If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone, looking very closely at a G70 Elite and while I'm still looking at a few more this weekend I have been trying to sorting out warranty conversations with my local Genesis rep. I live on Vancouver Island and there isn't a dealer or team here. I can get the car delivered and they came over for a test drive which was nice but my rep is being non committal about servicing under warranty. Basically I've come to the conclusion that that valet portion of the service is unavailable, ferry costs $ and time, unless I'm over in the Vancouver area for work be it for regular service or warranty and that's cool. What she won't/can't seem to clarify is if I can take the car in to one of the 4 Hyundai dealers on the island and get warranty work done like a bad sensor or whatever.

I had assumed they would do that to extend the capabilities of the fledgling network otherwise who would want one of these cars if it meant not being able to take it through the prairies or on a nice trip to Tofino without it being towed back to the mainland or whatever. I seem to recall Alex on Autos saying in the US at least the plan was to use the Hyundai dealers to backfill but what have you found or been told? My rep has reached out to her overlords and I'm sure I'll hear back but figured I'd check and see what the early adopters have seen.

In the US there is no requirement to go to the selling dealership for service.

I bought at an official Genesis selling dealership, but my first covered oil change and one other warranty service were done at my local Hyundai which doesn’t t stock or sell any Genesis models S they are too small. The purchasing dealership is 40 miles away by my office and the local Hyundai is 1/2 mile from my house and it was my day off.

I had no issue with the local guys.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but I think for 2019 models (which your G70 will be) they must be serviced by Genesis dealerships that are or wil be sell 2019 models.

That would suck, even Acura and Lexus warranties are honored at Honda and Toyota dealerships.

Long term maintenance is my biggest concern right now for the car since the dealership network in the US hasn't been finalized it seems.

Yeah if it's only by Genesis dealerships then it's a no sale, that's crazy. Canada and let alone a lot of the US is way too big and sparsely populated in spots to have to rely on a Genesis dealer. Its not like Vancouver Island is this mystical land (OK it is pretty fantastic) but it's not Narnia. If that is the requirement then I'd hate to be a Genesis owner from say Calgary/Edmonton out for a road trip anywhere outside of the Highway 2 corridor or the lower mainland.

We'll wait to see what they say and I'll share what I get, that was my last real question aside from I might want to check if my golf club bag will fit, just in case. ;-) I am in Edmonton for work actually, I might be able to swing into their boutique by the airport on my way out of town tomorrow, I'll ask them there as well.

this is a good question. my understanding is that the issue isn't if a regular Hyundai dealership will be compensated by Genesis. they will. the trick is that each 'authorized' Genesis service dealership has 'Genesis certified' technicians on staff. presumably there has been some specialized training for Hyundai techs to become Genesis certified. for the warranty work to be covered, it must be done or supervised by one of these Genesis certified techs.

i'd have to imagine that in short order Hyundai and Genesis will sort this issue out, and that each region, i.e. Vancouver Island, will have a reasonable option for coverage. obviously taking a 2hr ferry and then driving to Richmond for the appointment, and returning back, is a deal breaker.

hopefully PD705 or one of the other GXM's on this forum can chime in.

OP - have you reached out to Genesis Canada corporate? i'd have to believe someone in their braintrust would be able to provide guidance.

I haven't directly reached out yet, if anyone has some contacts to share that'd be cool, otherwise my rep is checking into that and I'll ask likely today at the YEG boutique about that scenario.

That is what a few articles said that I read. The existing Hyundai dealers that were not going to be Genesis dealers were against it of course since they would lose revenue. Have not seen anything that it changed.

As far as the original poster, you will need to check with your dealer or Genesis since Canada probably has different rules.

Honestly Mr. Incredible, would you want a Hyundai Technician working on a Genesis that he has never worked on before? Hyundai doesn't share any drivetrains or engines with Genesis.

I think I would be more apt to go a different route.

well neither do Lexus and Toyota, but I think any certified ASE tech can change oil and do general maintenance without much of an issue all of the models service manuals are available to them online. For major warranty issues I agree, go to the brand.

Depends. The Hyundai dealers have been working on them all along. I'd not worry for simple service such as oil changes, brakes, etc. Getting into technology, especially new stuff is another matter. I'd want someone with proper training.

Speaking of this...I can confirm. I actually made a phone call to Corporate today...as I might be in a situation like this.

Genesis cars 2019+ can ONLY be serviced by a Genesis dealer. No if's and's or but's.

The Concierge Service is good for a 50 mile radius. After that...they will still do it...but it will take a lot longer. If you are within the radius...you have like a 2 day lead time. Otherwise...it could be 1.5 to 2 weeks. That is a deal breaker for me.

But...I was ASSURED that the Richmond, VA market will have Genesis presence...it just may take another month. So I am good to go.

They are doing it now and for the last 6 years.

Chatted with a lovely lady at the Edmonton boutique just now and she was really nice, come see them here if you get a chance in the area. She confirmed the same beefer and did say she knew there were 23 dealers originally associated with Genesis in Canada and any of those should have a genesis tech. That said the question is are any of those still on Vancouver Island and moreover if they are allowed to help in a warranty spot.

If Beefer's feedback or must be a Genesis dealership is the case then they better hurry their ass up and get them going because like I said before I would get really concerned driving a Genesis outside of the urban cores in Canada and the US where they aren't set up yet. Vancouver Island isn't a small place either, it's 6 hours north to south of driving time, I'm sure we could find spots in the US where there are urban gaps between Genesis dealership of that distance or longer and that would concern me.

If that stands and there isn't a confirmation of some Island presence in the nearish future this will slide down the list for me for sure. Going to call corp next and see what they say on that and go from there.

Keep in mind, there are still Genesis dealers that are attached to Hyundai dealerships. Larry H. Miller is Hyundai/Genesis in NM and they are the only one. So you will still be dealing with Hyundai/ Genesis side by side on the same lot in some states. They will eventually be separate, when the new Genesis facilities are built but that's not in the near future here in NM.

How they do this is; up to the franchised dealer entirely at this point. Also keep in mind, Genesis doesn't provide any funding for the franchise to build the new facilities. This is totally financed and directed by the owner franchise. Genesis may or may not have a basic architectural design package for dealers to follow but even this isn't unknown at this point.

So are you saying that within the 50 miles radius they will pick up, drop off a loaner and return with two days lead or so and outside the 50 miles they will still do it but it may take a few weeks to set up? That would be good for those of us who will be outside that radius. I had read somewhere that outside 60 miles they will not do it at all. Maybe that changed, or never was true, given the dealer situation.

Correct...so they are willing to compromise while all this shakes out.

To add...I would not suggest buying a Genesis if you are over 100 miles out of even anticipated dealers. Could get ugly.
