  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I own a 2011 4.6 V8 and love, but Hertz recently gave me a 2013 V6 for my monthly run from LAX to Phoenix. Engine was very responsive with plenty of power. The cruise control was set for 80 on I-10 with lots of reserve for passing. Fuel mileage was an honest 32 for the trip. Car felt more maneuverable and lighter, which is to be expected I guess. I'm thinking of the V6 for my next buy - is there anything I can't get as an option on the V6 vice the V8?

The V8 is now only available on the R-Spec. The R-Spec has a different suspension (obviously sportier), and slightly different interior trim, different wheels and tires. Gear ratios may be a little different (the V6 and V8 now use the same transmission, unlike 2009-2011). Not much else is different if you get Technology Package on the V6.

If you're buying new then you'll have no choice unless you go R-Spec. No more intermediate level V8. I love my V6. I'm getting over 30 on all highway trips so far per the trip computer, which may be a bit overly optimistic.

Beat me to it. What he said.

That's why I bought the V6 tech. :)

My V6 has exceeded ALL my original expectations. It performs quietly, smoothly, and economically. Just yesterday the wife and I drove 160 miles; the first half into a slight headwind and the return half with a slight tailwind. Holding 70 mph, my readout registered just under 36 mpg's which in the real world would be around 33.5. I can do this consistently if I try. I generally like to burn name brand fuel, usually Shell, and have a bad habit of giving the car a good blowout, up to around 120, about once per month. Yeah, I know I'm a little old to be doing that but I have a good place to open it up. I bought this car new back in February and so far have 25,000 miles on the clock. I don't know if anyone else can verify this but the V6 just seems to be getting stronger as the miles increase. I've purchased lots of cars in my years and with the exception of two Lincoln Continentals, I've never bought the same make twice, but I'm thinking the Genny just may buck that trend. BTW, my second car is a Vette and I haven't driven it even one time since, well, February.

A neighbor of mine bought a Corvette shortly after I bought my Genesis. It wasn't long before he was heading into major back surgery. ,-)

My Genesis gives me most of the thrills that I had with my earlier sporty cars, including a BMW 2002 and two Datsun 280 Z cars. What it doesn't give me, I don't really want, or need, anymore. The Genesis is a great combination of all the best features a car should have.

My V6 Genesis shares the stable with a 2004 Corvette Z06. They are Jekyll and Mr Hyde and compliment each other nicely depending on what the day requires ;)

I too, have been blown away by the engine in this car. It is a perfect fit for a luxury car. Coupled with the 8-speed, it has very smooth and linear acceleration and doesn't constantly snap my neck like the Z06 does. It also has just enough of an exhaust note to let you know when you are stepping on the gas without being obnoxious.

In answer to the question, no. When I went shopping, I drove a new R-Spec thinking the V-6 wouldn't be enough. The R-Spec was nice, but I didn't care for the stiff ride, and don't need another fast car, especially for a commuter. I did not consider the V-6 having driven an earlier CPO car with "only" 290 HP and the six speed, but the sales guy kept telling me the new ones were a lot different. To me it was, and I have no regrets.

I have been very pleased and also get 30+ mpg on the highway. This is my second V-6, the 2012 beats my previous 2009.

Occasionally wish I had a V-8...mostly for ego reasons. Then that passes and I remember why I love this car. It performs at an Above Average level or higher in every category that's important to me. The V8 scores a bit higher in one of the 5-6 categories that I value the most, but that's it.

At $27k (7 mos and 3k used), there were no R-specs even close to that price and the nearest 4.6 with similar miles/condition was $4k more....it was a no brainer for me. Which is good as my wife often tells me she thinks I was born without a brain...is that bad?

In my mind, the R-spec/4.6/5.0 are great cars that are perhaps even a little better, but for a price.
