  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ward's gives glimpse of New Genesis release...

As far as dealer experience, I would prefer to have much less of it than I have had with the BMW. With the Genesis handily outselling all Audi, Infiniti and Acura models and only being beaten by the BMW 3, Lexus ES, MB C class and Cadillac CTS, all long time and established in the market, the Genesis is gaining credibility in the market. The salon experience at the dealer costs money and is not free. I personally would prefer to spend less time at the dealer and not have to pay for the salon and see the savings in the price of the car. The concept of the Equus, where you would never need to go to the dealer for anything beats all rest for convenience.

I agree that the full salon experience comes at a cost that I'd willingly forego to save money on the car. But judging by the varied responses about service quality in several threads here, it seems that Hyundai does have a way to go, at least at some dealers. I don't think that it's unreasonable to expect a clean, nicely-appointed facility, techs who know the Genesis well and are up on the latest TSBs, and a loaner car or a shuttle for service.

During the video portion they did mention that the 5.0 model had an 8 speed automatic tranny.

Go to 15:00 min to here talk about Genesis and 5.0 engine, Genesis, Equus and 8 speed.

I'm obviously new to the forum ! But still have to say, great find.
I've been covering the genesis like everyone here probably since it's commercial launch.

And well, by my username, I was converted, but due to exterior design changes and lack of dimension enhancements for the genesis to get "beefed" up to that of the Equus ( twin of the Lincoln MKS ... eww ) really makes me angry.

Beautiful looking car, only needs new head lamps and tail lamps to complete it's look, and now with this new 5.0 V8, they have a stronger foundation to really and truly call themselves a "Sports" Sedan Manufacturer.

The Genesis has much MUCH more potential as a Flagship than the Equus.
I'm going to display a thread of my Genesis Design soon here in hopes to solidify it as the 2012 Genesis Model. And I think a lot of you here will really like what I suggest and changes which really aren't changes at all.

Just facets of detail from the Genesis from 08 through 2010 that most people really wanted from the Genesis but didn't get or expect to get until 2012, but unfortunately with an ugly outer shell, I aim to stop that.

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder

So today is 12/29/2010. Any news of the Genesis Sedan released in Korea? Any changes to it? I plan to go to the dealership soon and this will help me decide if I should wait till the end 1st quarter of 2011, but I don't know if I can wait till the summer. Plus its the end of the year, which means best time to buy a car. Dealerships are opened on new years eve and new years day right?

I'm also waiting to see when the release date is on the 2012 model... I'm not in a big rush but I would easily wait if it's only a few months. I haven't found much information released from Hyundai about it yet though.

Dealer told me today (made the call to headquarters while I was there) that the 5.0 goes into production in March, which means the '12 will be on sale July at earliest. He also confirmed the mating with an 8 speed tranny, but no AWD until 2013 at earliest.
Not relevant but important to me:
He suggested I purchase my '09 and wait for the '12 since the price is about 5K less than it's worth. I appreciate honest dealers, especially when he explained how his price on the '12 would beat Circle pricing.

The AWD is scheduled for 2013 along with the 'next generation' body change.
Hyundai already has AWD in other vehicles so putting it in the Genesis should be no big deal. It is anyones guess as to whether the 2012 will offer AWD.
I believe it will because weathering two price increases in a row will be a challenge.

The inability to make a marketing decision like that only comes from selling vehicles without "Options" or "Packages" like most Premium Brands do.

The genesis "Trim" really limits the ability to show potential customers how different variants of the Vehicle can really snatch the attention of current BMW, MB, or even Audi owners.

3.6 Tech Trim ? 4.6 Tech Trim ? C'mon, ESC isn't enough for safe driving.
I don't trust it one bit and to me, actually is more of a limitation than anything else.

If AWD is put into the Genesis at any one point, it's going to completely make or brake the car.

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder

That's a cop-out excuse .... ;)

Really, it wasn't the "impressive for a hyundai only" Tau Engine that won it north american car of the year, it was it's interior and exterior design that looked like nothing else, but at the same time had the seriousness look of other cars out there.

Front end, completely Original Front Grille, nothing like it, though many claim it resembles that of Mercedes.

Rear end, not the best I've seen, but it could be ugly like damn near everything else out there, comprising over 90% of the automotive industry. So they say it looks a little like a BMW rear end.

Profile, Side View, looks like Lexus .... that's were they went wrong.

Though these "cosmetic" changes are a mistake that they're making to the exterior of the 2012 Genesis, they now have a motor with a transmission that can be taken seriously without any help from turbos or supers. Especially while it maintains the best MPG Fuel Economy out of any other competing V8.

I would be willing to bet a very large some of money, that the reason that vehicle won 09's car of the year in north america, was because of it's aesthetic design, and not the motor.

When looking at the motor, the best people thought was, "wow that's impressive for a hyundai".
Exactly what I thought, but knowing BMWs and other german manufacturers like I do, it's no where near enough, that's where it's similar but at the same time "unlike anything else" exterior and interior design really helped people stare at it just a tad bit longer than usual :D

It's frightening to know that something that currently looks good, is getting a major overhaul of a change, "don't fix what isn't broken" is almost impossible for anyone selling a product to abide by.

Great Idea, how about a kid that drops off your loaner and takes your car back to a third rate, inexpensive dealer to be worked on!!

Personally I think Hyundai will do something with the suspension in the 2012 model as well.

If the 2012 Genesis & Equus aren't twins, there's going to be a problem.

Everything the Equus has for performance enhancements like it's Slew of CDC augmenting ESC, EBD, ABS, VSM Entirely, the large amount of weight that the genesis doesn't have in comparison to the equus would make for a better flagship in performance.

Come january 3rd, when all the hyundai employees return to their work place, I will be knocking with a fury.
