Vibration at Highway Speeds

Thanks for the info.
My GV60 came with the Michelins 235/55R19, 105W. (Manufactured week 40 of 22) due to high speed vibrations they were replaced with new ones (37/2023) the high speed vibrations were gone. Still felt vibrations in my steering wheel. Took the car and did the road forced balance. One wheel was completely off and the other 3 had to reinstall different weights. Much smoother but I can still feel vibrations.
Should I insist on changing to a different tire?
Are your Henkooks give you a completely smooth ride?
Great
Can you resend the info for exact tire you bought?

I was able to get a different brand of tires due to the involvement of America’s Tire/Discount Tire and their relationship with Michelin. Michelin offered them $$$ credit and they were willing to apply that credit towards any tire I wanted. There’s no guarantee that you’d get that same treatment, but it might be worth asking.

I started by completing the customer complaint/feedback form on Michelin’s website:

Michelin Tire Support & Michelin Customer Support | Michelin

These are the new tires:

Yes, the vibrations are completely gone now with the new tires.

Someone earlier said that if you get the road force balancing results and they are over the limit, Michelin will replace your tires under warranty.

Decided to bit the bullet and replace the OEM Michelins with the Hankooks despite the Michelins still having plenty of tread life remaining. Tired of the highway speed vibration, and after wasting time making several unsuccessful attempts to get the problem resolved I'm throwing in the towel. I did not even bother contacting Michelin as I assume there's little they would do for me given the mileage now on the car. One of the local tire stores is a Hankook dealer and they were able to get me the new tires in 1 day. They showed me the inside of both the old and new tires. The Hankooks have foam similar to the Michelins, although it's not exactly the same. The foam on the Michelins did not appear to have become detached, so I don't think that was the cause of the vibration. While I was hoping the new tires would be a bit more more sporty and provide more road feel, but that's not the case, and these are definitely a "grand touring" type tire with more focus on ride comfort than handling. I would say the Hankooks are a bit quieter than the Michelins, but I suspect that's entirely due to comparing brand new tires to somewhat worn used tires. Most importantly, as Yagkemp said, the highway speed vibration is totally gone, and the expressway ride is as it should have been from the beginning. I paid a bit more than $1500 (plus state sales tax) for the Hankooks including road force balancing, and I'm very satisfied thus far. My past experience with Michelin tires has been excellent, but there's something definitely amiss with these. Even the tire dealer that sold me the Hankooks mentioned that Michelin tires are generally very easy to balance. As you can see just on this forum alone the number of complaints is well beyond isolated and goes all the way back to earliest GV60 deliveries in North America. Never had Michelin tires made in Thailand before...not sure how significant that is.

Hi
Thanks for the detailed information.
I am after the second road forced balance and the vibrations are almost gone. I suspect that it’s the best I can get out of these new Michelins. I guess if I want a completely smooth ride, I need to change to the Hankooks.
I hope someone in Genesis reads these posts and maybe they’ll start using the Hankooks.

Sorry I confused you with zcd1 who was the forum member who bought the Hankooks previous to me.

I've read several reports on the Ioniq 5 boards of vibrations being caused by the acoustic foam inside the OEM tires delaminating from the tire and assumedly floating around inside the tire. Several owners said they solved the problem by simply having a tire shop entirely remove the foam. Has anyone here tried this, and did it get rid of the highway speed vibrations? TIA.

Took delivery of a new GV60 late last week and noticed right away there is a vibration at highway speeds which feels like it might be a defective tire or out of balance tire. It's certainly not severe, but it's definitely noticeable. I'm going to bring it back to the dealer who is unfortunately 1.5 hours away. Anyone else experience this, and what was the fix? TIA
Hi had the same issue when I bought the car. (GV60)
Had the dealer change the tires. Try to have them change to the Yokohamas. That solved the high speed vibrations. Had additional vibrations At low speeds which I solved by doing ‘Forced road alignment’ had to do it twice. Make the dealer do it.
Have them give you screen shots from the alignment computer screen that shows the values. That solved the vibration issues. Car drives amazingly smooth now.

Think I am having the same problem on our 2024 GV70E. Mine has the 265/45R20 Michelins.

I noticed the issue the first time when I took the car out mid-morning and immediately was getting on the interstate, so tires were cold. At about 70 mph, definitely felt the vibration coming through the seat. Another day with the tires a bit warmer on the interstate, I could feel a vibration coming through the steering wheel. I have read about the "flat spotting" issue and there does not seem a clear consensus on whether or not it resolves itself. Today I had been driving for about 30 minutes and decided to hit the interstate since the tires should have been adequately warmed up. Still felt some vibration coming through the seat but it was definitely less severe than in other cases.

Taking the car in to check out another issue I am having with the scheduled charging override button not working. I am going to have them also check out the vibration issue and see where I get. Fingers crossed.

Update: Car was returned to us Friday. Recall work complete but highway vibration still present. Dealer blames out of round tires and won’t address further.

After conferring with my “Discount Tire executive” friend, started a claim with Michelin. We’ll see where that ends up.
Zcd1, where you able to pursue that warranty claim route through Discount Tire because you personally knew someone there? Just was curious since I don't think I have seen anyone else that has had success with getting replacements with tires from another brand (seems like someone got Yokohamas above from dealer as the exception).

Also was curious as to how you would describe the intensity of the vibrations. I know you said that they varied in intensity and never completely went away, but what were they like when they were bad?

Answered in post number 162 above: Vibration at Highway Speeds

The vibrations were pretty bad just prior to replacement. Annoyingly obvious on the freeway, but also still felt in normal around-town driving.

It varies a little in intensity but never disappears completely.

Same here. My dealer told me today that it's "mostly gone" and that all GV60's have the same characteristic. He claims they drove 3 new ones and they all exhibited the same behavior. Between this and the home charging issues....sheeesh.

I know!
Just this morning, the vibration was worse than it's been in a long time. Same stretch of road I drive daily, tire pressure perfect, not raining, temp in low 70's... so no obvious reason.
And I changed out all 4 wheels and tires over a year ago.
Strange.

Yikes that it still has the vibration even after changing out wheels and tires. I was really hoping it would go away once the tires were swapped out. Mine is still at the dealer. They declined to perform a road force balance, stating it would not make a difference on large wheels. While I have zero idea if that's accurate, that is their position. This is extremely disappointing for an otherwise excellent car. I plan on taking it to Discount Tire for a road force balance once I have it back in order to see and have the data.

Good luck. Don't get me wrong. For the most part, it's improved... which is why yesterday's vibration was so noticeable, and odd.
I had a pothole kill the two right tires and wheels, so I changed out the size to 19' (from 20"), and went with some really great Pirelli's. 90+% of the time I have not noticed the vibration. So hopefully what you get done will improve things.
And I agree, otherwise an amazing ride.

which Pirellis?

Scorpion AS Plus 3
235/55 R19
Big difference in vertical size of tire. I would expect slightly better/softer driving in normal conditions and slightly worse driving in the twisties. Has that been your experience?
