  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Warranty work out of 'Dealership' area

The forum was set up as a hobby by an enthusiast. He has a real job and other life aside from here. There are no full time moderators. Most people behave without a nanny.

Sal has also paid for the servers and software and relies mostly on donations from members to pay for it all. Would be nice if some members would pay a few bucks for the value received.

Yeah that is all fantastic but there should be either some community leads to help moderate or at minimum there should be a way to report a post. I wasn't able to find anything on that. Those kinds of things can help bring a little civility to the forum. Donations aside toxic behaviour can destroy a forum faster than anything else.

Look at the bottom right corner of this box.
See where it has a little bell and says "Report"?

Hi Ed, no I don't actually see anything like that, I had a good look last night as well. Maybe you have to be over a certain number of posts for it to show up? 🤷‍♂️

Maybe that's what it is, because I've had the report button for a long time. I think if they're reported, he comes in and does something about it. A couple of weeks ago things kinda derailed and he stepped in.

That would suck, even Acura and Lexus warranties are honored at Honda and Toyota dealerships.

Weird. Nissan wouldn't do warranty service on my G35. That was the only negative about having a car that doesn't have a dealership within 350 miles.

Yeah the "funny" scenario here is the dealership is actually well under 50 miles away, it just has 2/3rds of that distance as the Pacific Ocean. It's a pain as warranty needs do come up, most on my last few cars have been situations where one could wait, for how long becomes the question.

Thinking on it overnight it still chaffes and makes me wonder what Genesis is thinking not providing even the most fundamental cross Canada coverage.

Wait until you see what the coverage is like in the US. Even though they increased the number of dealers from their original plan, there will be quite a few areas with no local dealers at all. The five nearest ones to me have decided not to go with Genesis so the closest will be 1.5 hours away.

I can imagine. I'm not sure they can lean on brand cache like a Ferrari or other brand where a dealership nearby is a complete rarity. Hyundai must have the franchise expansion costs incredibly high.

I'm not sure if the initial cost is the issue or if it is the ongoing requirements that Genesis wants such as the experience, service, showrooms, etc. Under the old model I'm not sure many of the Hyundai dealers made much money off of Genesis. Given that, I would imagine they are unsure as to whether there will be a ROI for signing a new franchise agreement with Genesis. They say almost half of the existing Hyundai dealers have opted to be Genesis dealers but all has not been finalized yet of course. I know Genesis Corp would like to get that number quite a bit lower as it was mentioned that there may not be enough profitability for dealers with that many dealers in total.

I am totally speculating but unless they have a Genesis dealership around, warranty work will have to be done at a Hyundai dealer. Some individuals may not like that because it reminds them of "Hyundai" ownership. The Big 3 Germans have a great customer service platform and, in Rapid City at least, the customer service is not up to par at Hyundai. The individuals are fine but the lack of service techs is astounding to me. There is only one person qualified to work on Genesis's. One. He collapsed a lung so he is out. I have no idea when I'll get my backup camera fixed because of that. The closest Hyundai dealership is 350 miles away...

Moral of the story, I feel your pain.

^ in CAD we do not have stand alone Genesis dealers. all service work is indeed done at a Hyundai dealership by special Genesis-authorized techs. or at least supervising Genesis techs. i'm sure the regular Hyundai techs can and do execute routine tasks such as oil changes, but perhaps with a Genesis tech on stand by if needed. for warranty work or more specialized services i'd bet the Genesis tech must perform the work.

it's the same in the US, there are no dedicated Genesis dealerships, there are Hyundai Dealerships that are authorized to sell and service Genesis models.

That is sort of changing for 2019 and on since they are requiring separate franchising agreements. While they may be co-located, you won't be able to take the car to a Hyundai only dealership. Genesis is hoping for standalone but so far none have appeared and all looks to be a Genesis franchise within the Hyundai building. They are no longer requiring a separate building though so it would appear to the consumer as you described.

As part of our car shopping we were in looking at a Santa Fe to replace the Santa Fe, for diligence. Asked the sales manager and he was confident that there wouldn't be a Genesis dealership in Victoria because of the required space changes they mandated, they'd need to build a whole new dealership. I think personally the Hyundai dealer is not great in Victoria so they probably should look to get into a new space on par with everyone else but hey, not my biz.

That said he did mention they had a bunch of Genesis interested customers who came in and were sent that way, maybe if there is enough regionally there will be 'plan b'. He's like we can service them and when I asked about ordering parts and warranty he's like yeah we can do that, I have a red seal tech with genesis certification. Whether he/they have been informed of the new 2019 plan is another matter.

Sorry, I was referring to the US situation not in how it is in Canada. I thought you were told though that you can not go to a Hyundai dealership?

Yeah that's what the party line is, I don't know if anyone else has been told that. I haven't also received word from corp, just through a couple agents so it's probably the plan. Neither seemed enthused by the concept. Nothing like knee capping yourself before a race. ;-)

Anyone have a # to call Genesis Canada by any chance? I missed it on their website when I looked?
