In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I recently purchased a 2013 Genesis Basic Model. I also have Samsung Galaxy S3 phone. It seems phone syncs with the car no problem.

When streaming bluetooth music (mp3 collection in my phone) from my phone I have no control of whether to start or change music selection via the car. Once sync is completed, I have to go to my phone and press play on the music app to get the music started and if I want to move to next song I have to do it on the phone. I can't do it with Genesis stereo or steering wheel control buttons.

My previous Mazda was with bluetooth was able to play and change songs via cars stereo or steering wheels control. Is Genesis really not having this capability or am I not understanding how it works?

Would appreciate any info on this. TIA.

13 r-spec/iphone 5....I can control track, next track etc from the steering wheel via Bluetooth

I wonder if this issue is limited to base model with base stereo? Anybody with 2012+ base model can chime in if they can control bluetooth music via stereo button or steering wheel controls?

So I took my car to Service Department at my Hyundai dealer about my question on ability to control bluetooth with stereo or steering wheel buttons and they tell me Genesis does not have that abillity?

I can't believe my $35k+ car does not have bluetooth ability my old Mazda had at half the price.

If my hyundai dealer is correct, I am really disappointed in Hyundai for this oversight.

Did they confirm that there is a difference between the r-spec and the base model? Seems odd that there would be a difference in how the Bluetooth operates.

No, they did not tell me about difference between r-spec or base model. They just told me Genesis did not have this ability.

It could be they just did not know and did not want to find out. The service writer said, he talked to his bluetooth "expert" at the dealership.

It could be all BS...

Can anybody here with base 2012+ model confirm what my dealership said is true?

Interesting,

On my 13 Genny with Tech+Premium both Spotify and IHeart radio on my android phone stream with no issues. I'm able to control volume + next/prev track, pause etc. The only thing it doesn't seem to control is ff/rev within a song nor will it display track names/artists etc.

So your post confirms that upgraded stereo with Nav have no issue with controlling bluetooth. I think the base stereo should have same functionality but dealer says no and I can't get anyone to confirm this info on the base model. If I can get confirmation from someone here then maybe I can go back to dealer and tell them to fix the issue.

I have a 2013 R-Spec and a Galaxy S3 phone and they work together like this:

  • The GS3 automatically connects and syncs when I get in the car and start up. Music starts playing as soon as I select Bluetooth Audio with the DIS knob.
  • I can control volume up/down and previous/next track via the round button on the steering wheel. I can also pause/restart via the DIS knob. The display shows track name, artist name and phone name.
Personally, I prefer to use USB audio. I have a 64 GB USB drive that I keep in the USB port. I remove it only to add more music to it. It currently has about 40 GB of (full album) MP3s on it. Most of the MP3s are high quality VBR. I like to use the Auto Playlist in the menu. It uses the Gracenote service to create an 18 track playlist of songs that are similar in style to the one playing when you select the Auto Playlist function.

My 2013 Premium package head unit also allows for control of android-based phone's audio via Bluetooth. What it won't do is make Bluetooth audio sound good. Don't know about y'all, but to my ears the Bluetooth audio has some serious issues.

When I want to listen to what's on my phone I use an audio cable out the phone's headphone jack. Mostly, though, I just listen to what's on my USB drive. The amp and speakers in this car deserve a good feed.

Sacchoe,

I have a 2010 base model. The car will not stream bluetooth from a phone at all. While your situation is not what you want, it appears that Hyundai has made an improvement to the 2013 base model. I am interested how you have your model stream via bluetooth. My phone does allow phone calls but not streaming.

It is my understanding that 2012+ base models are able to stream bluetooth as my 2013 does. However, it only streams and no other controls are possible unless you have the upgraded package or the V-8 models with upgraded stereo.

my 2010 4.6 with touchscreen nav allows control of whats being streamed through bluetooth.

Hi ghicks99, while I am able to pair my Samsung Galaxy S5 with my 2010 Genesis 4.6, I am only able to make and receive phone calls. When I play music, and select "listen via bluetooth", nothing happens and the sound does not come across the Lexicon system. How do you stream your music?

Thank you!

I use [ame="http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CAYAIL0/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"] HTC Bluetooth Music Streaming Stereo Clip Adapter [/ame] in my 2011 4.6. I connect phone to car and audio to this device. works well.

To make this a little easier, please specify the car spec.

For clarification and summarizing the various threads in this forum that I have come across over the years;

None touch screen (TECH model with DIS/Wheel control):

2009 3.8/4.6 can only make phone calls.
2010-2012 3.8/4.6/R-Spec - can only make phone calls.
2013 - 2014 3.8/R-Spec - Can make phone calls (with full iOS call history/contacts integration) / stream music with steering wheel control.

[EDIT] For 2009 - 2012 TECH, there are few apps that can send music as a phone call via blue tooth, but it sounds terrible. the answer becomes use the USB cable (if you would like to control your music library) or get a Bluetooth receiver audio jack.

Touch Screen (Premium models):

2010-2011 3.8/4.6 - Can make phone calls / stream music with limited number of phones being able to be controlled by steering wheel control (due to blue tooth compatibility) .
2012-3.8/4.6/5.0 - - Can make phone calls / stream music with most phones being able to be controlled by steering wheel control (due to blue tooth compatibility).
2013-2014 3.8 Can make phone calls / stream music with most phones being able to be controlled by steering wheel control (due to blue tooth compatibility).

Your mileage may vary, so please feel free to correct as necessary..

I have the 2009 Genesis 4.8 tech package, and I just purchased an android phone. I like to listen to podcasts (with my previous iPhone). You said use the USB cable. (Right now I have an Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter. Will adding a lightning to USB-C adapter, & connect to the android work?

I have the 2013 base model, and I can confirm that while using Bluetooth to stream music and podcasts, you can only control the volume from the steering wheel. All other functions must be done via the phone.

I have an iPhone and while it says I can download my contacts in the owners manual, I have been unsuccessful in doing so. I have not tried using the audio cable to connect the phone with the unit (haven't bought one yet) maybe this would make things easier?

Overall I agree with you that for a luxury car the stereo/Bluetooth is substandard. You shouldn't have to have tech or premium pkg to have those functions available. The other problem is the lack of aftermarket options to replace the stock head unit.
