USA Deposits Available in CT, NY, NJ and CA

Interesting point re: marketing.

I think Genesis is focusing on luxury, design, and driving experience in the path to building their brand. The tech is there - face recognition, for example - but not central. Plus that, pure tech is hard to market. Too much explaining is needed for most customers ( who are not like the people who hang in forums). Apart from explaining the tech, marketing must explain why it matters when the choice is BMW or Genesis.

In the end, Genesis desires brand parity with BMW, MB, Audi, and Porsche. That is built around driving experience and prestige.

Also, FWIW I'm not particularly impressed with Tesla autopilot (and am appalled at their dev attitude for FSD). That said, it seems fine and is quite competitive now. They have the important experience of implementing these systems for many years now.

I do not consider Tesla to be an AI technology leader in the larger picture. The lead they have now (if any) will likely diminish. The input handling, modeling, and decision making (predictive systems) is well within the grasp of others (like nVidia, Google, MSFT, ...). There is no secret software sauce - system reliability, execution speed, and especially the capacity to recognize and handle edge cases is central to the next gen level 3+ systems. OTA will allow others to push new models to improve systems just as Tesla does. Big groups are potentially well-placed when working with the right partners because of their large-scale systems integration experience.

Re: the AI and systems integration experience comment, Hyundai is very well placed to be amongst the leaders in autonomy. Their hardware/software partner is nVidia (which is also the partner for other luxury car manufacturers) and they are making strategic bets on connected and autonomous systems. For example, they have controlling interest in Boston Dynamics. So, Hyundai has robots that do back flips and scary looking robo-dogs. Tesla has some guy that mimes in a latex suit. Place your bets!
 
Has anyone gotten any updates from their Concierge? In light of the rumor that tomorrow US reviews will be published, I called Genesis today for an update. They told me nothing new to report at this time. This is getting pretty frustrating considering when I first signed up I was told the process would unfold in the next couple of months with regular updates from them. but so far they’ve never contacted me first, I’m always the one reaching out.

Motor1 review confirming US pricing:
Prices for the 2023 GV60 start at $59,980, including the $1,090 destination charge and excluding any federal income-tax credits or state/local incentives. That base (for now) model, the Advanced AWD, is generously equipped with Genesis’ latest active safety system, heated and ventilated front seats, a Bang and Olufsen audio system, a head-up display, and 12.3-inch display pairing. The GV60 is more expensive than a loaded, dual-motor Ioniq 5 ($57,245) or EV6 ($57,155), but the difference is negligible, especially considering the available performance and hugely upgraded interior.

The GV60 Performance I tested, meanwhile, costs $68,980, or $9,000 more than the base. The nearest competitor in terms of EV performance is the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, which is more affordable at $63,095 (including destination) to start. You can add a hands-free driver aid and you’ll find a sportier ride in the Mach-E, but finding Ford’s all electric might be a bigger challenge than getting your hands on a GV60 (which is also inarguably more comfortable and premium feeling).

Many of these are either unsurprising or confirm what's mentioned in the owner's manual. Still, there's also really good news here: the heat pump, battery heater, acoustically-treated windows, and HUD.

Two items from the original Priority One list weren't included:
  • Driver's Seat Power Cushion Extension: This is listed in the owner's manual near the power lumbar, but ahead of the Ergo Motion features (which are definitely Performance-only).
  • Heated Power Tilt & Telescopic Steering Wheel: Changed to "Heated Steering Wheel" in the press release; however, the owner's manual implies tilt/telescope are standard.
The only thing which really annoys me is heated rear seats not being standard - certainly not enough to make me take those 21-inch Performance wheels!

I also ran through the USA configurator once and didn't see anything conflicting. My desired exterior color, Hanauma Mint, costs $575 extra.

Yep, this is the most discombobulated “reservation” process I’ve ever experienced for any product ever. Their advertised “priority” is entirely disconnected from reality, with zero actual process implemented for its customers.

The Cadillac Lyriq is FAR worse, they have zero idea what is going on and the dealers are clueless. Nice looking SUV though...

I agree it hasn’t been great, I think they just needed to be honest and communicated a little better up front regarding the program. The Concierges for their credit probably didn’t have a whole lot of information to go off of but they definitely made it sound like a quicker process than how it is currently unfolding. Additionally, I’ve been calling and calling - including a day before the announcements on pricing - and was told they’d reach out with new info. In the end, I found out the info the same way and at same time as everyone else did yesterday. So the Priority One should’ve been explained more as a pre-order, in advance of general public, rather than some exclusive customer service heavy experience. All we really got was a spot closer to the front of the line (over those who just placed orders yesterday). With those expectations in mind it wouldn’t have seemed like such a bungled process.

I got another email yesterday from Priority One basically just re-summarizing the information released to general public earlier in the day. It did mention they’d be arriving soon to dealerships so my guess is by mid-June we will be very close.
 
Just spoke to a Concierge rep. Perhaps anecdotal, (and forgive me if this already common knowledge) but he told me there were only 200 total GV60s for the original preorders and that cars rolling out afterwards would be offered to those who sign up for more info.

This is actually very helpful, thank you. It’s strange how depending on who you speak with you get different info. Or perhaps you are just more persuasive than I am lol. All the Concierge told me was that they know nothing new at this moment other than “cars haven’t arrived yet but will soon” and they couldn’t provide a timeline. Said we “lucky” Priority One members will be reached out to soon. And that some dealerships already have the allocation list.

So based on what the Concierge told you, do you get the impression that they only took 200 Priority One deposits and those translates to actual production? Or that some people in Priority One will be SOL?

I think the P1 list should be protected since they took down the P1 signups within like 5 days of opening due to demand. Otherwise what's the point of asking people to put down deposit commitments if they are just gonna be treated like the rest.
 
I'd have to imagine P1 orders are taken care of, but who knows. One thing is for sure, this is gonna be a drip-feed for GV60s for the foreseeable future. I'm going to likely purchase an Ioniq 5 because they seem to be more available sooner and then trade up to a GV60 when one's available.

Funny thing is... the Lyriq has been the SMOOTHEST EV ordering process I've had. Paid $100 and dealer contacted me asking my config and order submitted. They even guaranteed MSRP (that's their dealer policy).

If the Genesis ordering process is anything like the Ioniq 5 one - it will be useless. Might as well contact dealers directly and fork up the markup.

I guess it is dealer dependent. With the lack of consumer/media interaction and the production delays, I will be shocked if half the debut editions get shipped this year.
 
Went to see my local dealer today, was told they are expecting shipments by the end of summer. By shipments they said they also expect to receive 2-4 at a time. Was then redirected across the dealership to a used Kona EV which the salesman said "It's just like a gv60 expect you can get it now." Not accepting deposits, was told they'll let me know when the first shipment comes but was also told to expect a minimum markup of 10k! Seems like they'll sell to the highest bidder

Did you sign up during Priority One? Or is the dealer referring to non-priority one orders?

This is the first I'm hearing of many of these things, so still take this information with a grain of salt. That said, if anyone else has also been hearing any of this, I'd be inclined to give it more credence.

This is what I gathered from the call (note: this is just per this one conversation and not necessarily accurate - needs to be corroborated):
How Priority One Orders Will Work:
  • A bunch of vehicles have been dispatched to the states (as we already know - I think he was referring to the vehicles that just arrived at port).
  • The distribution of type, colors, etc. should roughly match what people ordered in Priority One
  • These vehicles will be assigned and shipped to dealers (don't know which yet). Once the assignment happens Priority One will reach out to all of us to tell us which dealers to talk to.
  • Now, here's the big insight (again, only based on what this dude told me but is basically verbatim): Dealers will then be told to sell first to any Priority One holders assigned to them. Then, after all Priority One holders have had a chance to order, dealers will then be allowed to sell remaining vehicles to their own waitlists. Though I couldn't get him to answer with a direct "yes", it sounded very much like if you got a slot in Priority One, you'll have the opportunity to get a car from this first batch.
  • All the cars in this first batch are Model Year 2022 not MY2023 (this becomes relevant below) and essentially "equivalent to the EU spec models just with gauges that read in miles instead of kilometers, etc.".

Insight on Some Features:
There are a couple of features that, coming from a Mercedes GLB, I've become very accustomed to on long road-trips and wanted to know more about. Here's what I found out:
  1. HDA-2: Not going to be on the first batch of cars. Chip shortage. Who knows when it will be back but it might be a while. Could be back for 2023MY?
  2. Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control [N-SCC] (the thing where cruise control slows you down in corners when using SCC - I've found this greatly increases the car's competency in long road trips on my GLB): "maybe?" he didn't seem sure but this is where he brought up that the cars will match the EU spec vehicles which I do believe have it. Also, I've seen some videos from the press event in the US that seem to show the corresponding setting (it's listed as part of "Highway Auto-Speed Change" on other Genesis vehicles). All of this is to say: 🤷
  3. Augmented Reality Navigation: I brought up that it exists on the GV60 in other markets and that it also exists on the GV80 etc in other markets but didn't come to the US for those cars (I know this is a sore spot for some). Wanted to know if it would come to the US with the GV60. He said that: "It won't be on the MY22 cars but will be coming with the MY23 cars ... which will have orders starting around Q3 of this year." He also mentioned that it's his understanding that this is not just a SW difference but also a HW difference; so, they unfortunately likely won't be able to do a SW update to give AR nav to the 22MY vehicles when it comes out in the US.
Lastly, he restated that Genesis' priority is getting all MY22 cars out in the US as fast as possible before opening MY23 orders (idk if this is true but that's what I got).

Personally, I can live without most of these (N-SCC would be more important than the rest). Might grab a Priority One when it's available and then trade up to a MY23 whenever those are available since it doesn't seem like the car will lose that much value over the intervening months and I think the federal tax credit will apply to both (so long as Hyundai/Kia doesn't run out of their 200k by then).

That's a bummer. I was really looking forward to some of those tech items like HDA2 and AR nav.
