen on leaving the car there for 3 days, but I'd rather handle this issue then be annoyed every time the stupid light comes on. You guys may want to ask your service managers if they've heard anything about this fix.

3 days to remove and replace a headlight assembly and then do some diagnostics . Sounds to me like a "fishing expedition"...and that they don't have a clue what the problem is. I hope they are going to give you a Genny loaner car while your's is in the shop.

Do you have the H.I.D.'s? They might be thinking the ballasts are causing radio interference.

The headlight assembly only needs a few hours to replace. They need the car for 2 more days to drive to see if the problem manifests again. I didn't ask for a loaner, since I live so close to the dealer, but I may do that. This dealer has fished around this car 3 times for the TPMS problem, and gotten the field technicians involved.

Couldn't you drive it yourself and see if the problem manifests itself again? I don't like the idea of the dealer having an excuse to put miles on my car. There is a good chance it will be used for all kinds of trips by all kinds of people, under the guise of testing.

I thought about that. I think they want to avoid me having to go back there again and getting all PO'd if the problem resurfaces. You make a valid point. I really don't like the idea of keeping the thing there overnight.

I've been reading this thread with interest because I'm having the same issue.
Thanks for the heads up on the HID's. I started having the TPMS problem on the very day I installed the HID lights and never connected the two. I always run with headlights on, so ran a few tests this morning. Had to make a 50 mile drive early this AM and with the lights on I got the TPMS light after about 10 minutes. On the return trip, I started with headlights on until TPMS light came on. Stopped the car, turned the lights off and continued the trip..no TPMS light. Made a couple short runs without headlights and the TPMS light has yet to come back on. Have another 50 mile trip to make this afternoon so will run the same test again, but really think you hit on the problem I've been having.
Maybe this is the same problem TJPark01 is having...

Come to think of it, our TPMS has been going off and we installed HIDs....but I haven't tried turning the lights on and off to see how that effects it.

It could be airborn radio interference, in which case the solution would be to create a screen to block the signal (maybe aluminum foil.) Or it could be interference over the electrical circuit in which case you'd want a filter...a large enough capacitor inline with the light circuit. Maybe something as simple as one of those inductive filters (iron magnets that go around wiring) would help. They probably sell them at RadioShack.

After running several more tests this afternoon I have confirmed the HID's are in fact causing the TPMS light to come on.

I'll be trying a few clamp on ferrite cores to see if they will reduce the switcher power supply and arc lamp noise on the 12v lines. If that doesn't help, then some sort of RF bypassing and shielding will be in order. At least I know for sure there's no problem with the TPMS system.

BTW Disaster...try www.radiodan.com for your ferrite cores WAY cheaper than Rat shack...

Would you by chance be using digital or analog ballasts? I ask because when HID first became available as aftermarket to the public, the ballasts were analog and caused many problems such as radio interference, alternator noise heard through the speakers, and flickering headlight(s) and so on.

Most kits use digital ballasts these days, but there are still companies selling analong kits.

I have a 3.8 Premium package, and after installing the low beam HID from DDM, my TPMS light comes on when the low beams are turned on. I'm sure the HID ballast are sending out "dirty" RF signals interfering with the TPMS pick-up sensors.

TSB says, it comes on for some reasons, including when the car is around high RF emitters and also when the TPMS pick-up sensors aren't getting any signals from the tire press sensors after 25 minutes of driving over 12MPH.

My TPMS light doesn't come on if I don't turn on the low beams. Only when the headlights are on (couldn't try just the fog lights) Therefore I'm sure it is my newly DDM made HID kit that causing my problem.

I converted both the low beams and fog lights into HID (DDM made) at the same time, so I have two 35W HID made by DDM. However, the two ballasts looked different. (digital compact HID ballast).

This coming weekend, I'll remove the low beam HID ballast and use the ballast from the fog light and check if that too, makes the TPMS come on.

I'm hoping the second ballast would not trigger the TPMS light. Otherwise, I need some input from anyone who has converted into HID and shows no signs of problem. I would like to know what brand they used for their HID conversion. BTW, on the low beams, I stuff the ballast and wiring inside the headlight housing, away from the TPMS pick-up sensors.

I don't mind spending money on a pricey HID kit, as long as it does not cause any headache on my part. I may now be down for two HID kits but don't mind spending more $$$ on something that I know works well.

I have the factory HID headlights, but did install an HID kit into the fog lights as well as HID headlights in a number other friends cars (all with TPMS) and no problems.

HID kits from Diodedynamics a vendor on this site.

Thanks for the info on diodedynamics. I'll visit their website.

I had installed 35W HID DDM on my Scion TC, and had not had problem with TPMS light.

deltarat, have you had any success with the magnet as EMI filter?

You might try slipping on a set of ferrite cores over the power wires up close to the ballasts and if they have a ground wire put it in the core also. Just might choke off the HF hash coming back from the ballasts.

Well I just put my OEM tires back on for the summer. Over the winter I purchased a set of wheels from Ebay and a set of tires from discounttire.com along with the TPMS sensor. I had the amber light lit up all the time during the winter but now that I've switched back for the summer everything is working great.

I must have a faulty sensor or something from discounttire.com.... bummer.

I recall reading that one should "recalibrate" the sensors when switching them. I didn't have any errors when I first switched but later they developed. I suspect they will go away too, when the 3 season tires go back on.

Perhaps, next winter, I'll have the winter wheels calibrated.

Just had both headlight assemblies replaced, under warranty. Hyundai tech told the dealer to swap them out because they could be interfering with the TPMS radio signal. So far so good. I'll let you guys know if the light gets tripped again. The light is annoying but I'm almost numb to it at this point.

This weekend I test drove a 2010 V8 with Tech. It just arrived off the truck and had very few miles on it. I checked the tire pressures which read 36 and set all of them to 33. After getting into the car before taking off, the TPMS was on. The tire gauge I used is accurate as I use it on all my cars. After driving for almost 30 minutes, the TPMS light remained on. What's up with that?

tough to say, these things have a mind of their own.
