  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

V6 vs V8

So what happens when you get the best of both worlds with AWD V8, heated steering wheel and seats. :D

You are correct however. If I had only the choice of getting AWD in the V6, I would have gone with the AWD. Just try taking on a RWD V8 at the stoplight on a rainy day. No competition as the V8 will still be spinning his tires and hopping in and out of nanny mode when you are 1/2 a mile down the road.

You Canadians do get the best of both worlds - V8 and AWD... and LED DRL's.

Not to rub it in but you forgot the suede headliner. ;)

You really need to go out and get yourself a bicycle if you are so concerned with the expense of putting gas the car.

Agreed - it's not like the 3.8 provides stellar fuel economy either. The proposed twin turbo 3.3 would be a nice solution - good fuel economy when not pushed and great performance when desired. We're spoiled by low fuel prices at present:

Regular- $179.9 / gallon at Costco (and Costco is Top Tier gasoline too)
Premium - $227.9 /gallon at Costco

However, I'm sure they'll be manipulated higher again in the near future!

Have not seen it - so don't know what I'm missing. But then you don't get the power rear sunshade either ;)

There is a substantial difference between the 3.8 RWD and 5.0 AWD. I don't have the numbers handy (5.0 AWD is not available in USA), but its a large difference.

Compared to a Prius, maybe. But 28-29mpg at 70+ mph Interstate with a car this comfortable is pretty good in my book.

they are both great engines in a gorgeous looking hunky large sedan.

the 5.0 is just pure indulgence, anti tree hugger, who cares if planet earth croaks type of car

btw the new prius is pretty bad looking.

I hope hyundai comes up with a prius killer asap.

Agreed - highway mpg is not a complaint. However, around town mixed driving is not too good - I rarely break 20 mpg (more like 18-19ish).

I think the 5.0 RWD gets reasonably good fuel mileage. My comments above were with the 5.0 AWD (not available in USA).

Here are the EPA numbers for 2015 Genesis in the USA:

3.8 RWD
  • 18 MPG - city
  • 22 MPG - combined
  • 29 MPG - highway

3.8 AWD
  • 16 MPG - city
  • 19 MPG - combined
  • 25 MPG - highway

5.0 RWD
  • 15 MPG - city
  • 18 MPG - combined
  • 23 MPG - highway

5.0 AWD (not available in USA, so numbers are extrapolated from above. Actual numbers may vary slightly.)
  • 13 MPG - city
  • 15 MPG - combined
  • 19 MPG - highway

But I did have it in my 4.6 and my Rspec so I do know what it is. Used it once or twice because it was there and kinda cool. Not a feature I miss at all or want but I can see where it may come in handy and be useful for those in blistering climates. To be honest, I think the new side rear shades do more good for the comfort rear seat passengers. Too bad those are not electric. ;)

But at current fuel prices, not too much of a sting, especially if you can spend this kind of money on a car. Quite honestly, if fuel efficiency is high on your list, the Genesis is the wrong car to buy (V8 or V6) unless you exclusively drive on the highway!

Why I kept my Sonata - as a city car

The genesis is my country carriage

I use it all the time as the car is outside at work during the day. I leave it up all the time (side shades as well) along with a custom front shade when parked. Motorized side shades would be nice!

I am not obsessed with fuel mileage, but it some point it can be a consideration. I think the V6 RWD gets very good fuel mileage, so even if fuel mileage was high on my list, that would be a reason to buy it.

Agreed - mpg should not be totally ignored. However, with the Genesis, the big factor in mpg is how/where you'll spend the bulk of your time driving - I doubt the 3.8 RWD does very well in city driving either - a big heavy car like this takes lots of energy to get rolling.

I posted the numbers above.

My original comments were about the atrocious fuel mileage on the 5.0 AWD (not available in USA).

One very important factor - not mentioned - is the safety factor.

In my area, at least, an under powered car is a dangerous thing.

Drivers here are so erratic in matters like tailgating, rapid lane changing, and playing with their various gadgets, that sometime - the safest thing to do is put the car in warp drive and just get away from them.

For me, I want to pick and choose where I save a few bucks. With the 3.8 I can probably save 5-6K on the purchase price and save a few bucks at the pump. That doesn't mean I want to drive a Prius.....

I am averaging 21 MPG combined on my 5.0 AWD but that is 70/30 Highway/City.
