If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ultimate Package and Text Message Reading

  1. Siri Eyes free READ the message to you via blue tooth = prior to update
  2. View the Messages on the screen while in park = part of 12.5 update.

don't know when #1 was added, so if you have version 10.XX or earlier, it might not be there, I had version 11.XX when my 2018 was purchased and it was there, updated by dealer to 12.0 and it was there, updated to 12.5 and got the text/messages on screen option.

I just now ordered the 12.5 update for my 2016 Ultimate. I'm not exactly sure which version of maps I currently have, as it's only listed as 08.41.52.591.001 in my display details.

Last month I did a 2,200 mile road trip using the OEM system and for the most part I liked the way it worked. Big screen is clear and the exit detail visual in nice. I also ran Waze on my iPhone 8 tucked the cup holder during the trip. That was more helpful on the open road but annoying if not muted in cities with overlapping navigation instructions. Wish someone had a workaround for CP on the Ultimate - maybe an Aux adapter hack?

Having come out of an '18 Audi S5 Sportback with CP, I was looking forward to updating to CP again as my pre-purchase research lead me to believe Hyundai was going to provide a path for updating to CP, but alas the nuance of head unit differences between trim packages was lost on me prior to purchase. I was annoyed at first, but really haven't missed CP as much I was supposing would be the case.

Texting is the one CP function I miss most. I've been using Siri Eyes, but it is clunky and VR dictation is far more challenging with the Genesis. I cannot get to Siri by using VR button on the wheel, but can if I hit the home button on my phone, so I have been able to do limited texting in that way, but it's a far from ideal - but then so was the Audi having a non-touch screen as the CP user experience seems better suited to a touch screen.

I am somewhat confused on the #1 and #2 list above. Does this mean that once updated to 12.5 I will no longer have the same VR text read/dictation capabilities while driving and will now have to be parked to text? I was hoping the VR steering wheel button would add the text functions. I can understand not viewing the messages while driving for safety sake, but will I still be able to have the messages read to me?

Additional point of confusion: I read people raving here about split screen display of radio and map, but I am stumped to find any setting for this on the Ultimate. Is this a function that is only found on the smaller screen head units?

#2 is in addition to #1.

for Siri Eyes Only, at least on my 2018 it's one quick touch, and for the Genesis VR it is a long press. same button, and it works flawlessly.

split screen is on the G90 only.

Thank you for the clarification. I'll have to play with a long press later. Pitty the split screen is G90 only if it is basically the same head unit. Could it possibly be something located in a hidden menu and enabled there?

same head unit, not same screen, the G90 screen is 12.5" vs. 9" it is a space and resolution issue.

Kind of like trying to watch a widescreen movie with a 16:9 ratio on a square screen from the 1990s that has a 4:3 ratio, if you catch my meaning. It can be done, but would look ugly and unreadable.

For my 2016, it's the opposite. Siri eyes- long touch on the voice button. Genesis text-quick touch.

carplay might have something to do with that.. Thanks for the info.

Interesting - thank you. Not sure what thread I was reading that, but completely missed any association with a G90. I took a look at a YouTube video of the G90 navigation system; enviable added screen size, almost as large as my Audi virtual cockpit screen, which I liked at first but ended up not always using as I ultimately found it distracting and was disappointed to learn Audi will not be able to support Google earth maps for this '18 vehicle after 2020.

Forgot to add: I tried the long press and was able to get at Siri Eyes from the steering wheel VR button.

I think the split screen reference was from this thread from 2016 that recently got bumped up. And it looks like it was for a 2015 3.8. Maybe it was a feature that no longer is offered after updates?

Thanks for the link. I had thought is was a DH platform being referenced. Looks like both the '15 3.8 and 5.0 vehicles had this, but it wasn't clear this was non-Ultimate infotainment trims only. As Mr. I mentioned, there are aspect ratio considerations that may limit the split function optimization to a given screen size, but I do wonder if a software setting could possibly be enabled on a hidden menu?

Another route might be adding a mirroring device to add CP capability. Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze for me (i.e. cost/benefit), but when I was considering a last gen Audi RS5 that had a more basic infotainment system (pre-CP) I found an Aussie company that had a device that plugged itself in to the OEM wiring. Looked like a neat solution but never researched it in depth. See: http://www.naviplus.com.au/ . Along the same lines I've seen another company that has a product for the DH, but mixed reviews on the company's service and products high cost cools me to their solution. If curious: NAVTOOL INC and NAVTOOL INC .

The Audi online forums are bigger than ours and seemed to have a lot more computer geeks that explored beneath the covers for hacks. The ease of access provided by tools like OBDeleven (see: https://obdeleven.com/en/ ) opened the hacking process to everyone. People were able to enable functionality that was part of higher trim packages and tweak preferences/settings to a greater degree. I have yet to find such a tool for the DH cars, but would be very interested if such a tool did exist.

Navtool has been around since the early 2000s making these. There is also Lockpick and Nav-Tv, which make interfaces for various makes/models. all of them are very pricey.

as for the 8" with a map and music screen side by side. never seen it, maybe it exists, but I've never seen that functionality on any make/model with less than a 10" screen, and usually the screens are 12.5" plus, because of the real estate required for both to be clearly visible side by side.

I can't see it being visually functional on an 8" screen.. and I can't find any images of it anywhere., thought googling radio/nav side by side shows a lot of images and all are 12" or bigger screens.

me personally, I could care less, I only have the map up when I need it, only have the radio up when I need it, and under normal driving I blank the screen. I am highly adverse to any distractions while I drive. My first wife was killed 20 days after our wedding by a drunk driver, and I equate distracted driving like texting and playing with the GPS on the same level.

Wow. I can only imagine that such a tragic personal event would permanently alter your view on distracted driving. For my part, I do try to be mindful of minimizing the numbers distractions, which is one reason I'm keen on the HUD display and its part in keeping my eyes on the road.

As for splitting an 8" screen, I had a Ford Focus rental car months back with a Sony Sync 3 system that offered an 8" split screen option. It wasn't perfect but was surprisingly handy.

I did turn up a thread here on the split screen for non-Ultimate trim package cars. See: split screen?

Maybe some here with a non-Ultimate can check it out. Here was an instruction set from that thread:

"Have your radio on with the fm or whatever display on the screen. Turn off the radio by pushing in the volume knob. It will go split screen. Now just turn the radio back on. "

I was able to find an image with the Genesis split screen displayed. Here is what that looks like:

split screen for driving directions and map I know about and we have that on the 9.2" ,it splits to show you the turn by turn. . That is how I have mine set if I use it. which as stated, is seldom.

split screen for the map and radio is news to me. never seen it on any car with a small screen, and that focus makes the map look basically useless.

It's all relative. Sort of like the supersizing of cell phones, you get used to what you have and don't know something is 'useless' if that is what you are used. I have a friend still on an iPhone 5 that doesn't see a need for a bigger screen, but others would find its screen way too small relative to what they've become accustomed to using. Consider also how many people only use a phone for navigation - not to mention the thousands over Uber drivers navigating for a living off their cellphones. I have no issue using my iPhone 8 for running Waze in conjunction with the OEM navigation system. Different strokes; your safety consideration not withstanding.

My Audi had their virtual cockpit that was an over 12" configurable digital dashboard. You could make the entire gauge cluster a map and have the tach and speedo displayed as either two small traditional gauges floating in the corners. The fascination with that view was short lived for me as it was distracting and awkward placement of a an over-sized map for me - plus you had a duplicate map (if you chose) that could be displayed on the dash mounted 'tablet' display. I would often use the enter display for CarPlay and make the map a one third section on the left side of the center tach/speed single gauge option. It would be fair to say the temptation for distraction was great with the Audi system.

Audi is moving to a new dual center console display setup for their latest infotainment system, in addition to their their virtual cockpit screen.

Ram is offering a 12" iPad-ish display with their highest end infotainment system that offers an impressive map or split screen version on that same center screen.

I have little doubt that the coming Gen3 Genesis DH replacement will offer something similarly over-the-top. This is simply too big a trend and too large a selling point for car makers to ignore.
