If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have been researching new cars for a while and am sold on the Genesis. I have also been looking at the Lexus E350, GS350 Infiniti M, and Mercedes E 350. I am quite possibly going to pull the trigger tomorrow if the dealer makes the numbers work for me.

As I mentioned, I am sold on the Genesis, but am still trying to decide between the V6 or V8. I test drove the V6 the other day and it was good enough. I have not yet driven the 8.

The dealer I am working with does not have the exact car I want in the V6, but has it in stock with the V8.

My question is to the owners of the V8. Are you glad you spent the extra money and got the V8? What is your fuel economy like?

To the V6 owners. Do you regret not getting the V8? Do you feel underpowered in any way/situation?

Also, I was told by the salesman that the suspension has been upgraded for the 2010 model. Is this true?

Anyway, great site. Thanks for the wealth of information.

I drove both the V6 and V8 and purchased the V8. The extra power is very noticable, though you do suffer a bit on the gas mileage (which I am willing to deal with). I like the wheels on the V8 more and the little extra chrome on the sides was a nice touch. I have a tech package and for the extra 2k or so it was worth it FOR ME. The V6 at nearly 300 horses is no slouch and I am sure is enough power. I just like the pull of the V8 up to and into triple digits .

In regards to the suspension, that is a very hot topic still and really boils down to what YOU think, not someone else, I personally have no problems with mine. Some have said they noticed a difference from '09 to '10 some have said they noticed no difference...hence it's what you think.

Either way you'll be happy.

Ohhh, and welcome to the forums.

I own an 09 V8, I wanted the tech package so the v8 was 2k extra (usd) , very happy to spend 2k for an extra 75 HP , limited slip rear (not available in v6) and a few other goodies...
I also like having the "top" engine available, just a preference....
Fuel economy for 15k miles so far is 24.3 , mostly highway with cruise set at 75.

I drive the V6 and didn't have to make a choice as the V8 was not available when I leased. But I'll face that decision about a year from now at lease end. It's a very tough call as there are trade-offs which ever way you go. From what I've read here and in reviews, the V8 is definately more powerful, though the V6 is powerful enough; the V6 supposedly handles a bit better as there is less weight over the front wheels, the mileage is better and so on and so on. Cost-wise, the V8 is more but not that much more....so that shouldn't be a show stopper if you really love it. Same with the mpg. As Crupp so rightly points out, the suspension is whatever you think it is....so the only way to decide is drive 'em both and see what makes you "feel good".

PS Be sure to let us know.

The V8 is worth every cent to me. I've averaged about 21 MPG over 8K miles of mixed driving. Having the extra torque available is addicting. Either way you go you will love you new Genesis - Enjoy!

I have an 09 V8 with the teck pkg. The extra power is well worth the money. The car will get up and Go when you need it. Although it only gets 17-18 mpg(mostly in town) the v6 does't do a whole lot better.

I have a V8 and love to know that my car is faster than most on the highway.

Really, that is my reasoning behind getting the Genesis V8.

All the other stuff that comes with the V8 is just a bonus.

I have a 2010 V8 and I had a chance to drive a 2010 V6 as a loaner for a day.

The power of V8 is absolutely beautiful but the V6 is powerful enough.

However, I find V8 is a much quiter car.

Hyundai has improved the suspension for 2010.

I have a V6 and find it more than powerful enough for one or two adults. Aisin transmission on the V6 is also very nice (Aisin is 50% owned by Toyota and their transmissions are used in many cars including some Lexus).

The V8 transmission is by ZF (used in BMW's and other German cars).

It really depends on what you value. Are you the type of person that has to have the top of the line everything? Or do you go for middle of the road stuff, find it to be adequate and are happy to save the money for something more important like piano lessons for your daughter.
I would say for the vast majority of people the V6 is plenty powerful. There is the small segment that either for style, bragging rights, or what ever will opt for the V8. You have to ask yourself what you plan on doing with the car, what type of driver you are and what do you value.
Either way you can't go wrong. Both are great cars. Compared to what you listed:
Lexus E350 - Not in same league, due to drivetrain set up, next.
GS350 - Expensive, tight back seat
Infiniti M - Model update pending, which is either good if you are trying to save money, but bad if you want the newest of something
Mercedes E 350 - Rip off, heavy, no balls. Nice interior though.

Based on feedback from owners, CONSUMER REPORTS rates the reliability of the V-8 as AVERAGE and the V-6 as ABOVE AVERAGE.

I have a V6 and never feel the need for more power. It truly is a great engine (responsive, smooth, refined, great hwy mpg).

With that said, I was in the market when only the V6 was available. If I had it to do over again I'd probably go with the V8. It's overkill for my needs, but the slight difference in cost is probably worth it once you take into account the other small niceties that come only with the V8. Plus, the V8 just got a few more changes for 2010 aimed at improving performance and refinement (it now has 385 hp).

Get the V8 if you can afford it. There really is nothing wrong with the V6 at all, but if you get the V8 you probably won't ever second guess your purchase like you *might* with the V6.

And as mentioned in another post, the V8 engine has made the Ward's Automotive Top 10 (the only V8 in the top 10). Another scale tipper in my opinion.

I agree with ya Crupp:) The fuel economy difference V6 vs V8 is minuscule. I respect the V8 for its performance and fuel economy - heavier engine and car, and a punch of more power. Very impressive.

The V6 is great also, and is what I was going to buy......until I broke the numbers down and saw that at the time of my purchase I only paid around $1,600 more for the V8 tech vs V6 Tech, so I got more goodies then available in the V6 for not much more money.

Also, I use all 375HP frequently. That's why I bought it.

.....and my oil level isn't inaccurate:D

Well, I test drove both the 6 and the 8. I found the 6 quite powerful enough for my needs. The 6 already does the 0 to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds, doesn't it? Why on earth would I want even more powerful? I would rather spend the extra money on something else or even (gasp) save it!

Why on earth would I want even more powerful?

The same reason people buy the ZR1 or Z06 corvette, or a Saleen Mustang. To accellerate faster and have more power and more performance features including upgraded brakes in the V8 Genesis etc.

If performance isn't important to you, a V6 would suit you just fine.

How about, "If extreme performance isn't important to you, the Genesis V6 would suit you just fine."

The Genesis 3.8 V6 is a relatively fast car, and is not just "a" V6.

Why on earth would I want even more powerful?

The reason most guys do: Mid-life crisis or compensating for other shortcomings (or both.) :D

Seriously though - I preferred the V8 - but not because of the performance itself (to be honest, I didn't notice a whopping difference between the two in this regard.) I found the V8 to ride a bit smoother and brake better. Whether it's worth the extra cost, only you can decide that. I don't think so personally.

It is fast. I have had a number of occasions to have to accerate hard while entering a freeway. The V6 is very impressive.
