  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

V8 wheels center caps?

They came out excellent and to my surprise exactly like those sold by KAI for nearly $300 bucks or so!

That's because that's exactly the same thing KAI does to get theirs done ;)

Well as promised here are a couple of pics showing my original Hyundai V-8 center caps that I converted to Genesis V-8 caps by using the V-6 Genesis center caps. They came out excellent and to my surprise exactly like those sold by KAI for nearly $300 bucks or so! Not too shabby if I must say so myself...As I mentioned in my previous post, the two caps are identical in size and fit without any problem. It just takes some patience and a steady hand to pull it off!

Great job... if I didn't get my wheels chromed, I'd do this... maybe I'll do it anyway!

jamfunkr - How does the center caps look without the flying "H"? Would it look OK without the "H" and not installing the Wing badge, meaning leaving it plain?

In my opinion not very good. Without the "Flying H" or Genesis center cap it makes the entire cap look like a cheap piece of plastic. Sorry but there was no other way to express it!

I understand how jamfunkr did his wheels with the center cap, but I heard from a local dealer that they used heat to remove the center "H" and placed the winged emblem center cap on instead. I don't know if they just removed the center "H" piece from its base and put the winged cover (after removing it from its base too) on that base or if they removed the whole center leaving a hole in the center cap and glued the new one in that hole. Any opinions or experiences?

The easier and nicer way to do it is to just swap the two covers. Actually cutting through the V8 cover and trying to fit the 17" covers in there would be very difficult and the likelyness of it ending up looking like crap would be very high.

After thinking about it I believe that is what the dealer was telling me... use heat to take off the "H" and then take the wing emblem off of its mounting and place it in place of the "H". I am just leery of trying to pry the "H" off without damaging the outer part of the cover. Someone mentioned "bubble pack", but I think it would have to be more substantial. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks again for your time, Scott
